Unexpected Surprise

By Floyd "Flip Matrix" Wilcox

from Valencia, CA

Comments about Behringer T1953 Tube Ultragain:

I stumbled across one of these and decided to pick it up just to see what it would sound like. I also replaced the tubes with EI 12AX7 Elite Gold tubes after determining that the stock tubes sucked. I 1st auditioned it as a Mic Pre and still didn't think it was quite good enough to perform that task. I then thought to myself how would this thing perform if I ran my "Out The Box" mixes through it. The result blew me away. It literally brought depth and warmed to my mixes and masters. It can't really handle extremed gain but if you just run an all digital mix through it the final result is amazing. I recommend this piece for anyone with a modest budget looking to bring that analog feel to an all digital mix. It truly works!

Comments about Behringer T1953 Tube Ultragain:

Sweet mic pre under $200 I'm using it with a baby bottle, and other times with a pair of AKG C1000's overhead. Wow ! It defy's the whole 'you get what you pay for' thing...

Time For New Tubes ???

By AboutSound

from Washington D.C. area

Comments about Behringer T1953 Tube Ultragain:

I have used this pre-amp for 3+years now without any problems. This was my first Behringer purchase which has changed my once negative attitude towards Behringer. I use it with various condenser microphones and have NO hiss problems, but do find the warmth function a little lacking. Perhaps new tubes as mentioned above will help. I also use it as a part of my guitar pre-amp chain, that includes a GAINIAC and an ADDVERB III, which sounds great clean or dirty.

A introductory tube preamp, but it lacks warmth

By Fuzzball

from Ida, MI

Comments about Behringer T1953 Tube Ultragain:

A mic preamp that will fit your needs on a low budget. To be honest this preamp will not provide you with professional sounding tracks, but it will help you out if you don?t already have a nice mic preamp. The preamp does a good job of amplifying the signal but that is about it. The unit does not seem to provide any additional warmth. If you need a good guitar preamp this may be the item you need, but for vocals I would consider other alternatives.
