  • Good Headphones

As reviewed by Smitty265 on 10/31/2006

I have used a pair of these Audio Technica ATH-M40fs headphones in my project studio for about four years now. They have an extremely flat response curve and I find that I can get a mix in the ballpark using these and then use nearfields for final tweaks and adjustments. I also use them for tracking and find that they work well as an all-around headphone set in the studio. The cables are truly field replaceable. I have stepped on the cable two different times while moving quickly around my studio in such a way that the cord received an extremely sudden tug that would have broken any cable. On both occasions I called Audio Technica and for a relatively nominal fee they sent me replacement cables that were easy to install. I would recommend these to anyone looking for a mid-level pair of all-around studio headphones.

  • I love these cans!!

As reviewed by Ray Merriman on 4/30/2010

I've been recording for over 30 years, and these are, by far, the best flat/monitor, headphones for the price. I often use these for final mixes. Then take it to the monitors. The phones are surprisingly close. And, they are nice and punchy if you like, with very little, if not at all, noticeable distortion at every level.

  • Seriously, why wouldn't you get these?

As reviewed by Robert B. on 4/25/2009

These aren't the best headphones I've ever worn, but for that price they're the best go-to 'phones I've ever owned. For nuanced, detailed collaborative work where playing over the monitors is not an option, it's good to have a pair of these (or two) on hand.
