Overview

The B.C. Rich ASM 1 is an electric guitar that is not short on looks or features! Reliable and growling B.C. Rich B.D.S.M pickups coupled with a vintage style tremolo allow you to throw down your best riffs with style. B.C. Rich even added their signature hollowpoint inlays on the fretboard. The flat-top styling gives a bold and pristine look to the guitar's edge.

Bolt-on Construction

A number of B.C. Rich guitars use a classic bolt-on construction. On these guitars the neck is connected to the body with 4 bolts. This construction offers some added flexibility in the guitar's adjustment and provides the option to change the neck in the future.

B.C. Rich BDSM Pickups

B.C. Rich designed their BDSM humbucking pickups to provide a solid sound and to be durable while delivering high output. BDSM stands for Broad Dynamic Sonically Matched. Which simply means that the pickup is designed to reproduce a wide range of frequencies accurately (broad dynamic). Then they are tested and matched in pairs (Neck and Bridge) by their inherent individual and signature tonal and output characteristics to give a solidly balanced tone (sonically matched).

The Assassin was introduced in 1986. It was a double cutaway that was a departure for the odd shaped models that B.C. Rich was known for up until that time. In 1986, there were other double cutaways that B.C. Rich began making with various headstocks, pickup configurations, controls and finishes. The ASM model was one of these double cutaways but was introduced much later. There was an ASM 1 and ASM 2, with slightly different shapes and point shapes, but the more pointed and sleek model eventually settled in as the standard ASM shape. The Outlaw originally had holes drilled in the upper bout, but later models were more traditional looking, they were mostly bolt on necks like most of the double cutaway B.C. Rich guitars.

I went in to buy a new practice amp at local music store, I have a strat, a les paul, and a dean mustaine v,, when they handed me this guitar I was amazed, at the workmanship for a cheaper guitar, everything felt solid, super fast neck, the stock pick ups were a bit weak, but needless to say i ended up adding it to my collection, along with the amp,, what an amazing value!!! get yourself one you won't at all be disappointed

I bought this guitar last summer as my very first electric guitar. At the time i had only been plaing for about 5 months and it was amazing until i become more experienced and learned more complicated stuff. The body is nice and comfortable but the neck is kinda thick for me, and the frets rip your fingers to shreds when sliding a lot. For a cheap guitar, the pickups are pretty nice but gets muddy when you drop tune alot like i do. Depending on the type of music you play, this may b a bad or good guitar. Its nice for thrash and extreme metal, but for more intense and technical music like metalcore or hardcore it has much to b desired. Not bad for the price but if youve been playing for awhile and play technical music then stay away.

Affordable Hard Rock Guitar

By Ted Ottinger

from Nashville, TN

The first thing I want to stress is that this is a hard rock guitar. The pickups are really hot. I record through a Line 6 Pod, and even clean settings sound like I'm using some sort of overdrive, if you dont turn down the volume on the guitar. This guitar looks great and feels great. plays well, and stays in tune. The pickups make it "not for everyone", but lets be honest. If you're buying a BC Rich, you know that you're not not going to get a "subtle" tone. This a lot of guitar for the price. It's lack of versatility, in terms of tone keep it at 3 stars for me. But I cant think of anything else about this guitar that isnt exactly what it claims to be.

Awesome Guitar for the price

By Richard Marsh

from Michigan

What a great guitar. Fit and finish is excellant and plays really smooth for a guitar in this price range. The neck fits me well and is very smooth. Action is not to high and not to low. The BC Rich pick ups are suprisingly good. Other reviewers have compained that the frets are to high and sharp. I have not experienced this. Others have had problems keepig it in tune. Again, I have not experienced this either. This is my first electric guitar in many years and I can not be anymore happy with it. Plays great, sounds great and it did not break the bank. I would recommend this guitar to anyone that wanted those qualities. Try it you will like it.

