This is a very cool product. I have 3 of them and have had no problems so far. I bought one in mid 2009 and I liked it so much that I decided to buy 2 more recently(Feb 2010). It's extremely easy to use. I plugged the USB interface into my laptop's USB port and Windows immediately recognized and installed it. Run RCA cables from the UCA's output to your mixer and you're ready to play your laptop through your system. To record, run cables from mixer to input on UCA. You have to get a recording software like audacity installed on your pc though.You probably can use the sound recorder that Windows has, though I've never used it. Go to the Behringer website and ask their support guys if you want more information. They're very helpful. At least that has been my experience. I also use one to connect another laptop to my TV to transfer sound(not picture. Works great! One thing though- I found that when I connect to my desktop(I have Windows XP) I have to go to "Sounds and Audio properties" and manually change the output to USB Codec, otherwise my pc continues to play through my pc speakers and not through my system. I don't have this "problem" with my laptops. To go to Sounds and Audio properties, click Start, Control panel,(in category view)Sounds speech and audio devices,Sounds and audio devices,Audio. Under "default device" change to USB Codec. Hope this has been helpful.
I first got one of these with a Behringer mixer i purchased, and was blown away by the quality compared to the interface i had before. Although it is not professional quality, it is excellent none the less, and i did manage to get a friend's song i recorded to be regularly played on the local radio station. When i decided that i wanted to expand beyond the two inputs of the U-control, i looked into firewire interfaces and such, but decided to take a different more cost-effective route. I bought 5 more U-controls, hooked all 6 up to my laptop with the help of a USB-multiport, and they worked flawlessly, all 12 inputs. If you're looking for a cheap way to get good quality for a cheap price, pick up a few of these.
