Ive been playing drums for about 15 years now, Ive dabbled in a number of different styles including jazz, funk, hip-hop, rock and most recently metal. Playing metal is what drove me to buy this pedals, and I have honestly never been happier with a musical product. The first thing you notice as soon as you take these pedals out of the box is how light they are. They are incredibly strong but their weight and design allow the user to apply maximum force to the beater while applying minimal force to the pedal itself. The result of course, blazing speed. This pedal is not, however, only for those drummers who are looking to win the worlds fastest drummer competition. They are also incredibly versatile. Through my experience playing different styles of music, I feel different pedals have worked better for different styles and even for different songs within the same genre. Everything on this pedal is adjustable. Starting with the angle with which the beater hits the head, followed by the distance from the beater to the head, the height of the sonic hammer, the spring tension, the distance between the pedals, how far back the slave sits from the master and Axis even includes a switch on both pedals to adjust the overall tension of the board while keeping the bounce of the beaters constant. I would recommend this pedal to any drummer for three simple reasons. 1) No matter what type of pedal you are used to, you can achieve the same feel with these. 2.) The weight and design of the pedals do not hold you back, allowing for almost limitless possibilities in terms of speed, control and varying patterns. and 3.) The pedals are 100% solid, they come with a two year warranty but I can assure you it is not needed. Ive been beating on these bamfs for over 6 months now and nothing has changed since day one, the bolts stay tight and the joints havent offered even the tiniest squeak. The only downside to be seen here is that they are quite pricey. However, if you are serious about drumming and looking to make a long term investment both in your hardware and in your playing, these pedals are for you.

was absolutely horrendous. For starters, this pedal has no "oompf" to speak of. If you don't mind sounding like a complete wimp when you play, go for it. The original design for this pedal made the strongest point in the stroke about an inch from where the beater would actually hit the drum, after which you would lose momentum. The Sonic Hammer upgrade corrected that problem to a certain extent, but also left the user with a weaker beater design, resulting in snapped beater shafts. The springs are ridiculously fragile (both of mine broke) and when I called Axis, they promised to ship me new ones, but failed to deliver them. Six weeks later I called back, they apologized, and promised to ship them right away. That was three years ago. I'm still waiting....and worst of all? The hinge design. Two allen screws GLUED IN PLACE? You've got to be kidding!! No matter what I did, (including re-gluing them with Loc-tite on several occasions) the screws would not stay in place long enough to be useful. Twice in practice and once during a show (this being the last straw) the footboard COMPLETELY DISCONNECTED from the heel plate, rendering the pedal useless.Admittedly I can play faster on this pedal than any other pedal I've encountered, but with that many problems, you guys at Axis can keep your technologicly advanced piece of garbage. So in closing, I'd like to suggest you spend your money elsewhere. Zero durability + zero Power = a waste of your hard earned cash.Cheers.

Comments about Axis Longboard A Double Bass Drum Pedal:

I bought this pedal because I was finding it difficult to do 'certain' patterns with the single Bass Drum. At first I found the slave pedal to be hard to adjust. It was too 'soft'. I wanted more resistance. After playing around a bit, I got that fixed.

I broke my Tibia, and potential ACL on my right knee, just hours before a gig. While I did play the gig - because the show must go on - I took less equipment that night. Still, I needed the Bass Drum. No way to go without it. I also teach, and if I have an operation I may not be able to play the right pedal at all for months. This should work fine to keep me teaching and gigging with my 'opposite' foot.

Sure, I have been playing just a single Bass Drum for almost 30 years. Sure it is a challenge to incorporate the second foot. (I still don't have the foot paradiddle down!) However, I am learning to play super cool beats and am looking forward to the expansion of my repertoire as I continue to improve.

Now if I can just get by without that surgery...

Excellent product. I recommend it highly.

Comments about Axis Longboard A Double Bass Drum Pedal:

This pedal is pretty sweet, i bought it online and could not wait to get this pedal. After what felt like years, this pedal came and it was stunning. The u joints have ZERO play in them. Also, the U joints are huge and are way better than any other U-joints on the market today. The pedal is adjustable and can suit lots of styles by adjusting the feel of the pedal with the variable drive lever, which changes the feel of the pedal from light to medium or heavy (i like it in the middle along with most owners of these pedals). The pedals are also super responsive and keep up with your feet while playing fast speeds. i played some songs where i just could not generate enough speed with my old Mapex 500s but when in got these,m i had no problem keeping up. Axis thought ahead on these pedals and put 6 pieces of velcro on the bottom of each pedal.Once you put these pedals on carpet, you feel like you're going to rip up the carpet in the process in taking the pedals off the carpet. The only bad thing about these pedals are the adjustments with allen keys. When i tried to put on the felt pieces on the beaters, one of the adhesive pieces came off and i was forced to use the plastic or cork surfaces. These beaters are also really hard to set them to hit the bass drum flat on because the nut comes undone and the head of the beater moves around because it is so sensitive . Also, to make some minor adjustments on the pedal (U joint Length etc) you have to use different sized allen keys to make the adjustment which is pretty annoying but is a minor problem. In conclusion, i would totally buy these pedals. They will last you a long time due to the solid aluminum construction on the pedal. I would HIGHLY recumbent these pedals who is willing to spend a lot of money for a good quality pedal.

