  After spending this much on new heads you'd expect these heads to at least produce similar tones between toms ... they don't. I've NEVER been more mad about a drum equipment purchase! I bought these to replace my 4 year-old Evans Hydraulics and I'm going to put my Evans right back on. First, the 10" tom is made of a cloudy material and is muffled like crazy in comparison to my 12" and 14" heads, which are made of a clear mylar . Second, birch is a naturally low sounding, very dense wood and I can't even get low tones out these heads. They produce that "slap" sound you get from loose heads even when they're tuned higher. I'm royally aggravated. If I could return these I would. The only upside is that I got a Hi-Energy snare head when I bought these, which is awesome, but, I'm jumping on the Remo band wagon as soon as possible. At least they make the same style head out of the same material. These only get 2 stars because they look cool.

• My favorite drumheads

  In my opinion there are really no better heads than these. They are amazingly durable and sound great in all settings whether it be live, studio, or just practicing. If tuned correctly they will give you the tone that most drummers look for, a nice fat and deep but melodic sound. I mostly recommend them for heavier music like Metal or Hardcore but they are versatile enough that they can be used for lighter styles as well. My only bad thing to say about them is that they are a little pricey compared to other heads but like all instruments, you get what you pay for.

• Awesome for Rock

  I bought these to replace the stock heads on my kit, and came across thse, so picked them up, and i'm ver impressed. These heads are meant for loose tuning (so mostly for rock and metal), which is of course, exactly for what I use them for. They have awesome tone, and especially the muffling ring works really well, But i also use them for other genres as well, such as jazz, or swing (sometimes swing combined with metal). And work pretty good for those too, BUY THESE HEADS.
