Written in 1953, this viola and cello duet bears the identical title of another Piston piece written in 1972 for cello and piano. Born in 1894, Piston was influenced by Ravel and Stravinsky, taught at Harvard and his students included Bernstein and Carter. He was awarded the Pulitzer twice.
