The BBE Process-"What it Is"
Loudspeakers have difficulty working with the electronic signals supplied by an amplifier. These difficulties cause such major phase and amplitude distortion that the sound reproduced by the speaker differs significantly from the sound produced by the original source. In the past, these problems proved unsolvable and were thus relegated to a position of secondary importance in audio system design. However, phase and amplitude integrity is essential to accurate sound reproduction. Research shows that the information which the listener translates into the recognizable characteristics of a live performance are intimately tied into complex time and amplitude relationships between the fundamental and harmonic components of a given musical note or sound. These relationships define a sound's "sound". When these complex relationships pass through a speaker, the proper order is lost. The higher frequencies are delayed. A lower frequency may reach the listener's ear first or perhaps simultaneously with that of a higher frequency. In some cases, the fundamental components may be so time-shifted that they reach the listener's ear ahead of some or all of the harmonic components. This change in the phase and amplitude relationship on the harmonic and fundamental frequencies is technically called "envelope distortion." The listener perceives this loss of sound integrity in the reproduced sound as "muddy" and "smeared." In the extreme, it can become difficult to tell the difference between musical instruments, for example, an oboe and a clarinet. BBE Sound, Inc. conducted extensive studies of numerous speaker systems over a ten year period. With this knowledge, it became possible to identify the characteristics of an ideal speaker and to distill the corrections necessary to return the fundamental and harmonic frequency structures to their correct order. While there are differences among various speaker designs in the magnitude of their correction, the overall pattern of correction needed is remarkably consistent. The BBE Process is so unique that 42 patents have been awarded by the U.S. Patent Office.

The Amazing Tone Cleaner!!
I have recently purchased the BBE sonic stomp pedal. Being a college student with only a part time job, but also wanting a killer tone from my distortion, I bought this to see what I could do to improve my sound. I play a Telecaster through a Metal Muff distortion pedal into a Crate FXT120 amp and a Fender 412 cab. When I got this home and hooked it up, it did wonders to my tone. After about 5 minutes of toying with it, I got the perfect distortion sound not only for solos, but for rhythm too! The sustain I have now is outstanding, and when I kicked the distortion off, my clean sound was like I had slipped into a dream! I would defintely recommend this to anyone who wants to take their sound "out of the box" and step into clarity. Its a must have for anyone with a small budget. A big thanks goes out to BBE.

You'll Never Play Without It
This is the best pedal you can buy. Go try it for yourself and then you'll know what I mean. I was thinking about spending a grand or two on a new amp, but after reading the reviews on the Sonic Stomp, I had to try it out. I could not believe my ears, it made a Marshall DSL sound better. I bought it on the spot and hooked it up to my 20 year old Fender Princeton Chorus. I had previously put Dimarzio pickups in my guitars and added Celestion Vintage 30's too my amp. I noticed a small change, but after adding the Sonic Stomp it completely brought my amp to life. It took my old dull sounding amp and gave it well defined sparkle and clarity. It works great on a bass rig also. And with the money I am saving from having to buy a new amp, I am going to buy a new guitar instead.

The Best Pedal I Own
The BBE Sonic Stomp is one of those rare things that I am compelled to comment on. It is amazing. You can't describe what it does other than to say it makes everything sound better. I play a Twin with several distortion/OD pedals. My main guiatrs are Schecter Ultra III and Early 90s Ibanez AS80. They are both fantastic guitars, and they come to life through the Sonic Stomp - they never sounded as good through any of the other amps I've owned. The Stomp makes my tone stand out. I wish I'd have gotten it sooner.

Must buy if you play musical instrument
If you want to purchase musical instruments that will play through an amp, buy 5 things. Instrument, amp, 2 jacks, and this pedal. I do not have any experience with rack unit so I cannot comment on that, but this pedal unit is not just awsome, but must buy. I thought that this was all nothing but hype. IT IS NOT!!! I have cheap Behringer 15 watt bass combo with Ibanez soundgear bass. As soon as I connect this, the sound of my bass improve so much. This does not increase volume, but it does increase life of the sound. No matter how low the volume it is, the sound will travel and reach the audience.
Have this in your mind. This is NOT equalizer. It just improves overall quality of the sound and let you hear your sound.
If you think that you need more back to your sound, so that people can reconize your sound, this unit is must.

A great addition to your bass rig!
I have some experience with the old rackmount BBE Sonic Maximizers, and after reading the other reviews on GC's website, decided to pick up the Sonic Stomp for myself. I play an American P-Bass, typically through my 20-watt Hartke combo amp... this setup sounds nice, but obviously the amp doesn't entirely to the bass justice. Enter the BBE Sonic Stomp, and the amp sounds like it grew another 480 watts. I haven't a clue about the physics behind what this pedal does; all I know is it makes the low end HUGE and adds more punch and clarity to the high end. Want to cut through your band's wall of guitar sound without making yourself go deaf? That's what this pedal is all about. Don't waste your money on another digital multi-effects pedal... this pedal makes a bass sound like a BASS.
And the guys in my band all wanted to try it out with their gear too, which of course, increases my satisfaction with the product.
