You can manage a full performance controlling software instruments, analog and digital synthesizers, drum machines and drum kits, and iPad apps from the BeatStep Pro. The melodic sequencers offer up to 64 steps per sequence, 16 sequences per project and 16 projects, making them aomg some of the best step sequencers ever made. The additional drum sequencer allows for 16 separate tracks of sequencing. Record in real-time via the pads or use the step buttons for a classic drum machine workflow.

Performance Maestro
As if all this were not enough, There's also a number of performance effects added such as a looper with touch strip, randomizer, swing settings and other hands on control possibilities that are sure to make this a modern classic.

Take control
The controller mode allows you to trigger clips in your favorite DAW, play drum sounds in a module or adjust parameters in your favorite plug-in. The possibilities are only limited by your imagination.

Comments about Arturia BeatStep Pro Controller & Sequencer:

It took me about five hours of reading and tweaking inside the MCC (MIDI Control Program) to get the BSP at the center of my hardware only rig but it ended up very worth it.

If you are looking to go hardware only sequencing of synths and a drum machine for live minimal gigs there simply isn't anything out there like this. I took to this thing like a fish to water and it has changed how I approach beat and sequence creation that allowed me to realize in my music what I had been seeking for a decade. Full live sequencing of analog hardware without a lap top.I control two analog synths one a mono the other poly and an analog drum machine with an additional kick drum only synth. I replaced my Electribe ESX and am not looking back (as much as I loved the ESX, it is getting to be too precious to drag around to gigs)

    You can't save song patterns

Comments about Arturia BeatStep Pro Controller & Sequencer:

Some powerful features and some severe limitations. It is most important that you understand you cannot save chains of patterns into a song for playback. You can save short patterns and manually trigger them but there is no ability to save the patterns. I feel ripped off and would not have purchased had I understood this limitation. Also, the instructions are terrible or non-existent. The firmware update was flawed and I had to search for the work-around that ended up being to ignore an alert that tells you to restart the unit and hit the cancel button rather than follow the instructions in the alert. I don't know how they could mess that up.

I believe this is an excellent unit if you only want to do live playing hands on. If you want to use this as backing tracks while you perform on another synth or gear, it will not accommodate that use.

Also, not a big fan of the requirement to use adapters or "dongles" to connect to USB, MIDI or CV.

Not sure if I will find a use for this unit. Wanted to warn others that may be looking for a true pattern sequencer so you don't make the same mistake.

Comments about Arturia BeatStep Pro Controller & Sequencer:

I'm learning electric blues guitar and like to compose my own drum and bass backing tracks with the guitar handling chords and melody duties. As much as I love Ableton's power and flexibility as a DAW, the last thing I want to do after working on a computer all day is get back on the computer and mouse around for music.

I've used Korg Volcas and an H5 Zoom away from the computer, but the Volcas are not ideal for pulling together fixed, 12 bar progressions. The BeatStep Pro with the 1.3 Firmware Update handles this task with ease.

I haven't hooked up the Volcas yet. In Ableton, I have a DMX sampler with some effects for drums that I like and Monark (a fabulous Minimoog emulation) for bass duties. I set up a default Ableton project with all tracks armed and ready. I just start Ableton, close the lid on the laptop, and go. I can use the BeatStep Pro to compose complete backing tracks without looking at the screen or using a mouse. I also bought a Novation XL as dedicated surface for Monark. I'm in bliss. All the power of software, but the feeling of hardware.

        AMAZING BUT NOT FOR EVERYONE

        By mattjcrane

Comments about Arturia BeatStep Pro Controller & Sequencer:

I would recommend this product to people with a lot of gear but not as a first product if you are just starting out. It can control multiple synths at once through either midi, cv, or usb as well as some din sync type options. Ive used it to control beats on logic at the same time it triggers a midi keyboard of mine and i can also have it trigger some of my cv boards. It really is an amazing piece of gear but mainly for forward thinking musicians. Its not for everyone but I am thrilled and i honestly feel that this product is worth way more than they are charging. If you watch the videos from arturia you will see what this stuff is made of! If you are in the market for a great diverse sequencer i recommend this as well as the KORG SQ-1 which is also amazing and similar yet different. It cost a little less. I purposely got them both at once knowing they would be slightly different. Anyway I recommend this product highly to those who look into it and feel that it is for them. If you have synths without sequencers built in this is a must!

Comments about Arturia BeatStep Pro Controller & Sequencer:

Well built but notes do hang also when copying patterns you have to constantly save them or you loose them.. so if your creating variations of patterns to build a song you have to save everytime you switch between them or you loose them
overall I liked it but felt like it wasn't quite fleshed out completely
