The Woodpecker Active Ribbon Microphone from Blue is one of the most interesting and beautiful microphones you'll ever lay eyes or ears on. With a stunning exotic wood finish and unique active circuitry, beneath its gorgeous exterior, the Woodpecker is a precision-crafted recording tool. Combines the low noise and superb detail of Blue's renowned Class-A discrete handmade electronics with the bold sound of a hand-tuned aluminum ribbon pressure-gradient transducer.

The Woodpecker microphone was designed to provide the smooth, intimate sound associated with the most sought-after vintage ribbon microphones. With its focused mid-range, and outstanding bass response, the Woodpecker mic captures the essence of any recorded sound. It also excels at ambient recording and capturing room tone with the most intimate detail - whether for rock drums, guitars or vocals - any application where some natural space in the recording is desired.

Usually, ribbon mics require preamps with at least 60-70dB of gain. Not so with the Woodpecker. Its active design allows you to use it with any preamp, so you don't have to replace yours in order to have the acknowledged musicality of a ribbon transducer.

The Woodpecker microphone package includes a custom made, solid brass shockmount and wood storage box.

Not all glitter

Comments about BLUE Woodpecker Active Ribbon Microphone:

Bought this mic a few days ago and have now re-cut vocals that were originally done with a Neumann TLM 170 running through a Sapphire Pro 40, Logic set-up. Initially, the results were a little disappointing....seemed a little harsh....until I dialed in just the right EQ, compression and effects. I'm happy to report that the sound is now every bit as good as the Neumann and the vocals cut through the track even better. Since the TLM 170 I've been using isn't mine...I was looking for a permeant replacement without spending 3k. I may have found what I was looking for. Additionally, when recording my beloved Taylor AC guitar...this mic outshined the Neumann and even two Schoeps CMC 6--U mics that a sound engineer recommended I try. Being a "hot" ribbon mic...the primary negative is that it picks up everything... and I mean this mic requires serious isolation. It certainly took longer to dial in than the Neumann on vocals as well....but for the may work well for you.

Comments about BLUE Woodpecker Active Ribbon Microphone:

i love this microphone its really fit my voice, i am a female singer, singing rock, pop rock, rnb, actually every kind of music i have a fat low voice and a bit hoarseness inside, i dont like too bright sound in my highs, but usually many mic picks the highs really bright(clear) but this mic comes out really nice, give me a warm voice generally, even on my highs, but still clear enough to hear every details. i enjoyed it btw i use blue robbie as my pre amp amazing,
