Whoa! What a difference!!

By Wild Bill

from MidWest

Comments about Ampeg SVT-610HLF Bass Cabinet:

I had recently "downsized" from a SVT5Pro and PR8X10 rig (Weight was killing me!) and was trying to match up a cab to my new SVT3Pro...I first tried a 4X10HLF (great cab but a tad "limiting" - 4 ohms) then tried out the 8X10. Being as this was going to be my "last rig" Weight was an obvious, and important factor in the final decision. Then I checked out the 6X10HLF. BINGO!!!! This cabinet seems to compliment the SVT3 perfectly! I get crisp highs and booming lows (and remember, these speakers are brand new and still a little "tight"). I can envision this bad boy getting "better" with age. It is, indeed, a smaller version of it's bigger brother, yet seems to be more efficient. The overall weight of the cabinet is not so much of an issue because Ampeg (in it's infinite wisdom) chose to put side handles on this model and left them off the 8X10 (go figure!) Yes, some will claim that you should "throw in an extra $50.00 and get the 8X10 and that is fine. But I found that the ports more than compensate for the other 2 tens and, at least in my limited experience, make the 6X10 MORE bass inclined. Finally, being in my 50s, weight was a very important consideration in my choice. This cabinet (along with my 6space rack) are just about all both me and my bandmates can handle and still be able to play without showering before the show! I HIGHLY urge the shopper to check out the 8X10's little brother before making a final decision. I honestly think that you will be as impressed as I was. To put it bluntly, this cab kicks some serious butt!

Great value in a classic cab.

Comments about Ampeg SVT-610HLF Bass Cabinet:

The Ampeg SVT 610-HLF is an excellent working cabinet. When I purchased this cabinet I was using two 8 ohm 4x10 cabinets, and wanted to ease my gigging woes. My requirements were 6 or 8 10" speakers, 4 ohm load, speakon connectors, and wheels. I looked at the Bergantino, Epifani, Mesa, and Ampeg offerrings. There were several factors that swayed me towards the Ampeg. The 610 provided a good compromise for me between speaker area and weight. After looking at the 8x10's, the extra weight was more of a factor than volume due to the places I play. In fact, after running a DI line to the board, I rarely use even as much volume as I do in practice. The "towel" bar in the back is incredible. It is literally something straight out of a handicap accessable restroom stall. It is big, sturdy, and I would be absolutely shocked if it ever broke. The wheels are adequate, but then do get caught in large cracks, and do not roll up stairs very easily, some slightly larger wheels would be apprciated. The skid bars and kick plate in the back are very helpfil, and greatly ease loading and unloading this cab by yourself. The cabinet features dual Speak-on and 1/4" unputs, along with tweeter attenuation. This cabinet has done very well as far as tone goes, and after playing this cabinet, I prefer the sound over Ampegs non-ported offerrings like the 8x10. The non-ported design allows more speaker cone movement. The cabinet covering is the weakest part of the design, however, but also an Ampeg trademark. In a very short amount of time, the covering on my cabinet has acquired more wear and tear than I would like to see, and quicker than any carpet covered cabinets I have had in the past. I play one gig per week, in small and medium sized vanues, and have no worries that this classic cabinet will let me down. From thunderous lows, to clearly defined mids and highs, this cabinet allows me to fully express the voice of all the instruments I use, which include 4, 5, and 8 string basses. Highly recommended for value, reliability, and features.

Tone and then some...

Comments about Ampeg SVT-610HLF Bass Cabinet:

This was the final touch when crafting my bass rig. I am running an Ampeg B2-RE through this cab and it is everything I had hoped for. This cab is a proven workhorse. Everything the 8X10 is but just not as much bulk (i.e. more room in the van) Still as much punch as the 4x10 as well. I even think this is easier to haul than the 4x10 due to the height and use of leverage. You will not regret this cab once you hear/feel the tone. There is no other cab imho. Even if you pair it with another fine Ampeg head(Pro3-6,CL,etc.) This cab can handle it and then some.

Simply The Best!

Comments about Ampeg SVT-610HLF Bass Cabinet:

Believe me when I say you will NEVER need to upgrade your amp again once you purchase this baby. Perfect for any bassist looking to bring the power. I have even hooked this bad boy up to my room's stereo, and let me tell you, I've never heard such a booming "sub" in my life. I nearly blew my house up! Very reliable too...still has the same clean sound from the day I purchased it.

