Overview

The Audio-Technica PRO 35 clip-on microphone is designed for sax, brass, toms, and percussion. The PRO35 is a cardioid condenser mic that excels in high-SPL (sound pressure level) applications and is ideal for active stage performances. Its extended frequency response captures subtle nuances of the performance. The included UniMount clip permits accurate positioning and provides shock resistance while protecting the element. The microphone's cardioid polar pattern reduces pickup of sounds from the sides and rear, improving isolation of the desired sound source.

The A-T PRO 35 includes the AT8538 power module, which accepts the PRO 35's locking cable connector and terminates to an XLR male connector for a wired connection to a mixing console etc.

(If you're looking for a wireless solution, the A-T PRO 35cW terminates to a 4-pin connector for use with A-T UniPak bodypack wireless transmitters.)

Requires phantom power.

Great Mic

By Horn Player

from Pittsburgh

Comments about Audio-Technica PRO 35 Cardioid Condenser Clip-On Instrument Microphone:

My three piece horn section (trumpet, trombone, soprano/alto/tenor sax) uses these mics along with A-T wireless rigs in numerous gigs. You can't beat this mic for horns! We are able to wander all over the venue playing which gets a great crowd response. The ruggedness and sound quality of this mic is unbeatable. I have also used this mic in a church setting playing classical trumpet pieces. It has NEVER let me down.

great mic does what others cant

By bob

Comments about Audio-Technica PRO 35 Cardioid Condenser Clip-On Instrument Microphone:

this little mic is great for accoustic instruments and belive it or not it sounds great on a banjo and a mandolin it really keeps the accoustic sounds but doesnt take away the highs or lows. the only thing that keeps this mic from being better is that it doesnt have other types of clips for it but if you get it you be surpised at how good it works in many different situations and instruments

Great Sound for the Price

By Everett

from Northern, VA

Comments about Audio-Technica PRO 35 Cardioid Condenser Clip-On Instrument Microphone:

I was a little skeptical about this mic at first for a saxophone being that its fairly cheap, but I was pleasantly suprised by its response to my sound. I very rarely have gotten a true sound with many different mics, but mixed correctly this thing is amazing. You'll need to turn down the lows so you do not get distortion in the lower notes (common with most clip on mics) and same thing with the high so it does sound like a whine. Used this on soprano sax playing for a wedding (Hooked up to a JBL PA Speaker) and use it at church every sunday on Tenor and Soprano. Each horn needs to be mixed differently so don't expect to switch back and forth alot unless your sound guy is awesome or you're working your own sound. You get some key noise, but not enough to ruin a sound or any performance. All in all, this was a great purchase and I would recommend as one of the best cheaper solutions for a sax mic.

Comments about Audio-Technica PRO 35 Cardioid Condenser Clip-On Instrument Microphone:

I have used this for years and overall I love it. However, the jack is so big in comparison to the wire that the wire inside the insulation breaks often right near the jack. I have had to have it fixed fairly often by clipping the wire a little shorter each time. Suggestions? Install a clip on the jack so it can be clipped to pants or a back pocket or something - instead of just hanging onto the floor or bunched up in a pocket. The wires break very easily.

I have used the PRO35 for five years now. I've played with it in both large and small venue with great results.
I have the hard wired and the cordless. Both sound great. Sound is a little thin on the palm keys on my Soprano. I highly recommend this mic.

          Great Mic!

          By John Scammon

          from Scottsdale, AZ

Comments about Audio-Technica PRO 35 Cardioid Condenser Clip-On Instrument Microphone:

I've been looking for an amplification solution for Dobro for several months and have tried various pickups and mics. I looked at several clip-on mics (both condenser and dynamic. The Audio Technica was the best I tried. I'm running it through a Sterling Audio PHP1 phantom power supply (also from Guitar Center) and then into a DI Max two-channel preamp from UltraSound. The mic sounds great straight into my amp (Fishman LaudBox)but sounds even a lot better through the preamp. I've also used the mic in combination with a Barcus Berry external pickup (like the old Hot Dot pickups). the combination of the mic and pickup through the preamp gives me a ton of volume without feedback and reproduces the natural sound of the Dobro very well.

Comments about Audio-Technica PRO 35 Cardioid Condenser Clip-On Instrument Microphone:

I am an experience acoustic instrument player in my 70's. I purchased this clip-on mic to use in performances with a band. I attached the mic to the struts that hold the resonator to the back of the banjo and placed the mic itself at an opening of the resonator. It produced good sound and I would use it again for that purpose, but only if I had to play several songs in a set with the banjo. It isn't easy to change from an acoustic guitar to the banjo with this mic attached. The cord to the mic is very thin while the attachment to the amp (or connecting cord) is quite heavy. Difficult to make the change easily. Otherwise, as advertised.

Comments about Audio-Technica PRO 35 Cardioid Condenser Clip-On Instrument Microphone:

I bought one of these 15 years ago for my upright bass. I lost it in a move a few years ago, and when I started gigging again, I knew the best option was to get another one! For my funky mando-bass, it does a fantastic job of picking up the entire range. I've never had issues with it distorting, or even feeding back. The rejection of the cardioid pattern works really well, even with wedge floor monitors. The clip attaches seamlessly to my bass and saves me from the classic acoustic bass battle of trying not to wiggle away from a mic on a stand or avoid hitting it. More than one soundman has told me "Whatever you do - don't get rid of that bass or mic."
