This book identifies 30 distinct guitar riff types, and illustrates them with 150 examples, examining how they have been developed and used by great rock musicians, including members of Cream, The Beatles, Nirvana, Soundgarden, Metallica, Limp Bizkit, The Strokes, and The White Stripes. The first half of the book analyzes classic rock riffs and reveals the stories behind their creation, supported by illustrations and a 30-track CD of audio examples. The second section shows how to construct great riffs. You'll learn how to shape a melody, integrate a guitar riff with the rest of a song, enhance it with effects, and work with intervals and scales. A great book for guitarists

Comments about Backbeat Books Riffs: How to Create and Play Great Guitar Riffs (Book/CD):

I got this book for my son about a month ago, and he finished it within a week. It tells how to write riffs very well and how to revise them. It comes with a CD. It also has a gallery of songs that have particular riffs in them, so if you want to hear what a certain riff sounds like, you just listen to the song that is stated in the book. It also talks about each song in detail.
