Overview

Duet 2 builds on the incredible success of its predecessor by incorporating customer feedback, adding advanced new features, and delivering even better sound quality than the original. While the original is one of the most respected portable audio interfaces ever, receiving many industry awards, and instrumental in the creation of numerous Grammy-winning records, Duet 2 looks to take your music even farther.

Turn your Mac into a professional recording studio
Duet 2 is a great solution for capturing your music to your Mac. With Duet 2, you can make studio quality recordings of vocals, guitars, bass, keyboards, drums, and anything musical. Since Duet 2 is portable, you can take it anywhere your creativity takes you. When it's time to mix, Duet 2's output quality lets you hear your recordings with incredible detail and dimension allowing you to put the finishing touches on your musical project like a pro. Duet 2 sounds so amazing you won't want to listen to your iTunes library without it.

Better sound quality
Using the very latest technology and drawing upon the experience of developing Apogee's new flagship audio interface, Symphony I/O, Apogee engineers rebuilt Duet to achieve a difference you can hear. From the mic preamps to the AD/DA converters, Duet 2 offers the best of everything Apogee, allowing you to capture your audio with even more clarity and dimension than the original. This is professional sound quality you can, and will want to, take anywhere.

Smooth, detailed world-class mic preamps
The Duet 2 mic preamps feature a new design, all-new components, and seamless click-free transitions as the gain increases and decreases throughout the incredible range of 0-75dB. This unprecedented feature allows you to dial in the perfect level while delivering ultra-low noise and smooth, crisp detail. Most importantly, the Duet 2 mic preamps are optimized for any sound source, so no matter what you are recording you'll capture every detail.

Pristine, next generation AD/DA converters
Much like the mic preamps, the Duet 2 AD/DA converters are an all-new design and deliver pure recordings and an exceptional listening experience possible. This totally new design takes the personal studio to the next level with state-of-the-art components and next-generation conversion.

Full Color OLED Display
New to Duet 2 is a full-color OLED display. This high-resolution screen is the main control center for Duet 2, delivering visual feedback for multiple functions including metering, numeric value for input and output levels, input grouping, and phase, muting, phantom power, and Soft Limit indication. With this display you know the status of any input and output at any given moment without having to refer to Maestro or your recording software.

Configurable Touch Pads
Duet 2 also introduces configurable touch pads. The 2 touch pads, located on either side of the encoder knob, allow you to quickly access output functions such as "Mute Outputs," "Dim Outputs," "Sum to Mono," or "Toggle Headphone Source." Each are assignable using a drop-down menu within Apogee's new Maestro 2. This unique feature allows you to select the function you want and access it directly from Duet 2 without having to look at software.

Redesigned Breakout Cable
Duet 2's new breakout cable is greatly streamlined with 2 combination mic/instrument connectors (XLR and 1/4") built into a single connector and 2 balanced 1/4" connectors for speakers. The elegant single cable-to-junction design allows for easy cable management and the locking connection to Duet 2 is robust and stylish.

Made for the Mac, Core Audio compatible
Designed exclusively for the Mac and made for GarageBand and Logic, Duet 2 is the perfect centerpiece for any personal, Mac-based studio. Duet 2 is also Core Audio compatible making it ideal for other music creation apps like Pro Tools, Ableton Live and Cubase.

All new Maestro 2 control software
Duet 2 not only benefits from Symphony I/O's sound quality development, it has been integrated into the completely redesigned Maestro 2 as well. This full version update features a new look and familiar single window, multiple tab interface for quick access to all device and system settings. It also includes touch pad assignment, Soft Limit selection, output assignments, dim and mute output selection, sample rate selection, and an improved low-latency mixer. Now all Duet 2 parameters and functions are packaged into a single window design for the most streamlined and user-friendly experience.

Soft Limit for protection from digital overs
An Apogee technology first introduced in 1992 on Apogee's AD-500 converter, Soft Limit can be heard on countless platinum selling records around the world. Once a technology exclusively reserved for Apogee's most advanced audio converters, Soft Limit is now available in Duet.

This superior analog design prevents the digital clipping that causes distortion by instantaneously rounding off transient peaks before they
hit the analog-to-digital converter. Soft Limit allows several more decibels of apparent level to be recorded while subtly providing an analog-like warmth to the sound.

4 analog outputs - separate headphone and speaker outs
By very popular demand, Duet 2 includes 4 analog outputs. Stereo headphones or left & right mono speaker outs can be assigned in pairs to output 1-2 or 3-4 or the low latency mixer and each can be placed in stereo, mono, muted or dimmed modes.

