These warranty URLs will go live on May 1st, 2009. Moving through this transition, in order for customers to obtain warranty service, both the sales receipt and a physical copy of the (older) warranty statement will be required by our Service and Support departments in order to issue Service Requests, etc. If the product was purchased on or after May 1st, 2009, but a physical copy of the older warranty terms is not presented, the new warranty terms and periods will apply. Meanwhile, the products that bear with them the new warranty periods (as reflected in the box contents of each product) are being tracked by serial #, and contain new warranty content referring customers to the appropriate brand website. I've had some decent amps in the past, including my original SVT from the early 70's, Sunn, Fender, and GK. I had been looking for a serious upgrade and was looking at the SVT4PRO and the Ampeg 810. But when I tried it out, even the guys that worked there had trouble getting it all hooked up right and then trying to get a good sound from it. I decided right then that it wasn't the head for me, because I'm not too great at playing with all the electronics and everything - I just want to hook up, make a few adjustments and then play away. So I went to the bigger store in San Jose and plugged into the SVT3PRO with the 610 cab. Without making any adjustments at all, it was the bass sound of my dreams and I joked with the sales guy, who plays bass, by the way, that I'd take it after just 5 or 6 notes played. We still tried out the Mark Bass amp that he said was just as good or better than Ampeg but with very light cabs. The Mark Bass sounded pretty good, but he had to fool around with the controls a lot and the cabs were ugly, with bright yellow logos that really turned me off. I know it's supposed to be just the sound, but I like equipment that doesn't stand out too much - only sounds killer. So I went back to the Ampeg setup and that was it. I read one of the other reviews where this guy said the 3PRO and the 610hlf was a match made in heaven, and I agree. The 3PRO has all the tone control of the 4PRO but with much less hassle to get that sound. The only advantage I see with the 4PRO is that you have the power to add cabs later, where with the 3PRO you're pretty much stuck with your first choice of cabs if you pick one like the 610hlf that takes 600w. But seriously, it is way more than enough for any small to medium show, and the larger shows almost always have huge PA to run through. I can't stop practicing now and the main thing I noticed right away was that every single note on my bass has that same great bassy tone, a consistent tone, instead of giving up a bit of tone if you play high on the neck or want to pound the low E - it's all very clear and bassy. It's like I sound twice as good on the same old lines I've been playing. By now you figure I work there or something, but I just wanted to get my opinion in and did I say I'm thrilled with my new amp? I even got a nice deal on it so get to it and don't buy before you try out this combo!

The Ampeg SVT-3 Pro seemed to be the best choice for the money I wanted to spend, and for the sound I wanted to get in regards to reviews. I was extremely excited when I finally got this in, only to be very dissapointed with Ampeg on this head. The biggest issue I noticed right away as a professional Bass player is simply the volume this head puts out. I was in an empty room, plugged into my amazing Aguilar top of the line Bass Cab, and I literally had to put the volume on 7 just to feel my Bass bump. When my band rehearsed the next day, I had this head blasting on 10 and it still wasn't loud enough for me to even blend in with my band. Now in regards to tone, you can definitiely get some great sounds, Ampeg is great with that, but tone means nothing when you can't get the volume supply you need for professional gigs. If you are looking to spend the amount of money this head costs, PLEASE buy the Galien Krueger 1001 RB. Its 700Watts solid state, but tone, volume, functions, and the overall review of that head is absolutely incredible. The Ampeg SVT-3 Pro could have been that break through affordable professional head if they never switched the make of it overseas, and if they atleast made this thing put out 600W - 700W. I hope musicians don't make the mistake I did thining the tube preamps would make a huge difference over solid state, cause for me, it honesty was a huge let down.

Great with SVT-810 cab

By LISA VALENTICH

from Anaheim California

Comments about Ampeg SVT-3PRO Series Head:

I purchased this bad boy along with the SVT-810 recently. Oh boy am I pleased. What can I say about this amp that hasn't already been reviewed? The tones you can get out of this are exceptional. It is extremely powerful and that's an understatement! It makes my Fender Jazz American Standard sound even better. I wish I had more to say, but like I said everything good about this amp has already been reviewed. Any Ampeg head will goo great with any Ampeg cab. My Svt-810 and this amp are soulmates. Together it shakes everything around you without a nasty distortion hiss. I really think I am going to stick with Ampeg the rest of my musical life. This is well worth the money, you are paying for Quality with Ampeg. Any serious bass player will do no wrong with this Amp. Powerful, sturdy.

Comments about Ampeg SVT-3PRO Series Head:

I don't understand why some of these reviews claim there is not enough power from this amp. I have been playing mine for seven years now and play nothing else. I have played venues from small rooms to outdoor festivals and have never had a heating/failure issue. I play it through an Ampeg 8x10 classic, and it rumbles. I do not know why anyone would need more power or volume...I think their problem is that their cab is maybe too small. If they need more volume than this, they will simply need another amp and another cab. This thing through any 8x10 will give plenty of volume and even through the Ampeg 8x10, it has tremendous tone at low levels for smaller rooms. I always use it with my 8x10 even in the small joints. Great buy because it will last a life time. I paid 750 for mine and have been on it for 7 years so that is only about 100 a year.

