Overview

The BBE 882i Sonic Maximizer is perfect for pro studios, sound reinforcement, clubs, and other venues requiring balanced outputs. Designed for uses requiring low noise, high headroom, and +4dBu input levels. It provides either stereo processing or processing for two separate mono channels, brightening, clarifying, and adding fullness to the sound. Features 5-segment LED output meters, +23dBu headroom, XLR and 1/4" stereo inputs and outputs, hardwired bypass, and a bypass switch for comparison of processed to unprocessed signals. Single rackspace.

The BBE Process--"What it Is"

Loudspeakers have difficulty working with the electronic signals supplied by an amplifier. These difficulties cause such major phase and amplitude distortion that the sound reproduced by the speaker differs significantly from the sound produced by the original source.
In the past, these problems proved unsolvable and were thus relegated to a position of secondary importance in audio system design. However, phase and amplitude integrity is essential to accurate sound reproduction. Research shows that the information which the listener translates into the recognizable characteristics of a live performance are intimately tied into complex time and amplitude relationships between the fundamental and harmonic components of a given musical note or sound. These relationships define a sound's "sound".
When these complex relationships pass through a speaker, the proper order is lost. The higher frequencies are delayed. A lower frequency may reach the listener's ear first or perhaps simultaneously with that of a higher frequency. In some cases, the fundamental components may be so time-shifted that they reach the listener's ear ahead of some or all of the harmonic components.
This change in the phase and amplitude relationship on the harmonic and fundamental frequencies is technically called "envelope distortion." The listener perceives this loss of sound integrity in the reproduced sound as "muddy" and "smeared." In the extreme, it can become difficult to tell the difference between musical instruments, for example, an oboe and a clarinet.
BBE Sound, Inc. conducted extensive studies of numerous speaker systems over a ten year period. With this knowledge, it became possible to identify the characteristics of an ideal speaker and to distill the corrections necessary to return the fundamental and harmonic frequency structures to their correct order. While there are differences among various speaker designs in the magnitude of their correction, the overall pattern of correction needed is remarkably consistent.
The BBE Process is so unique that 42 patents have been awarded by the U.S. Patent Office.

    Sonic not EQ.

    By GORDON SLAGLE

    from Pittsburgh PA.

Comments about BBE 882i Sonic Maximizer:

Sonic Maximizer is the way to go. Many Dj's use a EQ. EQ. may be good for a band but does not work for a disc jockey set-up. Sonic maximizer brings sound the back with a bang and adds no distortion.I have used a Sonic Maximizer for the last 15 years and have always had positive comments on the sound of my systems.

Comments about BBE 882i Sonic Maximizer:

I have had the BBE 882i for about 3 years now. All I can say is that it is amazing what this device can do to sound. I have no need for an EQ. The 3 band EQ on my DJ mixer a good crossover and this maximizer do the job beautifully. If something were ever to happen to it I would go out and purchase another in a heart beat with no hesitation.

    Completely Impressed

    By Craig

    from Evergreen, Colorado

Comments about BBE 882i Sonic Maximizer:

I'm not one to write reviews, but in this case I felt like I really wanted to let people know how much of a difference the BBE 882i can make in the way your system sounds. The music will be much more well defined and clear. Crisp and bright are more words to describe the sound. I can assure you that you will not find any other piece of gear costing 4-5 times more that can make as much difference as this single item will.

    awesome

Comments about BBE 882i Sonic Maximizer:

I plugged the BBE 882i between my Denon DN-X500 mixer and QSC RMX1450 amp, turned the lo contour to 12 o'clock and the process knob to 10 o'clock; everything sounded much better. I noticed that when the volume was turned down to background levels, the bass was still very defined. There was no distortion at all added. Yes, this is a very nice piece of equipment.

Hear It the Way You Wanted It to Sound!!!

    By DAGNABIT-LME

    from San Francisco, Ca.

Comments about BBE 882i Sonic Maximizer:

Just like anyone who browses the web looking for good gear it is hard to know what you are getting based on the manufacture's description (marketing lies), so what do we do? We read reviews and hope someone is being honest about their remarks. Well I can honestly say that with a simple twist of a few knobs you can clear up your sound as if it was the easiest EQ in the world (it is not an EQ). I turn on my maximizer everytime I turn on computer. It is extremely easy to use and it will turn the sound of your music around 100%.

    Hello Clarity

    By Liquidchrome

    from Linden, NJ

Comments about BBE 882i Sonic Maximizer:

I've been using the BBE 882i for live sound past year or so and I never run my rig without it on. It takes away the need for a main EQ. The high's can be a little to bright if mixed with a main EQ with a high shelf. Also the low mids can also get too muddy if raised too much. But just the right amounts of fairy dust and this piece is will be a permanent add-on to your live rig. That SM58 sounding a little muddy? Put this baby in your main inserts and raise the high... ear candy mmmm. They say you can used it for recording too but I have yet to try it. I DO use the plug-in though and it sounds just as good.
