Overview

The FBQ2496 is an incredibly fast feedback suppressor because it uses a speedy feedback detection algorithm that automatically and intelligently locates up to 20 feedback frequencies per channel. It then sets an extremely narrow notch filter to eliminate them, leaving the remainder of the signal virtually untouched.

The auto mode continuously monitors the mix, resetting programmed filters automatically, while the manual mode allows individual settings of up to 40 fully parametric filters with frequency, bandwidth, and gain adjustment. With its various modes you can master just about any live sound situation, or use the Feedback Destroyer Pro as a creative sound-shaping tool.

Features
  • Automatically and intelligently locates and destroys up to 20 frequencies per channel
  • Ultrafast feedback detection (0.2 sec) due to proprietary FFT signal analysis
  • Ultra-narrow notch-filters (up to 1/60th octave) for very effective feedback suppression, while keeping highest sonic quality

I bought this to control feedback in the small rehearsal room my friends and I use to get together and play about once a week. Out of the box, the Behringer did NOTHING to help. The english manual is kind of sketchy and the unit did not perform as the manual stated. HOWEVER - one email to Tech support and they taught me how to erase presets that come out of the factory which prevent the unit from acting like a feedback surpressor. (All parametrics were configured) From that moment on, the unit behaved just as the manual states and works BEAUTIFULLY. The manual is NOT complete, but Tech support is excellent. The only problem I had with that is that you have to wait for the reply from (Germany?) which took about 3 days in my case.

I purchased the FBQ2496 from here and I do love it! However it does not fix feedback problems-you still need to have a bet of set-up knowledge. I play in a small room for a comedy club / bar and also practice with a full band in a 14x14 room and it does help, and it does give all kinds of head room on my mixer-but it does not destroy feed back all by it self. I use it as most others in the auto mode but its really just a preset digital EQ in the auto mode, other wise you still have to set it up as a digital EQ. I am really happy with the product and do believe it helps but it is not going to destroy 100% of feed back. The back XLR conectors are also very poor in quality-mine wouldnt hold the cable in place the first time I plugged it in. Still great to have!

Comments about Behringer FBQ2496 Feedback Destroyer Pro Feedback Suppressor/Parametric EQ:

This product works perfectly. It allows us to have a relatively novice people substitute in on our sound board and not have problems with the stage monitoring system. Allows you to allocate filters manually and automatically. Found that allocating 10 single shot filters then allocating the rest to automatic sense and release works great. Move on to the next gig and tell it to relearn and your are ready to go. Really simplifies managing the sound for live productions. Pays for itself !

Didn't work for me.

Comments about Behringer FBQ2496 Feedback Destroyer Pro Feedback Suppressor/Parametric EQ:

I was told by the sales girl when I bought this unit that it would work with my Behringer Powered PA head. After receiving it the directions said not to put it between the head and the speakers, which she said I could. I never used it till after the warranty was expired. I had to use an old mixing board to make it work. When I used it my lapel mic still squealed. I couldn't tell the difference with it off or on. So I was stuck with a very expensive dust collector.

Comments about Behringer FBQ2496 Feedback Destroyer Pro Feedback Suppressor/Parametric EQ:

We have a very general-purpose system, ranging from quiet singers running just on the edge of feedback (hence the FBQ on a channel or group insert) to movies and full-on concerts.

The FBQ is nearly useless for the quiet singers that I bought it for because the levels are so low throughout the entire system that it simply can't find the feedback that's so obvious to a human ear. According to Behringer support, it's working exactly as designed and the only recourse is to increase the level going through the FBQ. I do that (cranked here, almost off there, really nervous about a singer's sudden confidence or realization of bad mic technique), and the clip lights come on about halfway up the meter. (???)

I returned one, thinking it was defective, but then the second did the same thing, which is when I called support.

If it would work at ANY level, as if it had a noise-floor-level limiter feeding its detector, then it would probably work wonderfully, but I have yet to see it apply even one filter automatically. And yes, I've been through the full manual that's only available online and double-checked myself.

So, it looks great on paper, but I would not recommend it unless preceded by a low-threshold, brick-wall limiter with make-up gain.

