I use the microphone for recording voice for video, podcasts, etc., and it has been working well for about 6 months or so. It works well into a Mac running MacOS 10.11, simply appearing in the Control Panel. I use a wind cover and a spit shield, and tend to deploy it on a floor stand to get the height right. For me, the included desk stand is too low. I have had no problems with the USB connection, which is the only one I use.

I do use a bit of bass boost on the final product, and you do need it to be quite close to get good volume; about a fist length away, so try to restrict your gesticulations!

Overall, good value for money.

USB Dead After Three Uses

It sounded good while it worked but died after just a few uses. Seems to be an issue with the USB port as I have tried multiple cables to no avail.

I bought this product for my Tutorial recordings. I ordered it from US, as it was not available in stock in india. I got it after long wait.

In only two to three uses, the USB no longer works. Its detects the microphone etc. But no sound at all while recorrding.

I searched for drivers, but no drivers or updated drivers on net anyhere. On this website also no drivers at all. I tried on windows 8, windows 10 and Mac Book Pro with Mac OS X

    USB feature unreliable/broken

Comments about Audio-Technica AE4100 Cardioid Dynamic Microphone:

I bought three of the ATR2100-usb mics in March 2014 for light usage (podcast recording). When I use the XLR output and go through a mixing board, these mics work fine; great tone, noise free, etc.

The problem I have is when using the USB connection. For the first six months of very occasional use (twice monthly for up to 20 minutes), the mic worked fine. But no more.

First one mic became unusable on my Windows 7 laptop, displaying the error "usb device not recognized". The other mics worked fine, until today when mic #2 "broke".

(I subsequently tried the "broken" mics on my mac, same result.)

Now I'm left with only one of the original three mics able to be used via the USB connection to the laptop.

At this time I cannot recommend the ATR2100-USB.

        Best Uses

Comments about Audio-Technica AE4100 Cardioid Dynamic Microphone:

          Positives:

          - Microphone has 3.5mm jack allowing you to monitor with 0 latency - great function

          - Design is sleek, simple and made of metal, feels heavy and of quality

          - Sound quality is great, the range may not be that wide (50-15 000 Hz) but is ample at an amateur / hobby level

          - Overall great value, comes with a stand, zero latency is great function, price is good.

          Negatives:

          - Some cheapo carrying pouch / case would have been nice

          - Have heard of quality issues with the USB / Headphone jack such as breaking. Could be resolved if you minimise the number of unnecessary insertion / removal of USB / headphone cable

          Good for:

          - Amateur / hobby singers recording covers

          - Podcaster / Youtube / Voice over

          - Value for money

          - Upgrade from cheapo PC mic / inbuilt microphones

Comments about Audio-Technica AE4100 Cardioid Dynamic Microphone:

I bought this microphone after reading very positive reviews on some voiceover sites. They compared it very favorably to the Hyle PR40. So, it was an instant sell.
It sounds, in my opinion, better than a Shure sm57 and it can do the same jobs.
              It feels solid!
It works GREAT for recording in Reaper.
I am very happy with the mic. I liked it a lot more when I bought it for under $40. but at it's current price, it's still a good product.

This mic has lasted me for 2 years with no problems. The audio quality is very good but the audio is not the absolute best because it is very good for the price. I use this for commentary and for singing and I have had no problems. The only thing I would have to say about it is that you have to be fairly close to it to get good volume. Also, it is a bit bass-y from my experiences but it should be fine as it isn't too bad.

Comments about Audio-Technica AE4100 Cardioid Dynamic Microphone:

Used for over a year with no issues. Mostly use for web conferences. Voice quality is high. Not sure what it's frequency range is as I use mainly for voice.

Others reviews say USB failed but I haven't had this issue. If USB failed after 3 uses, probably a manufacture defect. I would return and then write a review.