Comments about Axis Longboard A Double Bass Drum Pedal:

Such an amazing smooth, fine, controllable pedal. Perfect for the genres I excel in and even for pretty much any purpose -- I use them for every genre I come across. But keep in mind, do NOT have anything on your bass drum batter besides a simple impact patch. If you have something like Gibraltar's click pads or basically anything thicker than a simple clear impact patch, your bass drum will become terribly quiet (This is with the sonic hammer beaters. The regular Axis beaters are okay with the other patches like the click pad). Besides that, I love EVERYTHING about this pedal and would recommend it above all. Also, if you are coming from a chain drive, be prepared to not hit as hard, as it is far more sensitive, but this is not a down side. It took me a day to get used to and now it's perfect! (Owned for about 2 months)

          A Terrific Double Pedal!

          By TIM

Comments about Axis Longboard A Double Bass Drum Pedal:

As a midlife change for me, no red Porche, I love my wife of 35 yrs, the list things that ache seems to grow, but I've had a good year at work, so am treating myself to the second drum kit of my life. Am testing my friend's rack mounted Tama Starclassic B/B 5 pc kit with wood-rimmed S.L.P. snare as he recovers with a new knee. My first purchase was this dbl kick pedal 2 wks ago. Great versatility, both pedals VERY reactive, so lightweight, long footboards, supports all styles of play. Have been rehearsing with one for 2.5 years, so decided to buy one. Once over the sticker shock (I CAN afford it!), I am pleased with this first piece of hardware. Over time, I will adjust it with the multiple fine tune subtle options that are there. Jimbo at the Brea store was real helpful, great website for Guitar Ctr, free shpg to my store, nice discounts got it into (the high end of) my range. Am VERY happy with this purchase.

If you have the money, try them, and then buy them.

Comments about Axis Longboard A Double Bass Drum Pedal:

So, I've had this pedal for about 3 years, and just today switched out the beaters, making me feel like I have enough of a grasp to finally review these. Axis' AL-2 Longboards are something special indeed. They are highly adjustable (but a tad of a pain in the butt to adjust). My advice would be to take them out of the box, and throw the Sonic Hammers away. It is a very cool design, and a good idea, but in practice, they aren't what they're supposed to be. Do yourself a favor and get some Iron Cobra beaters. They're the perfect match.Anyway, back to the pedal itself. The quality of these pedals are amazing. I've seen some rust on the drive shaft and some of the screws (It's Nashville, ALWAYS 110% humidity), but nothing too major. The driveshaft itself has no give whatsoever. This gives the slave pedal the exact amount of responsiveness as the master, and all the power. It's extremely sturdy, and I'm extremely impressed with it. The extended footboard is great (first set of longboards I have owned), and will accomidate pretty much any sized foot. This helps when finding the sweet spot, if you're playing super crazy 3000 bpm double bass (It's totally possible with these). They're definitely speed demons, but are also very nice at slower tempos too. I'm tired of people saying that these "hit like feathers" or are "only good if you're triggering". I play acoustic, and after switching the beaters out, I'm fairly sure I could punch through my BD head if I tried hard enough. If you're looking at them seriously, and have the money, try them out, and decide for yourself.TL;DR: Great quality. Hard to adjust (but will stay in place once you do). Good at all tempos. Hard hitter. Throw away Sonic Hammer.

Comments about Axis Longboard A Double Bass Drum Pedal:

There are alot of reviews talking about how these pedals are uncontrolled or heavy and only suit heavy drumming. I play with a jazz ensemble as well as a rock band and a funk fusion group. these are the most controlled amazing pedals i have ever laid my feet on. even for jazz. where ever my foot goes the pedal goes with it. I have played both Pearl Demon Drives and Trick pedals. these are far far far better. yes being new pedals and being lighter than almost any other. it will take time to get used to them and learn how to control them like all new gear. but i would never recommend any other pedal after these!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

Comments about Axis Longboard A Double Bass Drum Pedal:

to be honest. the pedals are WAY overhyped. I used these pedals for about a month and they were not special. yes the hardware is nice, and heavy duty and they are sleek, but a few huge drawbacks. adjusting them was a real hastle, they really didn't improve speed very much, if you arent using triggers these are useless, because you will lose your volume by putting your foot onto the "long board" area if you are reaching over 280 bpm. I gladly went back to my DW 9000s and am very happy I did, might not be longboards but they ROCK! really it's all a matter of preference/play style in the end.

          Best Longboards I've Ever Used

          By Keith Horvath

          from AZ/traveling musician

Comments about Axis Longboard A Double Bass Drum Pedal:

These pedals are absolutely fantastic. Whether you plan on running fast, playing a slower paced bass beat or using heal-toe. Like most people I started off using the standard length boards but I didn't particularly like them. Trying to do a double bass triplet on standards are very hard especially if you have big feet. I wear a size 13 and my entire foot can rest on them which makes putting that triplet in there so much easier. That or if you want to do a 16th note double hit there is no easier way than a heal-toe role which they make doing so simple. In fact these are so responsive you don't even need to lift your foot off the pedal at all to achieve it, they nearly play themselves. They are also extremely durable, well put together and have an infinite amount of ways to set them. I've used them for 2 years and I am completely satisfied their performance. Never even needed to readjust them or maintain them. However, if you have used standards for a long time or have never tried long boards before it will take a while to get used to them because they have such a light feeling. But every drummer I have let tried them out always had a expletive deleted eating grin on their face during and afterwards. There are only two down sides to these pedals. First, the length of beater rod sticking out of the back can AND will hit the top of your foot. I had to trim the length down about 2 inches to keep it from slamming into my foot during rebound. Second, the slave pedal shape is the same as the master. Meaning the master pedal board designed for a right foot is the same direction for the left which can be a little awkward. Last thing, aircraft grade aluminum is a gimmick so don't let that ignorant statements sway your purchase. All aluminum is aircraft grade. Even a soda can is, it's called sales pitch. Bottom line, worth every penny and you won't regret the purchase.
