When I was still getting my home recording set-up together a few years ago, the budget was everything. I chose the Behringer Autocom PRO-XL because of the reasonable list price, and I haven't regretted it since.
The unit is solidly built, and like many Behringer products, it is pretty tough to find this many features for a comparable price. It has all the knobs you need for a compressor/limiter/expander, two fully independent channels, XLR and 1/4" inputs, and seperate VU meters so you can monitor your input and output levels accurately.
All in all, it has been a great choice for my first compressor. So far, the only limitations I have run into are due to my ability level, not the the capabilities of the machine.
What a wonderful peace of equipment. Has improved my vocal recordings in my home studio. Really has stepped up my sound quality and is allowing me to perfect my signature sound. Vocal recording have a nice warm and clean sound.
