Overview

The ART HeadAmp6 is a fully-featured, 6-channel stereo headphone amplifier that includes six auxiliary inputs to allow separate "more-me" mixes on each headphone channel. Each output channel has a dual function Balance Control which will pan between the left & right input of the main signal bus, or vary the mix between the main stereo signal bus and the auxiliary input for that respective channel.

Each output channel on the ART HeadAmp6 headphone amp includes one front- and two rear-panel stereo 1/4" TRS headphone jacks for ease of installation and quick patching capability. It has Mono, Mute L, and Mute R select buttons, and on each channel you can select between four operating modes-Stereo, Mono Left, Mono Right, and Mono Both (Left & Right)-for versatile monitoring solutions. Independent output level controls on each channel of the 6-channel headphone amp personalize monitoring levels.

The ART HeadAmp6's input options include XLR and 1/4-inch TRS balanced inputs with matching Thru jacks for bridging multiple headphone amps. An additional front-panel stereo 1/4" TRS Direct In jack for quick patch override of the rear panel inputs is included for quick insertion of any stereo source. Master Volume control sets the main signal bus level. The headphone amp's eight-segment precision LED level metering on the main bus and four-segment indicators on each output channel provide visual feedback of the signal level at all key points.

I haven't had any issues with noise on my amp. It's solid and does what I need it to do. It's great for overdubs for recording, and for late night jam sessions. I feed it from my mixer, so everyone comes in at the same mix levels and it works great that way. Seems solid enough, but I'm not taking my amp on the road. I never have the need to go beyond 6 headphones, so the additional inputs in the rear of the unit didn't mean much to me. In all, I'm satisfied with this purchase and it performs above its price point.

I bought this thinking it had 6 independent headphone amps in one rack space. It has 6 independent amps it's true but the input is global which means that everyone can control the volume independently but not the mix. There is a way to have independent mixes because there is an aux input on each channel, but they put it on the front panel. I suppose the idea is that the drummer could listen to a external click or something like that. What it means for my purpose, which is to send each member of the band an independent mix, is that I would have to run cables from my converter out to the front of the rack which would require more rack space and cables and look cluttered. So I'm checking out the Alto headphone amp.

I use this primarily as an amp for individual in ear monitors so the aux input is great to use with individual mix buses

Works fine, if you only want mono mixes

Comments about Art Headamp6 6-Channel Headphone Amplifier:

On the 2 samples I bought, the stereo image was canted ~15% to the right, when using either the XLR or Aux inputs. You can correct this by using the balance control, as long as you're not plugging a stereo input into the Aux input (because, then the balance knob controls the mix between Main and Aux inputs and not the L/R balance). Punching Mono centered the image perfectly. And it wasn't my mixer's output, because I plugged the headphone output (the image is centered when plugging headphones directly into the mixer) into Aux and the same thing happened. I returned both units and bought the ART HeadAmp 6 Pro, which worked perfectly. I would have preferred to have the Aux inputs on the front panel, but it was more important to have proper stereo imaging. I'm hoping for ART's sake that it was a problem with a specific batch of HeadAmp 6s, and not inherent in the circuitry. It's a fine unit otherwise.

This is a replacement for a Behringer headphone amp with noisy pots that could not be reached for cleaning. Many of our volunteer programmers don't pay enough attention to NOT put their headphone jacks into the Aux Inputs. I had to cover them with stickers.

This has been a great little system for us as a worship team that has to rent space and carry our sound equipment in and out. It ensures that we get the same sound in and out each weekend. We have only had to use the minimal capacity of this as our cheap version of in ear monitors but is exactly what we need.

Comments about Art Headamp6 6-Channel Headphone Amplifier:

The band needed to control the sound volume to protect our ears, but we couldn't afford wireless monitors. Originally, I bought a Live Wire HA04 4-Channel amp, but our band grew to 5 members, so I considered the Behringer HA-8000 and 7000 units, as well as the ART HeadAmp6. After reading all the reviews, I chose the ART HeadAmp6, and I has worked flawlessly for 2 1/2 months now. There are 6 channels available with 1 output for each channel on the front, and 2 more for each channel on the back. Each channel has it's own level, a mute button, and a stereo/mono button. Everything feels solid, it's very easy to dial in exactly what everyone needs in their ears, and it doesn't seem to color the sound that we hear, at all.

                Good quality and great value

                By Steve

                from Sammamish, WA

Comments about Art Headamp6 6-Channel Headphone Amplifier:

I considered both the HeadAmp6 and the HeadAmp6 Pro. I ultimately bought this one because it has its individual aux ins on the front instead of the back, which I consider handier for occasional "more me" mix requests. The Pro model has a few more meter segments as well as separate eq on each amp. Having eq sounds tempting, but I'm afraid that could just be a can of worms - it's enough of a challenge just getting levels and mixes right for each band member. I've had the HeadAmp6 for a couple weeks now and so far I'm lovin' it! Seems to have ample power to cleanly drive headphones to levels well beyond what any human would actually desire. My only quibble: The balance knob on channel 1 was mounted just a hair counter-clockwise so that when set at the center detent, the knob marking doeesn't perfectly align with the panel marking. I can live with it, but my OCD will ensure that I always notice this flaw every time I use it. Overall - good quality and great value for the $150 price!
