Comments about Blue Spark Condenser Microphone Platinum Limited Edition:
I bought this for recording an acoustic guitar since my dynamic mics were not strong enough to pick up the acoustic guitar without turning up the input levels too high for good sound quality. I used this mic through a phantom powered Line 6 UX2 usb interface with a vocal pre-amp simulator included in the Line 6 Gearbox software. It did such a great job I went ahead and used it for the vocal track as well. The focus switch helped take some of the boominess off the guitar, but it is subtle. The Blue site describes it as medium diaphragm. It is quite sensitive, but not annoyingly so like some of the larger diaphragm condensors. I had to turn off the A/C unit to kill the air flow noise, but I did not have to put the singer in a closet for noise isolation as is often the case with these condensor mics. It picks up sound clearly and precisely across frequencies. I don't have any expensive mics to do comparisons with this one, but my goal was to have a recording that sounded like what we were hearing in the room and this mic did that very well. The build quality is very good, it is hefty and looks & feels solid, same for the included shock mount and pop screen. It also came with a quality XLR cable and nice padded wood carry box. I have only had it a few weeks so I can't say much about the longevity, but otherwise I am very happy with it in all respects. From what I know of Blue plus the obvious overall build quality I am confident it will work fine for many years. As large diaphragm condensor mics go the price of the Spark is very reasonable, great quality for the money.
