Logic Studio is sort of a mirage, like seeing water in the desert after a long travel. It's simple interface and logical approach make it seem like a mirage at first - it's really this simple? - can't be. Well, it is. The only limitation to this beautiful software is your own imagination. Armed with your favorite Audio Units and the tools that come right out of the box it is simply a pleasure using this software. Everything just makes perfect sense - the approach, layout, layering, busses, AUXs - you'll get hooked on Logic in minutes. I strongly recommend also having the Apple Magic Trackpad or a Wacom tablet and of course a MIDI controller (or several) makes Logic that much more enjoyable to produce with. One of the earliest impressions I got with Logic Studio was it's apparent simplistic interface and approach - it is not cluttered, allows custom layouts and has EXCELLENT sound quality. Using it with a pair of professional studio monitor headphones or monitor speakers will just utterly blow you away. Logic allows you to focus focus focus without all the nonsensical bloat of visual and audible clutter.
I previously owned Cubase SX which I loved. Later I bought Logic 8 and realized that it lacked many of the features that the first Cubase program had. Logic 9 now allows you a flex option where you can stretch files. Also, you can now change the tempo of audio files as well (not very easy to do it though) but I had to pay 200 dollars to upgrade to Logic 9, whereas the very first Cubase had all of these features. The sound quality is great if recording music into Logic. The virtual instruments in the program, however, sound pretty basic and unprofessional for the most part. But the program has awesome wave file loops ranging from electronica to hip hop. The reverb and dynamics units are great. As far as time processors go, Logic is pretty good. I'd say definitely buy the program, but it still has a long way to go with catching up to Cubase. The problem is you'll pay to keep upgrading.
I have just recently dived in computer recording about 5 years ago. I first started with PC platforms until a friend of mine introduced me to Logic Express. I was amazed at the contents of the scaled down or entry level of Logic that I had no choice but to get Logic Studio8. I now have Logic Studio9. Theres nothing on the market that comes close to it. You don't get a LE version for this price. From performing live or in the studio Logic is my choice. All you need is a usb keyboard and you are on your way. Having Mainstage is your studio with you live. There's tons of sounds loops and plugins that you'll never run out of ideas. Don't hesitate on this one. Its way under priced for what you get in the box.
I've been recording since the mid 90's. I started out recording on a 4 track tape recorder working my way up to Cool Edit Pro (we all remember that one) to the Adobe version of it, Audition 3.0. I had finally gotten the outboard hardware I needed to make awesome recordings, which made me push Audition to its limit. Needing something better (especially for drum punches), I decided to buy a Mac and Logic 9. I'm very happy with my decision. There was a bit of a learning curve involved, but it was worth it. It has such a warm tone, almost tube like which is unusual for digital recording. The built in software instruments are amazing, and flex time....OMG, I've cut drum editing time from 8 hours to appx. 3. If you're ready for an upgrade and don't want to spend $1 million on Pro Tools, Logic 9 is the way to go.
