  • Good For The Price

I bought a Behringer mic-200 preamp a few years ago and it has proven to be a pretty versatile preamp. It's just a tiny bit edgier sounding than the Studio Projects VTB-1 preamp I have since purchased, but the VTB-1 costs about twice as much. For the price, the mic 200's sound is pretty good. For a first preamp you won't beat it. It definitely adds some warmth to your tracks. Pair this with a Behringer or Studio Projects large diaphragm condensor mic in the $100 range and for a $150 outlay you'll be creating some reasonably warm sounding vocal tracks. If you can afford to spend more, I'd go for the Studio Projects VTB-1, but for under $50, you'll be pleasantly surprised with this.

For the price, You cant beat the MIC200. The unit has a limiter which quickly shapes your sound to 16 voicings for guitars, vocals, keyboards etc. The vacuum tube provides a warm sound. I have been using it in the studio and it sounds pretty good. The unit is phantom powered so you can use your condensor mics on it. It has both the 1/4" and the XLR jacks on it so you can use either or. The only problem I have had with the unit is sometimes it produces static noise. The static goes away if you touch the unit (probably a grounding problem). All in all its a really good unit and you cannot beat it for the price.

  • Worth the money

The Ultragain gives a nice warm tone to my solid state amp.It also helps to smooth out vocals and to give more presence for slide.I'm thinking of buying another one for a spare in case they are ever discontinued. For the money I can't think of any other product that has treated me so well!