It is now possible for a DJ to monitor a separate mix in headphones while sending a house mix to the club, a live performer to send a click track to in-ear monitors while sending a backing track to front-of-house, and a recording engineer to send a headphone mix to the performer while dedicating the main outputs to studio monitors.

Balanced Outputs
Duet 2 offers balanced outputs for connection to any studio monitor or outboard equipment. There are many benefits to balanced outputs, including the ability to run cabling long distances, reduced susceptibility to external noise, as well as simply offering compatibility to a much wider variety of audio equipment over unbalanced connections.

Multifunction Controller Knob
Along with its sleek aluminum chassis, the multifunction controller knob is one of the most recognizable features of Duet 2's design. This central control feature allows you to quickly and easily toggle thru Duet 2's inputs and outputs and set levels while looking at Duet 2's dynamic OLED display.

Hands down the best

By KIP GROOMS

from Seattle

Comments about Apogee Duet 2 USB Interface Regular:

I am running Apple iMac Mountain Lion and Apple Logic Pro 9. Hooking up and authorizing the Apogee Duet2 was seemless, painless and EASY. For me that was a big deal. I can use a computer all day long but when it comes to authorizing software and getting programs to talk to each other, it can get a bit dicey for me. The Duet2 sounds amazing and the controls were well thought out. (I do wish Apogee made a transport device for across the room control). If all you need is two(2) inputs this unit is hands down worth the money. If I need more than two(2) channels I have been recording onto my Korg D3200 and then tranfering through the Duet2. I was using PC windows 7 and presonus. I have since changed to Apple and gotten rid of all my presonus (that cost me some $$$$$$$$) If you can afford it, get the Apogee Duet2, you won't be sorry.

Buy it.

By ARON WRIGHT

Comments about Apogee Duet 2 USB Interface Regular:

The apogee duet 2 sounds amazing. If you only need two inputs this piece of hardware is a no-brainer. I was previously using a Digi 002 rack. The duet 2 has much more detail, sounds much more 3 dimensional, and is much more portable. I recorded my last record in a studio with Neumann mics through a Neve console and all kinds of outboard gear- I prefer the sound of My Blue Baby bottle or SM7b and Rode NT5s with the Duet 2. So far I've recorded Vocals, guitar, tuba, cello and trumpet through it. It's like I've heard my mics for the first time. Also, you'll hear things in recordings, even mp3s that you didn't notice before which must be the D/A conversion The Apogee Maestro software works great. Overall, best money I've ever spent on recording gear.

Aogee Duet 2 review

By Keith

from LA, CA.

Comments about Apogee Duet 2 USB Interface Regular:

Got the Apogee Duet 2 USB on 8/23/11. I use it with a 2007 imac/Snow Leopard setup. The Apogee system loaded in just fine with the imac. I'm a pro and have been providing fully produced tracks for commercial consumption on a weekly basis using a Presonus Firestudio as my interface into the imac for 4 years--it's been a solid, easy to get the job done setup. With that in mind, using my Yamaha HS80M monitors connected to the Duet 2, I cut tracks using the built-in mic pres, and also cut tracks with a Neve/La610 line level rig into the Duet 2. Sound-wise the Duet 2 truly is a step up from the Firestudio. When comparing the two units the Duet 2 has a larger soundscape from the lows to the highs, and the midrange is smoother. The mic pres in the Duet 2 are more high fidelity than the Firestudio and seem to display more information. Overall, depending on the source, the Duet 2 can have a lush sound, and seems to fill the air more and in a smoother way than the Firestudio. I really like the sound of the Duet 2.

Exactly what I wanted!

By Ryan

from New York, NY

Comments about Apogee Duet 2 USB Interface Regular:

Ok, I've been playing around with this thing for a few days now. I traded in my first generation Duet for this. I've put it through it's paces; tested through iTunes and Logic. And I have to say I'm happy...no wait, beyond happy. Upon your first listen you'll know it's a huge improvement over the first generation or any other mid-range converter you may be coming from. The assignable touch pads are a awesome addition. I can check my mixes in mono with the touch of a button or dim/mute the mains/headphones. Or set them up to toggle between sources for my headphone mix! Small things like that make me wonder how I got along before having it. HA! The breakout cable is not a filthy mess anymore! Nuff said. Improved preamps! The sound is not colored, but nicely detailed and even. They are surprisingly good and VERY quiet. I can push my gain hungry ribbon mic with headroom to spare and it's whisper quiet. I'll no longer immediately look to grab an outboard preamp. Alright, I could go on and on. If you're like me and don't need many inputs and outputs but sound quality and functionality are paramount to your work flow, then the Duet II is an absolute no-brainer. Yes, for a 2in x 4out interface it's not cheap...but neither is the sound.
