Overview

Like its fellow EUROLIVE D Series loudspeakers, the EUROLIVE B212D PA speaker system features Behringer's special Class D amplifier technology and internal switch-mode power supply to provide a much better power-to-weight ratio than other active speakers. To put it simply, you get all the power without the backbreaking weight.

Due to the high-efficiency design, the EUROLIVE B212D cranks out 450W of the cleanest, punchiest audio you've ever heard from a compact PA speaker system. The integrated sound processor provides total system control, along with dependable protection of the LF and HF transducers, thanks to the built-in active high-pass filter, which virtually eliminate distortion—even at extreme operating levels. In addition, it features an ultralow-noise mic/line input with LEVEL control and a dedicated two-band EQ (bass/treble) for easy control.

Intelligent by design
One of the coolest things about active loudspeakers is the lack of backbreaking racks of amps, crossovers, and EQs that are often required to make passive speaker systems sound almost as good. But that comes with a trade-off—that extra weight is transferred to the audio speaker, making it difficult for a single user to heave all that mass onto the top of a speaker stand.

Behringer's EUROLIVE D Series' "Intelligent-Design" merges the best features of active loudspeakers with significantly lower weight by using switch-mode power supplies and Class D amplifier topology. Hidden deep inside the enclosure is the equivalent of an active two-way electronic crossover, graphic EQ, parametric EQ, mic preamp, limiter, and 2 Class D power amplifiers, yet the overall weight is less than a comparable loudspeaker system. These components work together seamlessly to provide optimum sound quality—and it all takes place automatically, without you having to touch a single knob.

Class D Amplifier Technology delivers high power with low weight
Instead of operating relatively continuously like Class A/B circuits, Class D amps switch on and off thousands of times per second, delivering power only when needed. In other words, the amplifier is either fully on or fully off, which significantly reduces the power losses in the output devices. This is simple in theory and complex in practice, which is why there are so many different Class D designs. Without boring you with terms like PWM Generation and Gate Drivers, let's just say that to realize the benefits of a Class D design requires compensating for a lot of potential problems that can cause audible distortion. BEHRINGER didn't invent Class D technology, but their R&D department has been working for years to perfect their own version with all the benefits of reduced weight and cool running, yet without the drawbacks. That's why they invested more than a solid year of research time eliminating pitfalls like quantizing errors and excess dead time, selecting just the right switching frequency (and other equally tech-y terms). It's also why they spent an equally long time testing individual components to ensure they will stand up to the rigors of the real world.

When combined with switching-mode power supplies that replace heavy toroid transformers, these new designs provide more dynamic punch since the higher switching frequency reloads the supply's capacitors much faster. And, because they are so much more efficient, the D Series loudspeakers run cooler and don't require huge and heavy heat sinks. The resulting speakers systems are much lighter, making them easy to transport and set up. BEHRINGER's no-compromise design means your EUROLIVE B212D active speaker system will deliver full power and incredible fidelity all night long, with no need for rest cycles.

Instant PA system
With just a single EUROLIVE B212D PA system and a microphone or MP3 player, you can set up an instant sound system. Thanks to the built-in preamp section, you just connect a dynamic mic and raise and lower the volume with the Level control. Plug in your sound source, place the speaker on a tabletop or stand, and power up. It's just that easy. And if you need more coverage, simply use the convenient LINK OUTPUT XLR connector to add more active loudspeakers.

Stereo music system
You can use two EUROLIVE B212D enclosures for stereo playback of your MP3, CD, or old-school cassette deck without any additional hardware. Just plug the appropriate stereo breakout adapter into your deck's output jack and run the cables to the 1/4" inputs on each loudspeaker. Set the Level and EQ controls the same on both enclosures, and you've got an instant party.

Marvelous monitoring
Thanks to their trapezoidal design, the D Series cabinets can be laid on their side providing the ideal angle for onstage monitor wedge applications. Hookup is simple too, requiring only a single XLR or 1/4" cable from the monitor send on your mixing console and, of course, power. Additional monitors can be chained together via the XLR LINK OUTPUT jack on the rear panel.

Custom-designed transducers
The transducers (woofers and tweeters) are the only part of a sound system you actually hear, so Behringer didn't cut any corners. They custom-design and build their transducers from scratch. Not only do they wind their own voice coils, they process the paper pulp into cones and even machine their own back-plates. This enables Behringer to control the quality and make better components, like the long-excursion LF transducers and state-of-the-art 1.35" compression drivers deployed in each EUROLIVE speaker enclosure.