      Ampeg has the tone

      By ken talley

      from Buena Vista, VA

Comments about Ampeg SVT-3PRO Series Head:

Right out of the box, the tone was outstanding. I enjoy how quiet the amp is. I have it paired with my 410hlf cabinet. It is powerful and it gets loud for just 450 watts. In my opinion 5 tubes, 5 different mid range settings and a 9 band graphic eq (I use the in/out graphic switch for solo boost), not to forget gain, tube gain and master volume make it incredibly easy to dial in the exact sound, tone and volume. This amp is on the weightier side of things, however, in a 6 space rack with a power conditioner, tuner, effects, digital receiver and miscellaneous cords (speaker, patch, etc.) It is a nice neat bundle for intermediate venues. If you want to go larger you can connect as many slave units as needed or of course FOH. I now have a completely matched rig. Go ahead and make your day with this amp.

      bassman

      By Bill Weaver

Comments about Ampeg SVT-3PRO Series Head:

I would recommend this unit, for the price, it's well worth it and I get alot of compliments on the sound.
I purchased this amp about a year ago and wanted to use it awhile before writing a review.
I think it's great, the tube preamp, EQ and other tone settings give anyone of any style the ability to shape their sound.
I run it through an Ampeg 4-10 HVLT cab, which runs @ 4 ohms, so I get full use of all the power.
I've used it @ a variety of venues, from outdoors running through the P.A., to medium and small rooms. Always sounds great!
      I use a Bass with active pick-ups.

      SVT 3 Pro Review

      By Kinkaid

      from Denver CO

Comments about Ampeg SVT-3PRO Series Head:

I picked this up about 2 years ago so I've really had a chance to live with it and use it in many situations. It is definitely a superior piece of equipment. I also own and play through a 59 Fender Bassman 5o (Great tube sound but nowhere near the power of the svt), and a tuck and roll Kustom. The svt is by far my fav. I run it through an svt 4x10 up top and an svt1x15 underneath and get a great range of sound, fat, low bottoms, clear crisp highs, and plenty of punch in the middle. My biggest and really only complaint would be the occasional interception of radio signals. my fender tube dose this as well and i've experienced it in other tube amps. In practice situations any worrys of not cutting through are put right to bed, even during double bass drum blasts and obnoxious guitar players. This power makes it suitable for pretty much all gigs and for the larger ones(6-12 hundred people) it has a direct line out for the p.a. so no more little box to fool with. and on stage with the right speakers you will feel it, so monitors are not so important. Unless for what ever reason you need more power I would recommend this amp to any one. Their also tough as hell mine took a drop from the top of the stack when some sound guy decided it would be easer to just push the whole thing from the bottom I plugged it in and it started right up. So in summation. Great range of sound, plenty of power, Fat , clear, and crisp, lots of pro extras five stars.

Top of the line mid-powered amp

      By codyml

      from East TN

Comments about Ampeg SVT-3PRO Series Head:

This amp is amazing for bass, keys, electric cello, even guitar! Amazing REAL TUBES give you the closest you can get to get to decent tone with a solid-state powered amp. The only issue is of course that the power is just not quite on the pro level. If you can even find a 4 ohm bass cab you will most likely still have to use the -15db pad, cutting your volume in half.

      I liked this guy

      By Bassman Al

      from DC

Comments about Ampeg SVT-3PRO Series Head:

I just sold this amp after 3 great years of use. The one complaint I have is that the owner's manual is terrible. Once I learned, but starting a thread on talkbass, about this amp then I was fine. It has many great features. Mine was a 1996 USA model and it worked great. It is heavy, about 25 lbs, which is the territory with tubes. Ultimately I decided the tubes weren't worth back surgery. One of the few amps that I might actually miss, having owned Peavey, GK and Hartke prior.

Great hybrid, if you don't get all-tube SVT

      By Spazzmathsvt

      from Washington, D.C. area

Comments about Ampeg SVT-3PRO Series Head:

This head sounds good because it has a full 5 tube pre-amp. I especially like the fact that you can crank the "tube gain". This is a relatively warm and organic sound without a tube power amp/section. So if you don't want to get or buy (a more expensive) all tube SVT (or Orange, Hi-watt, or Fender), the Pro 3 really is not a bad option. But, all tube sound does (simply put) kill the Pro 3, can't really fake it. I do love the sharp, cutting mids and highs this amp produces regardless. The Pro 3 is really versatile tone-wise, the eq and range of this amp are really top notch. I use the Pro 3 as my back-up for my 70's SVT and have recorded with the Pro 3. I see a ton of these used by other players, and this amp sounds heads and shoulders better than any purely solid state head I've heard.
