Comments about Art DJPre II Phono Preamp:

I confess that I don't own an ART DJPre II, but I want one! I've checked out a lot of current phono preamps, and this one seems to give the biggest bang for the buck. Performance specifications are excellent. For my vinyl conversion project, I went so far as to rebuild the phono section of a classic 1970s preamp to get the performance I wanted, but I could've saved a lot of time and effort by getting one of these! I don't know if any recording/conversion software comes with it, but you can get Audacity for free. I've also used Magix Audio Cleaning Lab software (not free), which does a remarkably good job of cleaning up and restoring sound from old records. BTW, learn how to properly clean and maintain your records so they always sound their best!

        DJPre II best features:
        - The low-frequency filter (most contemporary preamps/amps/receivers with no phono input also have no rumble filter, which you need to play or record vinyl. Inaudible infrasonic record rumble can drive your playback or recording system into clipping.)
        - The variable gain control (phono signal level depends on your phono cartridge and how the record was actually mastered and cut. This very useful control compensates for these variations.)
        - Switchable input capacitance (wiring from the cartridge, and cables between turntable and phono preamp can add too much capacitance and roll off highs. Switching to lower input capacitance can help.)

If you have vinyl, buy one!
