I bought this package to set up for Voice Over work I do at home; the package looked like everything I needed and was excited to get it and set it up; it shipped quickly but excitement quickly became dissapointment; I did not realize that the audio software Ableton Live Lite is just that, LITE; it's a trial software; the ad said it came with professional grade audio software and it is professional grade, if it was a full version; I have an older version of Cool Edit Pro which is fine but feel a little deceived; now if it was a full version, I'd be standing on a soap box with a trumpet;
I brought this few months ago to have a small Home studio set-up. This gigs did a good job for me. I would very much recommend for Beginners to get started with. Its simple to use. Quality of the product is also good. For the price this is best. I used it with PC so do not have much Idea about Mac. The Driver for the Firewire Interface (FCA202) is only available for 32bit OS. It does not support for 64bit OS at all. Headphone is very comfortable to put on and give good frequency response. I love the mixer, its quality is superb!!
If you are looking for a beginner recording studio, this is it. This product is a 2 pre-amped, 2 non-preamped input with a great computer recording studio. The sound quality is good with basses, electric guitars and for the mic. I would recommend this product if you are starting out or if you are looking for multi-input systems without burning a hole in your pocket.
There is a great disadvantage of this product: it is made by Behringer. They make good products that are cheap but they are notorious for not providing product support. You cannot use this product with 64-bit operating systems. They have added support for Vista 32 bit so you would need a 32 bit Vista or XP operating system on your PC. I am told that it is plug and play with Macs but I dont own a Mac and havent tested that. I dont think Behringer is going to support 64 bit operating systems in the next couple years.
Another thing is it is firewire. Depending on how you look at it, it is an advantage because it is faster than USB but also some laptops, especially small ones dont have firewire. But there are two firewire interfaces on the sound controller so the controller does not take up the firewire interface of your computer, i.e. you can plug in something else to the controller and run both on the computer.
All in all, if you are willing to spend a couple hours installing windows XP rather than spending a couple bucks, this is the way to go.
