NEW REVIEW - Behringer Guitar Link UCG102USB

The buying experience was good. I wished they would have stocked this at the store but no instant gratification. I did get email with tracking number when it shipped. It arrive as predicted. Shipped within 24 hours. The gizmo works well. In consideration of the cost, I would give this a high value. I had no trouble installing the driver or the amp modeling software that came with it. Within a few minutes, I was recording on Audacity. I am not a pro musician. I play music with the hand of a technician not an artist. The art police would arrest me for what I recorded. Gizmo is worth the money and fun to play with. Buy it.

Great portable interface

I got the UCG102 for my laptop and guitar, but as When I started using it, I realized that the UCG102 also has the potential of becoming a USB sound card with very little latency. The UCG102 works in Windows XP and also with Fedora Linux under Jack (Jack Audio Connection Kit). Included software and manual are very good as well. Overall construction is solid, and the built-in USB cable is more than ample for the length. The volume controls and switches feel nice, and are easy on the ears when wearing headphones. Overall, I am very pleased with this interface... its very small, self-powered, and the quality is very good.

USB Guitar Link

I love this thing. Very simple to use. I run this using asio4all driver. I have no problem with latency. I used it on my quad-core machine with 4GB; no problem running mozilla and other apps at the same time. CPU load barely at 10%. I had to optimize my laptop which is a 1.7GHz m P4 384GB RAM by disabling all the unnecessary services and other crap. It's an old DELL Inspiron 2650. It runs the CPU at about 30% but no latency issues with that either. I used amplitube, guitar rig and a bunch of other software. The software that comes with this thing is crap. Behringer does not provide the full version of energyXT. You get only one of the NI's combos as a full version. I'm using vsthost freeware with other freeware VSTs that I find. Works much better with this thing vs. plugging into the unmatched line port.

Did not work

Purchased this to use with a Mac Book Pro. Product came with some software that was basically a stripped down version of Guitar Rig it seems. All software installed fine. However, the Guitar Link would not output any sound from my laptop. Behringer's site offered very little in the way of FAQS for Mac, so after an hour of researching online it seems that this problem has come up for numerous users.

Useless.

It has been two hours since I opened this and not a second of anything is recorded. The instructions they give you are completely useless. The software is garbage. All I want to do, is record something. This can't even do that. Don't buy.
