Overview

The Behringer EUROPOWER PMP4000 Powered Mixer (2 x 800W stereo, 1600W bridged mode) produces even more power than its predecessors while maintaining famously low weight and high efficiency. The EUROPOWER PMP4000 mixer employs Class-D technology including a switch-mode power supply, significantly reducing weight and heat. The 16-Channel Behringer PMP4000 offers 8 built-in XENYX mic preamps, 24-bit FX processor with 100 presets, and FBQ Feedback Detection.

What is Class-D Technology?
Instead of operating relatively continuously like Class AB circuits, Class-D amps switch on and off thousands of times per second, delivering power only when needed. In other words, the amplifier is either fully on or fully off, which significantly reduces power losses from the output devices given off as heat. Less heat means the amps don't need massive heat sinks, and that makes them lighter. This no-compromise design means the EUROPOWER PMP4000 mixer will deliver full power with incredible fidelity all night long, without the need for lengthy rest cycles.

When used in conjunction with switching-mode power supplies, which don't require huge and heavy transformers, Behringer's Class-D amplifiers provide tremendous dynamic punch and superior fidelity. The resulting speaker systems are much lighter, making them easy to transport and set up.

Massive Mono or Stunning Stereo
EUROPOWER PMP4000 gives you the choice of 2 x 800-watt stereo, 2 x 800-watt dual mono mode (giving you a mono version of the main signal through one powered output plus a mono version of all monitor send signals through the second powered input) or 1,600-watt bridged mono sound. Whether the center of attention happens to be a folk trio, a speech, or a synth-rock band with mind-boggling stereo patches, the EUROPOWER PMP4000 mixers can accommodate. This sonic versatility also makes it an excellent choice for churches, where vocals and stereo recordings often share face time.

Classic Control, State-of-the-Art Sound
Leave the mic preamps at home, because the quality of sound that was once only available in the studio is ready to go wherever you do. Built-in, boutique-caliber mic preamps with switchable +48V phantom power make it possible to use either dynamic or condenser mics with the EUROPOWER PMP4000. It gives you 8 mic inputs.

Built-in Digital Effects Processor
The EUROPOWER PMP4000 comes equipped with a 24-bit FX processor, giving you 100 mind-blowing digital effect presets such as delay, chorus, and reverb. Apply them to any channel, as well as to the monitors and main output. In case you're pulling double duty as sound engineer and performer, the FX processor features a footswitch jack for remote on/off. Of course, if you have treasured outboard gear you've grown attached to, the EUROPOWER PMP4000 can integrate them into the mix while leaving out the built-in FX processor.

Changing the Channels
The EUROPOWER PMP4000 mixer has excellent flexibility to accommodate whatever a performance requires. You get 8 channels for mics, guitars, and other mono instruments. Stereo channels 9-16 are designed to work in pairs as stereo channels, or independently for more mono instruments. All mono channels have 3-band EQ, switchable low-cut filter for eliminating infrasonics, and Clip LEDs to indicate when the input signal is too hot.

The FBQ Feedback Detection system automatically shows you which frequencies are causing feedback. Just touch the FBQ button and watch the red LEDs on the 7-band graphic EQ pinpoint show you which frequencies to adjust for optimized sound, without the feedback.

The Ins and Outs
Use the CD/Tape In RCA inputs to feed in external stereo signals from CD players or tape decks. The Voice Canceler switch eliminates the vocals from prerecorded music for instant karaoke applications.

CD/Tape Out RCA outputs send line-level signals from the mixer to a recording device. The left and right output 1/4" connectors can be used for a variety of purposes, including connecting more power amps. Connect monitor power amps or active monitor speakers to the Mon Sound output. Powered outputs on this mixer are available in professional Speakon-compatible format.

Small, Simple, Superb
Medium-sized events call for a lightweight, easy-to-use powered mixer. The EUROPOWER PMP4000 mixer is one of the most efficient, affordable mixers for the job, and is even suitable for use as pure analog mixer or as a pure power amplifiers. With new technological advantages and incredible built-in features, it's easier than ever to lend exceptional sound quality to all kinds of public performances.

PMP4000 Review

By Richard Delacalzada

from Kern, CA

Comments about Behringer EUROPOWER PMP4000 16 Ch Powered Mixer w FX:

Wanting a more portable and small powered mixer, I decided this one would suit my needs well. Very simple to use, but the manual included (Multilanguage: EM, ES, FR) left a lot out from the english only version I found online. Anyways, the specs are decent: In normal "stereo" mode--300w(400w peak) @ 8ohms per channel/600w(800w peak)@ 4ohms per channel": It's not bad that I can run four 8 ohm speakers (2 per channel = 4ohms) with a pretty good punch. The 12" 2-way pro audio speakers I have handled well with the levels and punchiness from the bass. Very bright. When running a couple of Peavey PR15's (1 @ 8ohms per channel), the bottom end was very nice. In Main/Mono mode running 2 8ohm 12" speakers (in parallel) as monitors in channel A; 2 PR15s (in parallel) in channel B: This simple main/monitor setup sounds real good and projects good power for the monitors. In Bridged mode (8-16 ohms only)(Channel "B" ONLY) 1200w(1600w peak). This is where I felt the power amp limits me. As mentioned above I have been running 8-ohm speakers. So unless I can find good 16-ohm speakers to run a couple in parallel (and utilize the full potential of the amp), I'm limited to using 1 8-ohm cabinet. The english version of the manual has MANY warnings of minimum ohm ratings (and definately not to use channel A when in bridged mode). I believe I won't need that kind of power in a small venue, but it would be cool. In that case, the PMP4000 has plenty of (main/main2/monitor1-2) outputs to allow me to run a couple of power amps I have that will pump 1400w in bridge mode @ 2-ohms to satify my power/speaker combinations. The effects processor (99 presets) should cover your effects needs. Chorus, Reverbs, Echos, etc, etc, etc. Not bad to have handy on stage. There is also a "XPQ" effects switch - basically a "surround" effect that widens the stereo effect. When running MP3s through the mixer, it really gave the sound a fuller effect. Sounds real nice, even outdoors. Another feature is a voice cancellation switch that filters vocal-specific frequencies from the CD/Tape input signal. Bottom line is you can play a song of your liking and remove (most of) the vocals from it, making the PMP4000 a "Karaoke" machine. For the price, portability and features of the PMP4000, (just by itself) I believe it is a very good choice for small venues. Versatile enough for expansion for bigger/outdoor type gigs. This model has plastic sides and a plastic carrying handle, so I question its ruggedness. But there are many ATA style hard cases out there for this model. The quality of this mixer, as compared to other like brands, will hold its' own. Although I have read reliability issues, there are just as many good reviews on its performance, as there are many of like brand names. I am satified that this system will suit my needs for a very long time.

Awesome little mixer, innit?

By West

from Albuquerque, NM

Comments about Behringer EUROPOWER PMP4000 16 Ch Powered Mixer w FX:

I purchased this unit along with a PA package because I was tired of being drowned out by my band mates (prior to this purchase, we were using a 4-channel mixer with a guitar amp as speaker-- yeah, it was that bad). For the most part, our gigs use the house system, so my PA is pretty much just-for-practice, but we've used it at house parties too. We run the vox through it, the kick drum and keyboards (on occasion). It's simple to use and has a lot of good options to shape the sound. FX bank is cool, but I wish it had a delay-timer and some other gizmos to bring a more dynamic atmosphere to some songs. I've had it for over two years and haven't had any problems with it whatsoever. It's a great mixer, on the whole. I have absolutely no complaints, and no regrets.

Worst Product I Ever Purchased

By JEFF RINGENBERGER

from Bethlehem, PA

Comments about Behringer EUROPOWER PMP4000 16 Ch Powered Mixer w FX:

I thought I'd start here to kick off a new DJ and Karaoke business. After spending thousands of dollars on music and karaoke, I didn't have much left over to get the PA. I figured this offered a lot of power, looked like it was built very durably, and was priced great. The first one I got never actually worked right. Something must have been wrong with the power amp because it never came close to the power that it should have had. So, giving the benefit of the doubt that I may have just got a dud, I exchanged it out. Within 3 months the board developed an intermitant clicking that came loudly through the speakers. Having friends in the business, I plugged a different mixer throught the same speakers. Yep, it was the mixer. So I exchanged that one out for, you guessed it, board number 3. 3rd time's the charm, right? Wrong! After another 6 months, this one developed the same clicking. Now, it was outside the store return policy, but before the extended warranty policy. So it falls on Behringer's policy. They require that the product be sent out for repair. Sent it to the first place. They don't even handle Behringer repairs anymore and have asked Behringer numerous times to take their name off the list. I finally get it back to find out the repair location worked on it for an hour and found nothing wrong with it and shipped it back, improperly packaging. The package looked so bad I was afraid to plug the thing in to test it. By the time I finally received the board back, the Behringer warranty had expired and the extended warranty kicked in. YAY!!! The extended warranty asked me to ship the damaged board back and gave me store credit. Unfortunately, I was kind of stuck getting the same board again (number 4) because there wasn't any self powered boards with this much power at this price. Since then, I purchased a Mackie ProFX12 and JBL PRX615M speakers. Thank you tax return! I have never had a problem in about a year and a half with my new system other than a tendancy of rattling building apart (no real problem there!). The Behringer has since become a back up system that collects dust more than it backs up. Every now and then I take it out and make sure it works just in case, but I will never truly depend on it. DO NOT BUY BEHRINGER ANYTHING!!!

My PMP4000 Failed Twice in Two Yaars.

By Diane Zastovnik

from Clovis, CA

Comments about Behringer EUROPOWER PMP4000 16 Ch Powered Mixer w FX:

I would give this only one star, but when it works, it does the job. About 1 year after purchase from Guitar Center, my PMP4000 lost most of the input channels. Also the FX did not work. I sent it in for warranty repair (1 yr warranty when I purchased it). Now after almost a year, one input channel has failed and the FX does not work again. I purchased an extended warranty and will be sending it in for repair again. I don't know if I have a rare lemon, or if other people are having problems. I use the mixer no more than 10 times a year. I treat it gently: I use a surge protector. I never plug cables in when the mixer is on. Behringer now has a 3 year warranty. Purchase an additional 3 year warranty, it maybe you can keep it repaired enough to get some use out of it. When mine fails (in a year) I will not buy a Behringer.
