Soooo Good

By RipThorn

from WA

Comments about Audix D-6 Sub Impulse Kick Microphone - Brushed Aluminum Special Edition:

This mic is so sweet for a kick drum. It gets the thump that other dynamics can't quite capture because of its design. The machined aluminum housing looks cool and is rugged for years of (ab)use. No other mic I have used has the same impact, sonic or visual, as the D6

Works well, and can work even better.

By Armando Lopez

from Laredo, TX

Comments about Audix D-6 Sub Impulse Kick Microphone - Brushed Aluminum Special Edition:

This is a really nice mic, very appropriate for the kick drum. It's best for that and floor toms; doesn't work too well with bass cabs in my experience. Also in my experience, it works best when inserted into the bass drum, rather than outside. Good thump, very nice low end. I just wish there were more attack on it, kinda like a modern rock/metal kick. It's still, however, a very, very good product.

Outstanding, My new standard

By Alex

from Washington, D.C.

Comments about Audix D-6 Sub Impulse Kick Microphone - Brushed Aluminum Special Edition:

I absolutely love this mic. I use it in a club setting nearly every night and I have absolutely no complaints. Even with people who don't cut holes in their resonant heads like they should, I can still get the ultra clicky sound while still maintaining the kick-in-the-chest low end I'm after.

Just quit looking!

By Medic13

from Jensen Beach, Florida

Comments about Audix D-6 Sub Impulse Kick Microphone - Brushed Aluminum Special Edition:

I've used a few other Kick drum mics over time. I read reviews and listen to what other drummers use. I walk up and look and even ask the drummers what they are using. Curious I guess....The pros are endorsed so I don't really pay much attention to what they say. No disrespect! Most recording magazines or live sound mags float between the Shure Beta 52 and the Audix D6. It's all about what you are looking for. I've found that setting EQ with the Audix is easier. I'm a "less is more" kind of person. I really dont have to touch a dial on my board for the D6. With the addition of the new "Kickport" for bass drums and the D6, set just even with the front drumhead, it is the easiest drum to set up in either recording or a live show. It works equally as well with a full drumhead on the front. Just quit looking and buy it. You will be happy you did.

Nice kick

By Charles Mizikar

from Portage, MI

Comments about Audix D-6 Sub Impulse Kick Microphone - Brushed Aluminum Special Edition:

This microphone gives you a nice thud when the kick it hit. This mic works best when stuck inside the kick drum and isolates really nicely. I love this mic and wouldn't use any other.

Video and Written Reviews Just Aren't Enough!

By Brian Kieffer

from Ohio

Comments about Audix D-6 Sub Impulse Kick Microphone - Brushed Aluminum Special Edition:

It really blew me away how easy it was to EQ. I was able to get an amazing low end tone with the right amount decay at the end. Great kick/thud sound. My bass drum is ported and muffled. Secondly, Is it worth $200? In my opinion, Yes. I've tried it on a 21" kick, 16" & 14" tom and a 12" x 24" djembe.. all applications ended with the same result..me happy with the sound. O ya..It looks sweet.

For the Bass Players Out There

By Ian

from New York

Comments about Audix D-6 Sub Impulse Kick Microphone - Brushed Aluminum Special Edition:

This mic gets a lot of drummer love, but I never really see a review for bass players. This mic is perfect for bass cabs or combos. I usually use my direct out on the amp to go to the board, but when you add this mic into the mix you get amazing results. Amazing clarity adding a huge volume boost and extremely ruggedly built. I strongly recommend adding this mic to your arsenal for any touring bass player and even bass players playing small shows a couple times a month. Epicly great microphone. A must have!

Excellent mic for kick drum and bass cabs. The bass response was better than expected. Micng a bass cab with a 57 and this mic is perfection.

Comments about Audix D-6 Sub Impulse Kick Microphone - Brushed Aluminum Special Edition:

I recently bought a Audix D6, after trying out a friends D6 on the port side of my cajon drum. It captures the low frequencies well and leaves out the boomy mid bass that my budget bass drum mic would have. I then used the D6 through the 5 " hole of the front head on my 20" kick drum with a towel inside to get a tight ,full kick sound through my p.a. system.

Comments about Audix D-6 Sub Impulse Kick Microphone - Brushed Aluminum Special Edition:

This one mic is what made me go Audix exclusively. I've gone from AKG to Sennheiser and beyond. I've done a lot of sound for film and video. I know through experience what they can do and can't do for my drumming. I can afford any mic system many times over. I've settled for the Audix because they seem pretty much to me 'custom made for drums and percussion'. I run my 9-piece Yamaha Maple Custom Absolute on Audix D-1s on the smaller toms and snare, D-2s on the mid-size toms, D-4s on the floor toms and the D-6 on the Bass drum and another on the Gong drum. Each drum on a mic. I run two Hi-hats with an Audix AD-15 each, and two additional AD-15s as overheads. All mics run to a Soundcraft MFX-16 board. In my living room (yes, that's where I record) I pretty much record what I hear without EQing. A little de-essing on the snare and that's it! The roll-offs on the AD-15s are outstanding and the D-6 is killer. The D-6 is pretty much 'Plug and Play'. The SPL on Audix is the real deal! They can take the most brutal audio punishment and still sing gracefully another day. I've had other brands give up the ghost on less! I will even use a D-6 on an electric/acoustic bass guitar,Baritone or Bass Sax, it's that good. I used a D-1 on a trumpet and it was total cake. Don't waste your money on anything other than the D-6.
