We all assume that the MIDI Keyboard is the #1 Go-To tool for interfacing with our DAW -- and yes, it BASICALLY is -- but I found that, time and time again, I just couldn't accomplish what I needed without an extended array of knobs. It's strange that we consider MIDI Keyboards to be the Go-To DAW controller, when (usually) all they do is allow us to play MIDI instruments and usually have some minimal knobs and sliders. Great. But we want CONTROL. So, one day I decided that I needed KNOBS. LOTS OF THEM. And I can emphatically say that I found them. It's a LOT of knobs (more than you even think by looking at it), the top knobs are my favourite, the lights work really well and you can really track your movements, PLUS there are 4 subsections of the top row that can be switched around (via 4 buttons to the top right.) So let's say you want to utilize the top 8 knobs for FX controls -- you can make "Page 1" 8 Reverb Controls, "Page 2" 8 Compressor Controls, "Page 3" 8 FX Controls and "Page 4" 8 Delay controls.. IDK, whatever you want! And then you can control the Volume Levels of 24 separate tracks below with the static knobs. All in all, that would be 56 easily-accessible knobs! Works perfectly with any DAW, and if you buy two of them (at this price, it's no problem!) you've got 112 knobs in total. I have never been able to control my sessions as easily as I do with this guy. 1. Build quality is solid (it's not made of steel, but it doesn't have moving parts that should break easily.) 2. Ease of use. 3. Perfect price. Can't go wrong with this. Your keyboard may play the notes of your MIDI instruments, but THIS is the DAW Controller. And ha @ "Beans Cheese and Rice 2000"
The flexibility of this MIDI controller is great for people who need a programmer for certain synths or people who want to control certain midi functions on the fly. Drum machines, samplers and voice processors all will benefit from this device. Setting up the device is a snap. The Java applet downloadable from Behringer is supposed to be helpful but I never got it working. Before you buy it, however, make sure the midi data sent and received with your device is compatible, and will do what you want it to do. More automatic programmable expectations could be had by the BCF2000, or the fader variant of this device. Commonly known as the "Beans Cheese and Frijoles."