Good guitar for beginners

By brandon regan

from Flushing,Queen

Even though ive played for 2 years i know my stuff and and the non locking tremolo system has horrendous tuning stability for heavy metal. However, it has helped me when i did start out so i think it would be great for beginners (sorry if i spelt it wrong)The strings have lasted along time and as we know every guitarist would want a new shredding machine, as they progress in their talent and skill, so i think it would be fantastic as a starting guitar

pretty nice

By Ryan Hoel

from Orlando, Fl.

So there are going to be a couple categories for my rating... This is my first shipment order from Guitar Center, and I think they did a bad job with the packaging. When I received the guitar in the mail it was in a huge box, inside that box was a smaller box which included the guitar wrapped up in a thin foam wrap. The only thing to keep the guitar from banging around during the shipping process were some foam pieces shoved in between the two boxes. As a result of this poor packaging there are a few minor scratches on my brand new guitar. The guitar itself is nice, the guitar has a nice feel to it and has a great tone. I got the cheapest version (the red color) of this guitar, the color in person is actually much nicer than I expected it to be. It actually has a nice sparkle to it I guess you could say. Originally I really wanted the black guitar but just didn't want to pay the extra money for it. To sum things up, as I said, the guitar overall plays and sounds great. I definitely would recommend this guitar for all intermediate and beginner level players. I'm satisfied with my purchase.

Its B.C. Rich, but not built like one

By Brian B

from Manchester, NH

I bought this guitar at guitar center, and it was absolutely amazing in sound, however after about 3 months, the neck ended up twisted. The sound is dynamite, 24 frets, never goes out of tune when you use the whammy bar. Long story short, get it, but get a warranty as well.

Great guitar for the price. Super sound and no problems with keeping it tuned. B.C. Rich is my favorite brand and this one doesn't disappoint.

Great for beginners!

By Lucas Meinstad

from Howard Lake, MN

I have had this guitar for about 4 months now, and it still plays great! The stock pickups aren't bad at all, I still have them in it, and I love to play the drop tuned metal stuff. The neck has a good feel to it, and the fretboard also feels very nice! It's also easy to change the strings; just put them the bridge and tune! With that being said, there are also negatives about this guitar as well. Maybe it's just my model, but the tuners are a little stiff when tuning from time to time. You could probably fix this yourself though. The bridge does have a whammy bar, but it's not a locking bridge, so if you abuse the whammy bar (which a lot of people do, including me) be prepared to re-tune a couple strings from time to time. The volume knob is in a position that if you do use the whammy bar, there is a good possibility that you could spin the knob by accident when grabbing or dumping off the bar, but if you don't use it, problem solved already. All in all, this is an excellent guitar for someone beginning to move up in guitar quality. This definitely sounds much better than those cheaper guitars!

very very happy

By morgg

from boise, id

i got this about 3 months ago. it has a very smooth neck , so its easy to solo or play far apart notes. it never comes with the wammy bar but it might be best so it doesnt go out of tune. i got the black 1 and it looks very slick and new, even now. theres no noticable fingerprints. it has 20 frets if u didnt notice and it has 3 selections for the pickups. and they are good, they pick up pretty good sound and on destortion, its a beast. overall i am very happy for the price and guitar and everything. very much recomended by my other frends that have been playing longer than me (about 3 years) too.

Purely Awesome

By Brandon P.

from Blandburg, Pennsylvania

Got this guitar because i needed a new guitar that i could abuse a little bit. when i got it I couldn't put it down. It has an awesome tone, great sustain, heavy low end, and taps like a dream. I play metal and itdoes everything I could ever ask. The strap holder on the tail end stripped out but bit of superglue fixed it better tan new. The red finish is absolutely awesome and hasn't scratched yet. The fretboard was a little bit rough at first but once I played it for a while it smoothed over and now it plays great. Overall it's probably the best bang for your buck if you are into metal and heavy music, and it will last as long as you play it.
