Overview

The Audio-Technica ATW-252 Freeway VHF Wireless Microphone System is designed to provide reliable performance, easy setup and clear, natural sound quality. The Freeway VHF Wireless System from the 200 series includes the ATW-R250 receiver, and the ATW-T202 handheld microphone/transmitter. A novel dipole antenna system on the receiver improves operation by providing a ground element in addition to the usual signal element.

ATW-R250 receiver

The ATW-R250 receiver includes a space-saving switching power supply that automatically adapts to changes in mains voltage. Unlike bulky linear power supplies, this switching power supply is lightweight and compact; it uses only a single outlet space.

ATW-T202 Handheld transmitter

The ATW-T202 handheld transmitter features a unidirectional dynamic microphone element. The ATW-202 handheld transmitter uses internal 9-volt battery and has an Off/Standby/On switch, input Trim (level) adjustment and battery-save switch.

Consumer Alert:

Most users do not need a license to operate this wireless microphone system. Nevertheless, operating this microphone system without a license is subject to certain restrictions: the system may not cause harmful interference; it must operate at a low power level (not in excess of 50 milliwatts); and it has no protection from interference received from any other device. Purchasers should also be aware that the FCC is currently evaluating use of wireless microphone systems, and these rules are subject to change. For more information, call the FCC at 1-888-CALL-FCC (TTY: 1-888-TELL-FCC) or visit the FCCs wireless microphone website at: www.fcc.gov/cgb/wirelessmicrophones.

Do not use this for anything important!

By Jeff Dillard

from Frierson, LA

Comments about Audio-Technica ATW-252 200 Series Freeway VHF Handheld Wireless System:

Needed a 2nd wireless mic for an important church event. I knew better when I saw the price on this unit but because of the brand I bought it anyway. The mic only had to operate for a couple of hours at a range of 20 feet max so I figured, "Why not save some money?". This mic passed a 20 minute test run and made it though a mic check. Then during the event, it lasted all of 30 minutes and failed right at the worst possible time. I took a stupid chance and it bit me hard! Don't make the same mistake I did. Ignore the brand name on this as it is not up to par as other equipment manufactured by Audio-Technica. I should have known better the second I took it out of the box. It felt cheaply made just holding it feeling more like a child's toy more than anything. The sensitivity on the mic itself was already turned up about 90% right out of the box and adjusting it was "twitchy" at best. Bottom line: You get what you pay for. You know better. You've been warned.

So much Interference

By GERALD MARSH

from Scranton, PA

Comments about Audio-Technica ATW-252 200 Series Freeway VHF Handheld Wireless System:

I bought this mic system because the sale seemed like a pretty good deal. $80 for the whole package? You pay $100 just for a receiver alone without the sale price. I was very impressed with the range and sound quality at my first try. The mic sounded like a wired SM48 and the range was very good, however, the trouble all began when i turned the mic off. As soon as I turned off the mic, a LOUD static noise came from the receiver and would not stop until i turned the mic back on. It sounded terrible, and definitely would have ruined any show. DO NOT USE THIS MICROPHONE UNLESS you are going to use it as a permanent installment where you know that the microphone will not be turned off until the receiver is silenced. ALSO BEWARE THAT VHF MICROPHONES DO NOT WORK WELL AROUND STRONG WIFI SIGNALS.

Comments about Audio-Technica ATW-252 200 Series Freeway VHF Handheld Wireless System:

I was just DJing a school dance with this Mic last night and it completely ruined the show. As soon as I plugged in my lighting setup a loud noise rang through my speakers and wouldn't stop until I plugged them in some where else. About an hour later my system started doing it again I I came to find out when I unplugged my Mic it stopped. Do not recommend this Mic!

Comments about Audio-Technica ATW-252 200 Series Freeway VHF Handheld Wireless System:

I just bought 3 of these mics for my Praise and Worship team and we have used them once and I enjoy the sound from them, now if I can just get them in that sweet spot so there are no drops I think all will be well. Overall I like the sound and the response from the mic as well as the housing of the mic itself(makes it more rugged). I just have to have a couple of questions answered and I think I will be golden. I also own several Shure mics and a couple of Sennheiser mics and the AT mics sound just as good. Good job guys.

          Great Wireless Handheld System

          By Jeff Oefelein

          from Goose Creek, SC

Comments about Audio-Technica ATW-252 200 Series Freeway VHF Handheld Wireless System:

I was reluctant to purchase a lower priced handheld wireless system as they never perform. The first time I hooked up the ATW-252 system, it sounded great and had good range with no hissing or drop outs. The noise handling of the mic is fairly low and I was really impressed. I will definately recommend this to anyone looking for a decent wireless without breaking the bank.
