I purchased a used CX3400 to crossover the low frequencies of my PC sound system: Audioengine A2 Polk PSW 505 Focusrite Saffire Pro 24 Behringer CX3400 Needless to say...the difference this baby has made, by not bogging down my little A2's (at ear level), has been nothing but stunning! There is absolutely no hiss or noise (Focusrite has balanced outputs as well as the CX3400 and I'm using all balanced cables). Having a dedicated subwoofer control gain is much nicer than controlling the output via software. If I ever used my main system for music instead of movies, I would definitely purchase another one for that system.
Once I got this unit properly setup, it brought my PA rig to life. Engage the subsonic filters to protect your subs. Using the in-built limiter, it's possible to nose up a couple more dB without having to worry about clipping the amp or damaging the drivers. While not a true compressor, it does help keep things from turning south in your event/gigs. This crossover was a huge step up from a Kicker car crossover. I built it into a US Mil-Surplus rackmount box so I could use subs with a cheap power amp I have. The car crossover I used to use eventually lead to me blowing one of my subs at a gig, so I knew I had to upgrade ASAP. To sum it up, I would recommend this one over Behringer's lower model because of the increased flexibility that this unit offers, and its XLR I/O, which works extremely well with my amp and a custom-built XLR in & Speakon outputs access panel on my rack.
