  • Surprisingly good drumheads!

As reviewed by alex van drummer on 10/16/2006

It's difficult to imagine that 5 drumheads for 30 dollars could possibly sound good, but in my opinion, the Attack 5 pack drumheads not only sound good but are as good if not better than some other top brands that are much more expensive. I have been buying the Attack prepacks for several years now and never had any problems with them. Starting with the 1 ply medium coated snare head, it has a deeper, crisper tone than the overated Remo ambassador. The ambassador has been around since caveman days and is probably the most popular snare drumhead but that doesn't mean it's the best. The Attack snare batter head is similar to an Aquarian satin textured coated head, the only exception is the coating will wear off quicker than an Aquarian, but so does an ambassador. It can be tuned hi or low and it does the job well. The tom heads are probably the weakest of the bunch. They are decent singly ply heads that have a good open tone, but not great. They have always been durable enough for me to last at least a few months but heavy hitters might have to replace them after a few weeks. The no overtone bass drum head is similar to a Remo powerstroke 3 or an Evans EQ4 and just as good. It produces a clean, punchy, deep tone without excess ring, but it's still best to use some type of muffling, whether it be a muffle ring or a pillow to keep the bass drum sounding too boomy. The powerstroke 3 and Evans EQ4 bass drum heads cost around 30 dollars each so getting 5 drumheads for 30 dollars that sound good and can last awhile is a fantastic deal.