Nice no brainer operation. Thook it up, turn on, leave it in auto (run mode). Feedback gone. There are all kinds of controls for those who want to putter, but the easy run mode works great and sounds great. i have one unit on the mains, the other on the monitors. Nice work Behringer!

Comments about Behringer FBQ2496 Feedback Destroyer Pro Feedback Suppressor/Parametric EQ:

i have had 2 of these in our portable pa rack for several years now. we set up and play several times a month at different places so setting the sound was always an issue until we started using these. one channel is on the mains and one channel on each of the 3 monitor channels. now we dont even "ring" out the system before we start. just start playing and as the nite goes on the lights on the front will start to come on showing that it has cut a feedback frequency. it does it so fast you dont even know its working. these are so important to me i just set up another very small rack for small shows with only a power amp, mixer, and a FBQ2496. on this last one i did have a little difficulty setting it up. had to go to parametric setting then back to feedback setting before it would auto-control the feedback, but works great now. don't think these will let you turn up wide open in your bedroom, they won't, but in a club, on a loud stage they work great.

Comments about Behringer FBQ2496 Feedback Destroyer Pro Feedback Suppressor/Parametric EQ:

This item will add about 10% gain to your monitoring system before feedback occurs.

Setting it up is an extremely painful, earsplitting process which cannot be done (especially if there are any customers in the venue at the time) without invoking the wrath of management. But fortunately, if the band's stage configuration is similar in most venues, you can get away without re-setting it up every time. We've been using the same settings at all our gigs with satisfactory results.

Comments about Behringer FBQ2496 Feedback Destroyer Pro Feedback Suppressor/Parametric EQ:

Without a doubt, the most impressive piece of gear I've ever owned. I simply plugged it in, sent the mains from the mixer to it, then it's outs to the power amp, hit the learn button, feedback was GONE. Vocals were far louder than the Drums and Bass and Guitar.
It simply does, unlike most gear regardless of price, Exactly what it says it does.
Cannot recommend this enough. Right out of the box, I'm not even sure, nor do I really care, what all of the other buttins even do.

          Used for Church Sound System

Comments about Behringer FBQ2496 Feedback Destroyer Pro Feedback Suppressor/Parametric EQ:

I was worried by reading on internet before I bought. Revews said hard to operate, and some said cheaply built. I found the unit to be FABULOUS. At first did not seem to work real well until I increased gain of mixer from where signal was originating. It needs a good strong input. Found easy to use in learn mode, or manually programing parametric filters. Remembers all settings on power off from plug strip. Can separate channel one and two and reset them and edit them totally separately. Got good feedback suppression on church monitor speakers witin hours of first hooking up. Played around setting filters manually for fine tuning. Volume is significantly louder with no feedback.

Comments about Behringer FBQ2496 Feedback Destroyer Pro Feedback Suppressor/Parametric EQ:

i have been musically and electronically inclined since when i was a kid. i purchased this item FBQ2496 to use it in our place of worship (Kingdom Hall). I have been their soundtech for more than 7 years. i planned to get this one to add more miking (vocal) volume to the public speaker in front of the stage because there's no way for me to control childs noise whenever they cry. (louder than what audience can hear from the public speaker). when i got this item, i tried it for a day and it really destroys feedback. however, the following day when i tried to use it again, after switching it on. after about 2seconds...it died. no power. dead. NOT GOOD! behringer, please make a product that's really good in quality. chasis is not even sturdy. rack braces are moving. you could've made a one-piece front panel without its side rack-bracket only attached by metal screws. front panel still has rough edges (aluminum). and if you could just make ALL your equipment voltage switchable (110/240). autovolt is okay.anyway, wait for my comment on your XENYX x1204 usb mixer, 1502EQ and your composer mdx2600. the quality you're bragging is not that acceptable...just a comment. peace!

It does work for my 1000 sq. ft practice space. If I had to do it again though I would have just purchased another E.Q. for my floor monitors. The Product does not come packaged very well(loose). Also the power button goes in too far and you have to play with it to get it out. I find that with all Behringer products that while they are good ideas and are engineered in Germany, they are Implemented and packaged in China.(very cheap)