Low-frequency response
The EUROLIVE D Series speakers were built with extended low-frequency handling in mind. With a tuned port, internally braced, injection-molded enclosure, each model's custom-designed LF transducer (woofer) really cranks out tight low end.

Accurate non-fatiguing midrange and treble
Even if your particular application doesn't include booming bass, you'll love the sheer accuracy of the EUROLIVE B212D system. Over a year of design went into an exponential horn/aluminum dome compression driver combination that could do justice to loud hard rock or dance music—yet could also satisfy audiophiles with its musical timbre and attention to detail. For spoken word, singing, or acoustical instruments, the D Series loudspeakers are able to articulate complex harmonic details.

Processor controlled output
Dynamic processing is one of the best ways to maximize output without sacrificing sound quality. The EUROLIVE B212D's built-in circuitry automatically adjusts program content, allowing the loudspeaker to operate at extreme levels. It accomplishes this by reducing bass output slightly as you approach the limit of the transducers. This frees up LF amp and transducer resources, so that higher overall volume can be realized. It's like having a tiny soundman inside each cabinet constantly monitoring and changing output parameters. By making subtle changes to the crossover frequency and the audio content, the system is able to crank out more sound—without the slightest hint of distortion.

Massive power-to-size ratio
Cutting-edge technology and high-fidelity speakers are not all it takes to get your message across—you need power, and lots of it. At the heart of each Behringer EUROLIVE B212D loudspeaker is two high-current amplifiers with a total output of 550 watts. They're capable of driving the speakers to their maximum with no distortion—and without speaker damage, thanks to active internal protection circuits. Put simply, they will astound you with their massive punch, smooth mids, and articulate top end.

I bought a pair of these for my son, who is trying to start up a DJ biz. Sadly, within two months, the tweeter in one speaker quit working. Don't know if it's the tweeter itself, or the cross-over circuit. I was on hold trying to get to Behringer customer service for more than an hour. Even when I got thru, it took several follow up calls and emails to get an "RMA number" so that I could get the speaker repaired under warranty. Well, that meant getting the speaker to an Behringer authorized service center at my own expense. Happily, there is on in my town, although quite a drive away. When I got there, carrying the speaker, and complained about the difficulty in getting the RMA, they laughed and said I'd actually gotten off easy. Then they said the company was notorious for not providing them with the parts they need to make the repairs. "Sometimes it takes them months," they said. They also indicated they see lots and lots of Behringer speakers and other products with defects and problems. Long story short, the speaker has been languishing for ten weeks at the repair shop, and they still haven't gotten the part. This is an oh-too-familiar example of a firm that offers a great up-front price and clearly doesn't care about building a relationship with their customers, standing behind their warranties, or even pretending to act in an ethical manner. I won't ever buy anything from them again, and invite you to consider my experience when making a purchase choice.

We used only one of these for our vocalist in a hotel ballroom with approx. 150 people attending. The sound was clear and carried throughout the entire room even when our full band was playing...kb, drums, bass, sax & guitar. If you need a good vocal speaker for a small/med sized room, buy this.

We've been using these speakers for almost a year. They don't disappoint! For small clubs/bars, these will get the job done. Lots of sound w/ no distortion. We usually run the 12"s with a subwoofer for more thump, but since we do karaoke, don't really NEED it. Great by themselves, with a sub, or as monitors for the 15" version

Comments about Behringer Eurolive B212D Active PA Speaker System:

I just picked up this speaker and put it through its paces. While it's about as good as you can expect a sub-300 dollar system to be, there are several things in the description that could use clearing up. First off, the 550 watts listed is actually the peak wattage - the highest continuous output that this speaker can produce is actually around 280 watts before it starts to break up and sound horrible. Secondly, while this can be largely fixed with some quick EQ tweaks, this is not a good speaker for clear, crisp sound as the bass is extremely boomy, which causes the signal to get slightly muddier. All in all, it's good for the price but as usual you can do better if you're willing to spend more

..first, don't expect "lows" from this speaker, you DO need a sub to get a complete sound as a DJ, etc.. Having said that, i HIGHLY recommend this speaker! - It doesn't cost a fortune and it gets the job done, and done right too.

        Extraordinarily happy with this speaker.

