Nice Basic Phaser

By Todd Pennington

from Memphis, TN

Comments about Behringer PH9 Classic 90-Degree Phase Shifter Guitar Effects Pedal:

The PH9 is a knockoff of MXR's Phase 90... I've not personally played the MXR, which I understand is one of the leaders among Phasers. I don't need my Phaser to do much, so I went with the much cheaper PH9: I've been really happy with it. It functions just like the MXR - one control knob, to dial the phase up or down. In addition, there is a switch to toggle a swirl function (on the swirl, one sound is supposedly "modern" and the other "vintage.") I didn't care for the "swirl" but if you play around with it in your setup it could get interesting. The PH9 is built solid, with an all-medal case. To access the battery (if you dont use a power adapter - not included) you need to un-screw the bottom of the pedal; battery access gives you easy access to the motherboard. Easy modding, if you like that kind of thing. No noise added or tone lost when I added it to my rig. Bottom line: Good value, built solid, nice sound, no compromises with my tone.

Not So Nice Bypass

By Todd Pennington

from memphis TN

Comments about Behringer PH9 Classic 90-Degree Phase Shifter Guitar Effects Pedal:

This is an update to my prior review... i ended up pulling this off the board due to bypass issues. It seemed like the pedal was giving me an unwanted volume boost when the effect was on: after a few months of playing i realized it wasn't boosting volume when on, it was damping tone when off. The bypass on this is not great, and was enough of an issue I ended up pulling it off. If you used this with a loop pedal to bypass the effect when not in use it could be a very useful phaser, although as the only real advantage this pedal had over other phasers was its price point that kind of defeats that. I switched over to an EHX Small Stone v4 for my primary phaser, and while I like that a lot i've actually kept the PH9 around as a spare and to have a Phase 90 sound if/when I need it.
