Overview

The Duet is a 2-channel FireWire audio interface that features the amazing sound quality that made Apogee Electronics famous. With control functions built directly into Apple's Logic Pro, Soundtrack Pro and GarageBand software, Duet empowers you to create professional recordings effortlessly on your Mac.

With Duet, you can plug in guitars, keyboards, and microphones to record your music, or simply experience how much better your favorite tracks in iTunes sound. Duet is compact and powered by FireWire, so you can pack up your studio and go anywhere your music takes you.

Its dual, 1/4" high impedance inputs allow you to combine and record your two favorite instruments, whether it be two guitars, one bass, one guitar, etc., simultaneously using your favorite Core Audio-compatible application. You can also capture vocals with two microphone inputs that have phantom power and 75dB of gain. Whether you're noodling out new ideas, completing a personal tune, documenting a podcast, or recording a live performance, your new little buddy can handle it. The flexible breakout cables come with icons to make it easy to know what goes where, keeping everything in order, out of the way, and properly connected for maximum input and output, with minimal mess.

Duet's bus-powered FireWire interface frees you from the traditional four-wall studio setting. So grab your laptop, find a spot where inspiration takes you, whether it's in the solace of a park or in the echoey confines of a subway tunnel, turn it on, and start doing your thing.

If you don't have Logic Pro, Soundtrack Pro, Garageband, don't panic. Apogee's includes it's own Maestro software, so you'll still be able to work with any Core Audio-compatible application. Maestro allows you to turn the Duet's multifunction control knob into a one-click manager. Maestro will help you manage all of Duet's capabilities and settings, including I/O level, source selection, muting, mic/instrument gain mode, assign MIDI function controls to the controller knob, assign meter display, and more. Speaking of meter display, Duet comes with LED I/O meters to help you monitor your levels for maximum effectiveness.

Duet is not only great for it's input and interface functions, but it delivers amazing sound quality as well. Whether you're listening to your iTunes collection or latest composition through powered speakers connected to the 1/4" outputs or via the headphone jack, you'll not be disappointed by the crystal clear, playback performance.

One Word... Amazing

By Sam Smash

from Los Angeles

Comments about Apogee Duet Firewire Interface:

Duet... its a pocket studio, that records just as good as a professional studio. Imagine going around whereever you want and being able to have a studio. Welcome to the Apogee Duet, satisfies your wildest dreams and makes your dreams into reality. Don't believe me? Pick one up yourself. I just bought this product... when I pushed the record button on Garadge Band, and I heard what I recorded, all I was thinking was heaven. This product is the best recording equipment one can get to record on the go. I call this The Revolution of recording at home. I am truly happy I got this, and am completely satisfied.

Finally!!!!!

By Brian K.

from Denver/Aurora, CO

Comments about Apogee Duet Firewire Interface:

Two years ago, Apogee released the first truly professional sounding audio interface (The Ensemble) that boasted the same (if not better!) sound quality you could only previously attain using expensive protools HD systems. Now Apogee has done it again with the Duet. This is the first portable professional interface. For those people who wanted the clarity of professional recordings, but only needed one or two inputs, there hasn't been a good option on the market, until now! If you're a vocalist, or a singer/songwriter looking to cut tracks with the utmost of clarity. This is the product for you!

Just What I expected and then some!

By Hector

from El Paso, TX

Comments about Apogee Duet Firewire Interface:

Looks can be deceiving. It looks like it can't do anything for you but I was blown away. I use this to do simple things like transfer my recordings or voice-over work for radio commercials. The sound quality is literally breath-taking. I was very happy. I only use Garage Band and listening to my projects makes me SMILE. The price is fair for a SUPREME 2 channel interface. I use this with a MacPro Laptop and I don't have problems with it. I only hear comments about how great and professional my recordings sound. The funny thing is, I'm a beginner when it comes to recording.

Absolutely amazing

By joe

Comments about Apogee Duet Firewire Interface:

This thing is amazing. It doesn't seem like its much and compared to what others can offer as far as inputs are concerned, but believe me the quality of the sound is huge. I have used : Fire box, ultralite, 896HD, Digimax lt running through the 896HD, and protools interfaces. This interface blows all of them out of the water. It truely needs to be heard to understand. If its your first interface you can rest assure that this is the best investment you will ever make. Its amazing that they can keep the price tag so cheap.

Awesome!!

By Ruben Carrillo

from Bakersfield, CA

Comments about Apogee Duet Firewire Interface:

First of all, this thing looks like it was made for a Mac! As soon as I installed the software this beast was ready to go. It's simple to use, the sound is not altered to as far as I can tell, and it's so easy to use. Apogee really followed Apple's idea that less is more. I really recommend this if you are using more software based instruments and only a few external instruments. One of my best investments so far.

Apogee Excellence

By JL Workman

from Farmington Hills, MI

Comments about Apogee Duet Firewire Interface:

This device is the best piece of hardware that I have purchased alongside my microphone in a long time. The amount of quality that pumps out this thing is incredible. I record Hip Hop and R &B songs, and the leveling is really easy. This is a must have device if you work with Logic Pro like I do. I will recommend buying this over and over. This is the setup I have and it works great: Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro 80 ohm Headphones, Sterling Audio ST59 Condensor Mic, Macbook Pro, Logic Pro 9 and APOGEE DUET. Songs play everywhere and the quality is crazy.

un be lievable!

By Suren

from Palmdale,CA

Comments about Apogee Duet Firewire Interface:

I just got this last night, and I was up all night playing music through it, I wanted to take it too bed with me! I used logic 9 on a basic mac desktop. It installed just fine, and it worked even better! I still need a good condenser to record acoustic guitar, but my Les Paul studio sounded amazing through this device. I haven't tried other interfaces to compare, but if you are using mac and logic, I can tell you that you'll have an easy time setting this up and using it, and you will be satisfied with the sound especially if you are a beginner like me. thank you

Buy some nice mic's too!

By Dan

from w.c.h., oh

Comments about Apogee Duet Firewire Interface:

Great product. Make sure you check what firewire port you have on your computer. This only comes with firewire 400. All so make sure you have some good mic's (Shure 57 or 58) cause the sound quality is amazing. I use in Afghanistan to mic my guitar amp and it sounds a million times better than my POD x3.

Best 2 channel interface for the money. Period.

By Keller

from New York, New York

Comments about Apogee Duet Firewire Interface:

I sold off my RME Fireface for something more portable for on location recording, thus, the Apogee Duet comes into play. Right out of the box I could hear the quality of the converters. Previous sessions had so much more clarity. Highly recommended for engineers of all levels.

Amazing !

By Matt McKenna

from Los Angeles

Comments about Apogee Duet Firewire Interface:

I had been recording thru the original Motu 828 for years but suspected what was going in wasn't what was coming out. So I bought a duet and bingo I was right ! Everything sounds much tighter and way more crisp and clear. The pre amps in the 828 were flat out unusable. So I had bought a Ua 610/solo which I used for everything to get a good sound. Now I compared the Duet's Pre's and the 610 and like the sound of the Duet's pre's better. They sounded similar but the duet had punchier low mids. Great pre's /converter's and no latency. Amazing !