        By Mike

        from Akron Ohio

Comments about Behringer Eurolive B212D Active PA Speaker System:

I actually use this speaker as my guitar amp. Since I play through a Line 6 Pod XT Live amp modeler, I needed something with an absolute flat response, and be crisp and clear enough to hear the subtle differences in the digital cabinet models. I also needed power. Lots of it. I had been using a pair of Alesis M1 Active studio monitors for playing in the home studio or occasionally in a very small venue, and the response was perfect. I had the cleanest signal I could want, but studio monitors are not made for a large stage. Guitar amps were out since they color the signal, I tried a keyboard amp which was a disaster so I made up my mind to buy a powered PA speaker. When I went to Guitar Center, they let me play my rig through the various speakers on the showroom floor there. I played a JBL 15" first, which seemed pretty decent. Definitely had the power. Next I played through the Mackie Thump and it sounded as if someone sliced the high end right out of it. Then I played a Behringer B212D. The clarity of the sound as compared to the JBL and Mackie was so completely obvious from the first chord that I knew I was going to walk out of the store with that speaker. Even the salesman was surprised at the difference, especially considering that Behringer is considered 'lower end'. In any case, I've since used it at many gigs and have been absolutely thrilled with the performance. I can crank it past the level of human tolerance without a hint of feedback and there is almost zero line noise at those high volumes. I do have to turn the bass way down on the EQ as it can 'muddy up' with the bass player. But other than its perfect for what I use it for. If I had one miniscule complaint it would be that it should have a power indicator light on the front so I could tell if it was on or not as I use it on its side as a wedge.

I just purchased two of these B212D's for use in my home studio and also for playing small club/ bar venues. I am happy with the overall sound and volume however, They are lacking the thump. So, If you are looking for a clean sound for mids and highs or general DJ work, these are great. Not too big or heavy. If you want that bumping drive in the club. Definately add a subwoofer.

Comments about Behringer Eurolive B212D Active PA Speaker System:

I was looking for something to substitute having stand alone amplifiers. I play Flute, Guitar, Keyboard, and Bass. The first thing I thought about doing was buying a PA or a Keyboard amp. The sales person introduced this to me as an alternative. I tried this speaker out with a Bass, Guitar, Keyboard, and a Keyboard. It sounded OK, but was begging for an EQ/Pre-amp. Still, it was clear, flat, and loud. I decided to buy an Xenyx 1202FX to use as a mixer/preamp. I took it straight to a gig later that afternoon. I was absolutely blown away by the sound. It has adequate Bass response to use as a small Bass amp, yet have enough frequency response to use for everything else. Especially with the mixer. I used it to mic a flute, sax, and amplify an Ipod. The next day, I used it as a Bass and Keyboard amp. Not once did I have to turn the volume all the way up. As a matter of fact, I had to turn down the lows because it was a little muddy. Muddy, but not distorted! Is this the best speaker in the world...NOPE. Would I recommend this to a Reggae bass player? Nope. However, the value is worth the trade off! This was definitely better than buying a bunch of dedicated amplifiers! For something that weighs only 40lbs it is definitely a hit!

Solid Choice when you're on a budget

        By Rick

        from Lake Forest, IL

Comments about Behringer Eurolive B212D Active PA Speaker System:

I needed a simple speaker to bring to college for both DJing and just to have for playing music around the dorm. I went in to my local guitar center to check out the Mackie Thump 15" speaker, which was so-so. I talked to one of the sales associates, and he directed me towards the behringer speakers. He told me they had considerably more power, and were a lot punchier than the mackie's, at a lower price. Sounds almost too good to be true, but you lose a little bit in the process- 1- Go to the store and demo the speaker before you buy it. Behringer's tend to have some quality control issues. The first speaker the guy grabbed straight out of the box had a woofer that didn't work. Not a huge deal since it's not the one I bought, but it's an issue. 2- They're good, but they tend to hiss at higher volumes. I notice it because I am used to good quality equipment that has very low noise. It becomes minimal when you have audio playing, but expect a hiss when you have the volume at full and nothing playing. Otherwise, everything has been great with the speaker, it really sounds great, and is extremely loud. Put this on my balcony the other day and one of the neighbors had to use a megaphone to call back and complain! Great speaker, I would definitely recommend it to any beginner or anybody on a budget. If you want really good quality and have a higher budget, definitely spend the extra money and get the better speaker. Nonetheless, this is the best thing you are going to get for your money in this price range.

