Overview

The Behringer T1952 Tube Composer adds modern tube technology to the industry standard for compression, the acclaimed Composer Pro. Like its solid-state counterpart, the Tube Composer offers various dynamic processing functions: fully automatic as well as manual compression, expander/gate, and program limiting. It combines the advantages of hard-knee and soft-knee compression in a single processing function. The result is entirely natural and transparent, even in the case of extreme compression ratios. It also incorporates a warmth control, automatic or manually controllable attack and release times, switchable high-pass filter and monitor function for side chain, a peak-limiting circuit that combines clipper and program limiter, expander/gate circuit for gentle disturbance suppression, and displays for input and output levels and gain reduction.

Features
  • Warmth control and 12AX7 tubes for dialable tube enhancement
  • Interactive Knee Adaptation combines soft-knee and hard-knee characteristics
  • Switchable high-pass filter
  • Compression switchable between interactive-knee and hard-knee operation
  • IGC (Interactive Gain Control) circuitry provides clipper and program limiter
  • IRC (Interactive Ratio Control) expander/gate for gentle disturbance suppression
  • Precise displays for input and output level and gain reduction
  • Stereo link function
  • Servo-balanced inputs and outputs with 1/4" TRS and gold-plated XLR connectors
  • Relay-control hard bypass switch with auto bypass function in case of power failure

The TUBE COMPOSER is worth twice the price. Behringer has made a really great product here. This thing can do so much and make you sound really good. I hesitated getting it for a long time. This price is hard to believe. Of course, they have better pieces out there, but at 5 times this price! But in a home studio situation, you really can't live without it. I will be buying a second unit today. This thing works wonders for vocals, bass, kick drums, snare drums... and so far, anything I have thrown at it.(Even the overall mix strictly for limiting purposes) Don't wait until they are gone. Behringer is doing some weird things right now, and they might not be here tomorrow. GO FOR IT.

For the price you get alot. It's not the greatest quality of compression but it does exactly what it claims. I'm sure if you spent some time you would find some settings that worked for you in certain situations. I actually have used it to fatten up bass guitar a bit. For very subtle things it will work fine. If your going after Extreamly professional compression, get an extreamly professional compressor.

it depends

Comments about Behringer T1952 Tube Composer:

This is really not a bad piece of gear, especially for the price. If your a beginner learning the basics of mixing and honing your skills I can't think of a better compressor to start with. It's got a gate and expander, limiter, which I'm not to pleased with, and compression with attack and release settings, and soft knee option. I'm to the point where I need a better compressor, And plan to get the TL Audio 5051.

Mixed Feellings

Comments about Behringer T1952 Tube Composer:

I bought this Tube Composer around two years ago, It's not a bad piece of equipment. For the money it does a lot but I would recomend spending a couple extra dollars and getting something a little nicer. Don't expect the tube composer to last more than two years.

Behringer T1952 Tube Composer

By Tha Spectre

Comments about Behringer T1952 Tube Composer:

I love this inexpensive composer. I use it in my live sound rig for my wireless microphones (2 VHF Shures and 2 UHF AKG). It has really enabled to keep the "sound" of the mics the same. I love the Warmth of the Tubes. I cannot tell you about any other application, only for what I do it works for me and let me spend my money elsewhere on the system.

Comments about Behringer T1952 Tube Composer:

This is the essence of cheap Behringer crap. I learned the hard way that you need to spend decent money to get a decent compressor. Don't waste your money, make your dollar count and get a drawmer or even a dbx unit.

A Compressor with added features!

By Kevin

Comments about Behringer T1952 Tube Composer:

Well..Recently i broke out the reel to reel..Needed a pre-tracking compressor, bought a couple of these and they worked out great! Well, ya'll know when recording a awesome drum track, multi-tracking, dynamics are one of the many key-valued issues addressed before beginning. They worked out fine, compared to drawmers, which i used to own, i was impressed! I've owned behringer products before, nver had luck with them, but had a short budget and needed the gear... Great compressed/tube saturation for drums. Even guitars and vocals weren't bad, but iusually use manleys pre-amps for that sort of stuff etc... all in all, not a bad price to pass up. don't see to many in this price range....

That's a good compressor

By Micahj

Comments about Behringer T1952 Tube Composer:

I bought this about 6 months ago with little to no understanding of what compression, limiting, and expanding were all about. I just figured I could plug it in, turn a couple knobs and "presto" it would clean up and tighten my sound. Well things don't work like that and I got upset that it didn't do magic and stored it away for 4 months. In those 4 months I learned as much as I could about compression, limiting, and expansion and pulled it back out to see what it could do. That's when I figured out this machine is really great. You can use each section seperately or at the same time. The expander/gate is really good it seperates drums excellently and eliminates all floor noise from any instrument you might be using. The compression is also wonderful. Excellent with snares and bass drums, gives them a nice punchy sound. I just used it recording my bass directly through the compressor into the recorder and the sound is tight and in your face. The warmth knob turned all the way up adds that little bit of distortion and harmonics that tubes are known for to any instrument. Overall, I love this machine.. it is welll worth the price. And if your wondering what the point of the long story at the beginning was about well what I'm saying is learn all you can about what compressors and expanders are all about and this machine will satisfy all your compressing and expanding needs.

A good introductory level preamp

By Fuzzball

from Ida, MI

Comments about Behringer T1952 Tube Composer:

This is a tube version of Behringers popular composer pro (which is a great unit). The T1952 provides compression, expansion, and peak limiting. When comparing it to my regular composer pro I did not really hear much of a difference. The unit is a nice unit but if you already have a composer pro this may not be much of an upgrade. If you do not already own a composer pro I would recommend this unit I think you would be satisfied with its abilities.

Comments about Behringer T1952 Tube Composer:

This product is essential for ideal analog recording studios but does not work well with digital setups, it tends to distort at hot levels.
