This little Xenyx FX mix pad provides some very nice, usable and realistic sounding effects, which in my opinion are a dramatic improvement over those provided on pre-Xenyx models. This unit replaced an Alesis' Multi-Mix FX, due to a noisy main volume pot that just would not spray clean. The only thing I wish it had, like the Alesis are a full four channel strips that has the 3 band EQ, instead of just the first two channels on the XENYX. I use those small mixers to the max and sometimes my additional feeds to the inputs just need more of an EQ tweak than what comes straight out of (an ipod etc). I actually incorporated this into my Roland V-drum frame, so that I can instantly dial up some deep verb, if a song calls for it, without having to dig through a menu to get to the Roland On-board effects. It also works great for a superb mix of signals that need to be monitored and then fed either through the headphone output or through any powered speaker system. I channel everything in mono, so I use a two-into-one splitter on the main output, to run it to my amp. This way it does not matter which way a channel is panned. If I have a left/right input source on one of the stereo channels I can still balance the signal from either side to be more or less dominant in the overall mix, when necessary. While I'm not sure how to appreciate "British" EQ, which is what they boast in, with Xenyx (British??.......versus German? Polish? American EQ?), but it does provide a smooth boost or decrease in the High, Mid or Low range with each tweak. The rear power plug IS a little bit of a problem child, in that the 2 pins on the power supply side, right inside the plug are not very robust and I've seen those broken off, inside the mixer plug. They should really design that plug to fit only one way, but not by means of whether or not the pins are aligning with the holes, but by way of molding the main plug housing in a way so as to only go in one way. I believe it's when you twist the plug whilst plugging it into the mixer, to find the correct alignment, that is when the pins get bent, compromised and eventually broken. On my older Xenyx 1204FX this happened, and I had to open the mixer, and permanently solder the wires directly to the circuit board and then securing the wire a couple of pieces of hardware. (a sort of home made strain relief system). OVERALL impression: Despite the fact that Behringer seems to get a bad 'rep' for NOT being made as well as Mackie or other competitors, YOU DO really get your money's worth if you take reasonably good care of the gear. They're definitely about as compact as you can find such a puppy and worth having, even if after 5 years I'm buying another one. Heck $$$ is not the end of the world when you consider that length of time as "use-value".

  • Almost there...

As reviewed by DJ C on 2/8/2010

Price, features, and sound quality are A+. There are two problems, however. The worst of the two is that the power cord connector is insecure. A small bump will jar it loose, resulting in dead mixer and a "worst case scenario" for any DJ or live performing musician: silence! This makes me very nervous using this thing for the purpose I bought it for. The second issue may sound minor, but it shouldn't be an issue at all: The pilot light is WAY TOO intense. It is a blinding blue LED, at least 4x brighter than necessary. In a darkened room (like a DJ or musican is generally in) you will not be able to see the other controls because the silly pilot light is glaring right into your eyes. I put a small piece of gaffers tape over mine to fix that problem.
