I bought these heads for the value & for really digging Terry Bozzio. I found the quality & sound to be sensational. Very bright & responsive while making my snare sound great. A super deal on very well made heads. Rock On!!!
I built a snare recently and wanted both heads to be new, and I wanted to try something a little different for a chance to see how much effect a different head would have on the sound. This pack has a little heavier heads than Remo's Ambassador, which is what I normally use top and bottom. And the steel vs. aluminum hoop rings do seem like they would be more stable. I can't really tell in the sound, but the logic seems good. I personally don't like the heft of Remo's Emporer heads or the different versions of the center dot that is supposed to focus the sound. They just sound too thick and dead to me. These seem to fall in between and that's what I was hoping for. Too, I'm always curious to read any professional drum tech's ideas on tuning, and the guide comes free with the pack. And best of all you can't get two other heads for this price. Get it.
