First of all, the reviewer giving the one star rating entitled, "Junk," has no idea what s/he is reviewing. This unit truly is a versatile utility knife for the home studio, gigging, or even higher level adventures. It has a lot of capability to create a great pre/post mix and is very user friendly. There's nothing else like it for the money.
First, pay no attention to the one star reviewer. He doesn't know what he is doing. That aside, I am a mobile DJ and this mixer has performed with me without fail for 5+ years. It has handled everything I've plugged into it. This includes guitars, 3+ mics, laptops, cd players, etc. For the price, it really is a decent quality mixer. Definitely worth it if you're on a budget. Just take care of it and don't get sand in it.
This board has speaker protection circuitry, which is why the guy hooking to a bookshelf speaker is getting nothing but clicks. The board is lightweight, compact, easy to run and has a great sound. I compared mine with a Mackie (using the same speaker cabs) side by side and found it to be MUCH cleaner sounding. I was astounded how much better it sounded than the Mackie, and also it's much easier to use.
We bought this board for a courtroom setting. It only has 4 mics. Pretty easy for this board to handle that kind of "load" right? Guess again. With just 4 standard mics and one bookshelf type speaker it just sits and clicks and produces no sound. The amp system on it is complete garbage. BEWARE! Behringer is a cheap, worthless knock-off of a real mixer. It might be tempting due to the price, but I have been around several of the powered mixers and the Behringers always have bad quirks and problems. Go with Mackie or Yamaha.