The Dominator of Bass Cabs

By Joe P.

from Baytown, TX

Comments about Ampeg SVT-610HLF Bass Cabinet:

The Ampeg SVT-610HLF is hands down the best of the best. It dominates over ANY other bass cab I've EVER used. The tone and warmth is magnificent. I can't see myself using ANYTHING other than this cab. It sounds wonderful. It sounds like an Ampeg, no matter what head you use with it. It will still blow your mind, and your ear drums if you're not careful. :) The best cab ever made, no wonder the pros use it.

Good God!

Comments about Ampeg SVT-610HLF Bass Cabinet:

Well....I've been playing bass exclusively for 30 years.I've played thru virtually everything. Toured with Death Metal bands,Cover bands you name it. I too was and always have been a big fan of the 8X10 series cabs. But after lugging those around just to have a big bad bass amp on stage is catching up. Visited my local Guitar Center expecting to leave with maybe a 420-HLF. Good loud bass cabinet, but I need to hear & feel my bass onstage ala "Stage Volume". Well they just so had both cabinets, tried the Peavey, but I was test driving with their SVT4-Pro (1,600 Watts) And I beleive when trying out amps you should be allowed to get loud in the store, Long story short. The last successful band I toured with was called "ORIGIN". and before them,"CEPHALIC CARNAGE" and I can promise you, that you'll have that "Head Level" bass in your band AND onstage! And not kill yourself moving it. It's breezy with this cab. I wish I would have had one or 2 of these "back" when I was younger, the bigger cab and 2 speakers cannot compete with the PORTED 610 GET THIS ONE! But hurry 'cause the one I found was a U.S.A. Made unit!"

Awsome Cab

By Van Mason

from Xenia Ohio

Comments about Ampeg SVT-610HLF Bass Cabinet:

I just bought this thing used at guitar center. The sound is amazing. I am running a 1976 Ampeg V6-B through it. I have never heard a better sounding amp period. The tone is extremely clean and clear. And it runs on 4 Ohms, which is a little harder to find than 8. If you have a good head this would be a great accompaniment.

Comments about Ampeg SVT-610HLF Bass Cabinet:

What a great cab. VERY loud and clear. Some online reviews have mentioned due to the ported design it was muddy sounding. Not at all my experience (although I noticed a few reviews mentioned it paired with an SVT3 Pro which I do find a bit muddy sounding at loud volumes so think it might be the amp not the cab). I have this paired with a GK 1001RB and I use a Music Man Stingray Bass. The tone out of this cabinet is amazing. Nice deep tone (even deeper than the 115 I had previously paired with a 410) but cuts right thru a loud drummer and 2 guitar players. Great balance of lows you can feel but clarity to actual hear your playing. First practice with the cabinet and the whole band commented on how good it sounded. I also found this pretty easy to lug around, the skid rails and tilt back bar make this SO easy to get around. I actually find it a lot easier than lugging my 410 & 115 around. Definitely suggest if you're looking for a nice loud booming cabinet that will still cut thru a mix try this one out.

One of the best...

By Eric

Comments about Ampeg SVT-610HLF Bass Cabinet:

This cab has proven to me again and again what a great amp should sound like. I've had this amp for about 3 months and the speakers have worn in perfectly. Kudos to Ampeg for that one. I've got a SVT-3 Pro to go with this cab and I couldn't have asked for anything better. Sure, the 810 moves a bit more air, but the 610 is a hair behind it as far as pushing the db's goes. Check Ampeg's site, they've got it in the product description. The horn is something I don't use that much (I usually have it off), but the option is great. The only thing I'd improve is not having it ported at the bottom. But when you're playing with a 4 piece and your guitarist only has a 2x12, a 610 seems to be the perfect option. Its a true road warrior as well, as its seen the stage and trailer without damage. Only one scratch! If you want a great amp and don't want the huge weight of a fridge like the 810, go with the 610. Not to mention, they're not as common as the 810s in the rock scene. Stand out, baby. That's what its all about. I highly recommend this amp for playing any style. Its the most versatile cab they sell, in my opinion.

Sonic Boom!!!!

By Jim Colbert

from Goffstown,NH

Comments about Ampeg SVT-610HLF Bass Cabinet:

I've been playing thru my610HLF cab now for nearly 4 years....being the bass player in a 4-piece classic rock cover band I need the power the crispness and "sonic boom this cab delivers. My amp is an Ampeg B2-RE head and my main bass is a Fender Roadworn '62 Jazzbass what a great sound bandmates all say quite often.."man your bass sounds awesome"they can feel the sonic boom blasting right thru them on stage LOL.Way cool. This cab is superb a bit bulky/heavy but very movable.I'm thinking of getting an Ampeg PN-115HLF ProNeo cab for smaller gigs we do. But its Ampeg ONLY for me(even my practice amp and home practice amp is an Ampeg) This 610 ROCKS