        Best Value

Comments about Behringer Eurolive B212D Active PA Speaker System:

These speakers are popular for a reason. They're inexpensive and good enough. Sound quality is fine, price is the best you'll find. The issue with these speakers is their durability. When it come to Berhinger (any of their products) BUY THE WARRANTY. After the first few weeks of gigging with these things they started buzzing, and after a few months one of them gave out. No big deal though. I bought a new one, and received a reimbursement check from guitar center in a few days. If it weren't for the warranty, I would have rated this product a 1 or 2. But since I can just go pick up a new speaker for $50 (the cost of the warranty) when ever anything goes wrong, it makes them a great buy. Go for better quality if you can afford it. But if you cant, definitely pick these up.... with the warranty of course

        These things thump

Comments about Behringer Eurolive B212D Active PA Speaker System:

Ive been hauling around passive speakers, amps, cords, mixer, more cords and more cords for years and I decided, its time to simplify things. After a month of shopping around, asking local DJs as well as my local dealers and comparing all the specs (and biased word of mouth), I went with Behringer. These are used for indoor and outdoor Gigs. I mount two of these bad boys on their stands and blow away my crowds of 50-200. These are almost always paired with my yorkville ls720p sub Mostly hip hop or dupstep/twostep/love/house depending on the venue. I Recommend them to everyone from someone throwing partys at their house to local dive bars. Great bang for the buck

        wait till it breaks

Comments about Behringer Eurolive B212D Active PA Speaker System:

I am an active preforming muscian. we average playing out about twice a month. The gear sounds great for the price but sevice after the sale is horrible. I have spoke with three sevicemen who don't live very close meaning the sevice techs are few and far between. The one I found approved by berhinger refused to sevice my floor monitor and my powered mixer because parts availabilty is so bad. I understand things wear out and go and for that reason I believe service after the sale is just as important as price and preformance.

        Monitors for Band

        By Steve McLaughlin

        from San antonio, Texas

Comments about Behringer Eurolive B212D Active PA Speaker System:

I bought one of these as a monitor for a 4 piece band. We have keyboards, acoustic guitars, and a lot of vocals and harmonies. Not a heavy rock sound. More jazzy and pop. Billy Joel, Eagles, Jazz standards, etc. First, this thing is LOUD. Tons of power. I could probably use a couple of these for our mains for most of the venues we play. However, I probably wouldn't for our kind of music. It is very "thumpy" and bassy. I think this was more tuned for DJ type of music. I had to roll off the bass on the speakers eq to 0...and it was still a little bottom heavy. This speaker is very loud, but I wouldn't necessarily call it all that musical. I gave it 4 stars, because for the price, it is an outstanding value. With the bass rolled off, it worked well as our monitor. The sound dispersion worked perfectly for 3 musicians on stage(we give the keyboardist his own monitor/mix.) I think this could work really well as rock bands main for small venues, and for DJ's. I say small venues, meaning clubs, gyms, ballrooms, etc. It is very loud, so I'm sure it would do well even outside. For the price, it's an outstanding deal. Light, powerful, built extremely well. I have heard that the amps on these things might not last too long, but that might depend on usage as well. Our band will never come close to pushing this thing, and we only play 2-3 times a month. So, I'm thinking it should last longer under those conditions. As a stage monitor, it more than meets our needs.

I purchased one of these to run bar trivia. You can't beat it for the price. I used to have Mackie SRM450v1's when I was a full-time DJ (LOVED THEM) but I didn't want to put out $1000 for those again. I haven't cranked this one up yet, but it's got great sound for what I use it for.

Comments about Behringer Eurolive B212D Active PA Speaker System:

I dont do alot of music events. But for PA use at the Orange county convention center, this baby really throws out the sound. It is very powerful, rugged, and does the trick. I have made mine for over a year now and it works great. I plan on buying one more. Good luck to you all!

        Great Speaker for the Price

Comments about Behringer Eurolive B212D Active PA Speaker System:

Just bought this speaker today and WOW. The sound is very crisp and has great punch. You will absolutely not find a better bang for your buck than this speaker. Not only does it have great sound it is extremely light and can easily be taken anywhere. I do not know about the reliability yet since i just bought this speaker but I have heard some good and some bad stories about the reliability. Also if you are just starting out to Dj and want to find some great starting PA speakers this is a fantastic way to go also. Great product you will be satisfied.
