Audio-Technica has a long history of producing world-class microphones, and the 40 Series is no exception. These mics are decidedly professional-grade, with designs that focus on consistency, strong performance and the reliability required to stand up to a demanding studio environment. They also put each one through a rigorous inspection before it leaves the factory, so you can count on Audio-Technica 40 Series microphones to live up to the hype. Plenty of the industry's top musicians, engineers and producers have won awards with work recorded on a 40 Series mic, and there's no time like the present to hop on the bandwagon.

Starting out the lineup is the Audio-Technica AT4033CL Large Diaphragm Condenser Microphone, and right out of the gate, we're already on to something special. It's a cardioid mic with a frequency response of 30-20,000Hz, but the electronics are where things really get interesting: the AT4033CL uses transformerless circuitry, which prevents low-frequency distortion while picking up high-speed transients with ease. It also includes a shockmount bundled in the box, so you'll be ready to put it in service the moment it arrives at your door.

At the upper end of the 40 Series, you'll find the Audio-Technica AT4050ST Stereo Condenser Microphone. This model is built around independent cardioid and figure-8 elements, with switchable matrixing allowing you to customize the angle of sound assigned to each stereo channel. The AT4050ST is designed to meet all the demands of professional broadcast, live sound reinforcement and recording applications, with support for external matrix mixers in addition to its internal matrixed stereo modes.

Whether you opt for the straightforward performance of the AT4033CL, the stereo functionality of the AT4050ST, or any of the other models between these two in the lineup, you can't go wrong with Audio-Technica 40 Series microphones. All it takes to choose the best option is to look at the specs for each mic and go with the one that best matches your studio or audio system's needs. With as many models as they have to choose from, that won't be hard to find!
