Digital that preserves all the presence of your most refined performances.

The Aphex 207D Tube Microphone/Instrument Preamp with Digital Out adds AES/EBU and S/PDIF digital outputs to the popular 207 tube preamp, providing direct digital connection throughout your signal chain, with up to 96kHz sampling rates. The 207D also adds word clock for digital clocking synchronization.

The Aphex 207D is an audiophile-quality 2-channel tube mic preamp designed to reveal the subtlety and power of vintage condensers, ribbons, electrets, and popular dynamic mics. MicLim circuitry offers virtually crashproof performance making it a perfect front end for digital recorders. An insert loop is provided for adding effects prior to conversion. Offers up to 65dB of continuously variable gain, 48V phantom power, polarity select, -20dB pad, low cut filter switches, switchable -10dBv or +4dBu operating levels, balanced XLR and TRS I/O, and a delayed turn-on circuit for speaker protection.

The Aphex 207D tube preamp makes use of patented Reflected Plate Amplifier (RPA) technology, a true vacuum tube circuit which has all the desired characteristics without the heat, fragility, sonic variability, short life, and high frequency roll-off of conventional tube designs.

NEW REVIEW - great all-around preamp for the money

I'm 50 as I write this and have been playing and recording since 1975 with my first band ( disco/ wedding, don't laugh it payed better than what you make now a days). I have the older Aphex107 I got as my first good pre-amp and I love it. I used it for 10 years and recorded everything with it, and I still do. When I went to 24/96 with a new mac, I wanted a digital pre that would fit my budget and blow away my onyx pre's which are pretty good I must admit. The Aphex 207D is a dream and fits perfectly into my studio. Budget priced and excellent sound. I love the fact that I don't have to run it through a compressor to worry about overs because it has it built in, and it works perfectly. The miclim is a lifesaver and when recording a rubusto tenor that kept belting it out, I got a perfect take with no overs and pristine sound with no artifacts. It also works as my drum overs pre and I love to run my overs hot and this thing does it with no sweat. I'll agree there are higher priced units, but I'm not making big money recording, and for my ears the 207D is a gold mine worth of peace of mind when overs could ruin a track. My sound and CD's I've produced on it speak the truth. I use A Rode NTK, Blue Dragonfly, Shure KSM 27 and 44, AKG C1000 overs for the drums and a rebuilt MK 319. Going direct into a MOTU MK3. I get audiophile sound, and all these mics love the Aphex 107 and 207D. My next preamp will have to be some crazy thing to beat this, like an Avalon 737 or some noise like that. But as long as money is tight and Springsteen isn't knocking at my door I'll be very happy with these. Thanks and peace.
