Definitely a great, rich sounding, well balanced and detailed microphone for vocals and acoustic guitar. It's transformer coupled output instead of solid state. I've done AB tests with the TLM 103 and U87. The AT4047 sounded wonderful on vocals (male and female vocalists) and beat the TLM103 on vocals and acoustic guitar. I found the U87 to be about even on vocals. Both the tlm103 and U87 sounded a bit too bright at about 10 khz. All comparisons were done using An Avalon VT737. The AT4047 his not a hyped up mic in the treble range. It's quite flat and has a small peak at 5khz at about 2 db. It's very smoothe and sounds great !!

Microphone was fine for awhile. Now recently it has stopped picking up frequencies above 600-800 Hz.

In the attached image you can see the spectrum for a voice clip I recorded. (Played back in foobar2000)

It sounds extremely muffled, like I'm speaking through a door.

Hoping AT will stand behind their warranty.

Comments about Audio-Technica AT4047 Condenser Microphone:

After buying this product to my dismay I found that while it worked on my laptop running Windows 7, Windows 8 could not find a driver for it. I am extremely dissatisfied with this as I was planning on mainly using the mic with my desktop.

    looks and charm

    By Bo Osborn

    from KC, MO

Comments about Audio-Technica AT4047 Condenser Microphone:

This mic is awesome. I bought it to change up my constant use of the NT1-A. In comparison to that, it's more substantial in lower registers, like male (even female) vocals. In no way is it harsh. Great on acoustic guitars. It's less pronounced in upper registers, perhaps it's a slower transient response (than the Rode)... which the 4047 really requires a good preamp to bring out the presence. The mic is sincere and sounds rich and its detail is unprecedented.

Comments about Audio-Technica AT4047 Condenser Microphone:

For $100, this is an excellent microphone. It doesn't have as many features as the $300-$600 ones though. I have used this microphone for almost 2 years. I use this is a YouTube recording studio setup, and it does everything I need it to. It works with Windows and Mac very cleanly. All I had to do was plug it in, enable it in the settings, and it worked great. There is no static in the background of the audio. Great microphone and audio quality. I highly recommend this mic.

The mic is very sensitive to clicks and taps on a desk, so I use a microphone stand and pop filter to keep it from picking up on every mouse and keyboard click.

Comments about Audio-Technica AT4047 Condenser Microphone:

The Pros here really don't outweigh the cons. This product has poor durability, so bad that I think the one that I bought was manufactured improperly. I'm not exaggerating when I say that after 4 months of light usage, the stand provided with the microphone literally broke at every joint. When I opened it up, I was confused as to why the setup didn't work properly, but then I realized that the grooves inside the base of the microphone weren't cut deep enough to screw into stand, so it had to be balanced very precariously on my desk whenever I used it. The flickering blue light is a bit irritating, and was inconsistent when recognizing whether or not the device was functioning at any given time. The USB 2.0 type B port in the base that was used to connect microphone to the cable ended up putting the mic out of usage when the prongs in the port ended up bending after being plugged in. I got the port repaired, but unfortunately, now no device will even recognize the microphone as a microphone. The Microphone promised limited interference, but the only way to prevent it from being overwhelmingly present in my recordings was to put a stocking over the Mic, or to use a pop screen. The sound quality is generally good, but I could easily find it in another product for cheaper. It was easy enough to use, but what with all the problems I encountered, I wouldn't even recommend this product to someone new to recording.

Comments about Audio-Technica AT4047 Condenser Microphone:

Bought the mic over a year ago but didn't use it until earlier this summer for voiceover and other recording. The mic is easy to use and is easily recognizable by my Mac. The headphone connection is very helpful. I love it.
The stand, though, is not good. The thread stripped far too easily and I'm trying to find a way to replace it. I don't love it. At all.

This would have been a five star review if the stand hadn't failed.
