Warranty
MANUFACTURER'S WARRANTY
On May 1st, 2009, the Mackie, TAPCO, Crate, Blackheart and Ampeg websites will be updated with the addition of warranty URLs (e.g. www.mackie.com/warranty) expressing new A Stock warranty terms. These warranty URLs will go live on May 1st, 2009. Formerly, warranty periods for these LOUD brands appeared in a variety of locations – in product manuals (for Mackie and TAPCO) and on warranty cards and hang tags (for Crate, Blackheart and Ampeg). In order to streamline and clarify this process, Mackie, TAPCO, Crate, Blackheart and Ampeg warranty periods and terms will be communicated in full on the warranty pages. Any LOUD products purchased prior to May 1st will bear with them the manufacturer’s warranty as predates the new policy. Moving through this transition, in order for customers to obtain warranty service, both the sales receipt and a physical copy of the (older) warranty statement will be required by our Service and Support departments in order to issue Service Requests, etc. If the product was purchased on or after May 1st, 2009, but a physical copy of the older warranty terms is not presented, the new warranty terms and periods will apply. Meanwhile, the products that bear with them the new warranty periods (as reflected in the box contents of each product) are being tracked by serial #, and contain new warranty content referring customers to the appropriate brand website. The information below reflects the product warranty periods that will be effective on May 1st, 2009 for the Mackie, TAPCO, Crate, Blackheart and Ampeg brands: Mackie: A 3-year, nontransferable, inclusive warranty on electronics and a 2-year, nontransferable, inclusive warranty on drivers (where applicable) apply to loudspeakers (active and passive), power amps, powered mixers, and HR studio monitors. Comments about Ampeg PF-500 Portaflex 500W Bass Amp Head:

Bought this on sale @ GC as a back up to my Orange Terror Bass 500. Better tonal variations than the Orange but FAR LESS output volume than my Orange. My Orange BT with the gain set @ 12 o'clock and the master set @ 7 or 8 o'clock absolutely overwhelms the pf500 with the master DIMED. I've used it in a few rehearsals and the sound is great but not really enough oomph for me.

Do not buy, design issue with this head

Comments about Ampeg PF-500 Portaflex 500W Bass Amp Head:

Had this unit for just over 3 years. First one I received smoked when I turned it on. Guitar Center offered a quick replacement and I purchased the 3 year warranty. 3 months after the warranty ended the unit died again. If you search the internet you will find there is a issue with this head that causes the fault light to trigger. I had ignored the reviews, wish I hadn't. Neither guitar center or ampeg was willing to offer me any help. I wanted a good story to tell, unfortunately these companies did not provide that opportunity.

Well Worth it !

By George Covetskie

Comments about Ampeg PF-500 Portaflex 500W Bass Amp Head:

I've been through Basses and Amps since 1972 and there are just a handful of Amps that actually please and do their jobs when it comes to Playing Bass live. Here is one of them. I have to admit it is a Small Club Amp and if you want a review in that situation, here it is. This Amp is close to a 5 star but I gave it a 5. Reason for this is because if you do many small clubs and all you want to do is bring a small amp, cabinet and plug and go, here it is. This head is perfect for that. Light weight, simple plug and play and the tone is all there. Yea, we get loud and the amp does handle this easily. It also has plenty of deep bottom. I don't know what the other reviews are saying when it aint got thump, it has plenty. The only thing I will mention on the negative side it that the frequency presets ( 1 through 5 ) have just #1 that seems to be a real bass tone and it is limited at that. The rest of the numbers set up a harsh kinda tone from the mid bass to the middle bass tones. Although this limit is there, it does the job and better than you would think. It's just nice to have more control for different room sounds. Power, yes, tone, yea, Usability, yes. If you do small clubs and know how to play with real musicians where tone and volume are the essence of your musicianship, this Amp does it very well. I would recommend this to a seasoned player, this is not the kind of amp that will blow your friends out from a across the stage with screaming bass. BUT, it's close. Hope that helps.

This Amp works well for me !

By George Covetskie

from Hickory, North Carolina

Comments about Ampeg PF-500 Portaflex 500W Bass Amp Head:

Got this amp for smaller venues. Used on an old Eden Cabinet with a Celestion 15. WOW. can't ask for more tone and control. It never did get hot on me, but maybe because it's an 8 ohm load on it and we play with tone, control and quality. If I were to bump it up, it does handle this well, however, I can see if you used it like this for a long period of time, it may get hot enough to go into protect mode, but like I mentions, I played a show for 3 hours strait, nothing bad. It worked well and I am glad I got this. Oh yea, easy carry in and out. One hand the cabinet, the other had the amp. Maybe I'm getting older, but I would hope smarter. This amp works well. I recommend it.

Perfect for me

By mike suddertj

Comments about Ampeg PF-500 Portaflex 500W Bass Amp Head:

With all the knobs set flat it has a pleasant tone; turn up the gain and it punches pretty hard. At first it seemed weak for 500 watts, but unlike many amps the volume and tones increase smoothly as you crank the knobs rather than peaking early only to turn to mush when you turn them past 7. On my regular job they put us outside since it turned warm, and this amp is giving me the best sound I've had in years! Also, Guitar Center has been very helpful and patient.

Has the sound, but not quite the umph.

By Jesse Gerst

Comments about Ampeg PF-500 Portaflex 500W Bass Amp Head:

I have not played this amp out in a live band yet, but I have practiced a couple of times with it and I feel that I have to really crank it up to get much volume out of it. We'll see once I take it to a practice or play a live show, I have a hard time really gauging how anything performs until I use it in a live band situation. That being said, I like the other features that come with the head, I feel I can get about any tone out of the head I want. The midrange shift and the addition of the ultra high & ultra low buttons help accomplish getting about any tone I want. I like the mute and tuner out, the fact it has a ground lift and the post/pre eq options on the back for the direct out. It was a hard pick between calling this a 3 and 4 star review. One note, like I said, I had to crank this thing up to really get volume out of it, but it didn't seem to distort the sound doing that, maybe that's the class D electronics at work, I don't know.

Ampeg Power And Quality Is A Must For Any Serious Bassist

By Eric Marshall

from Carolinas

Comments about Ampeg PF-500 Portaflex 500W Bass Amp Head:

I picked up this little jewel new from Guitar Center in Greenville, SC and have been really pleased with my purchase so far. The guys at GC have been really helpful to me and some of them even remember my name when I walk through the door and that really makes me comfortable when I'm doing my shopping. I'm currently running this amp through (2) Hartke VX1508 series cabinets and it literally makes my entire house thump. I really dig the cosmetics of this amp especially with the blue LED light that signifies being online. It's unfortunate that someone else bought this model amp that was defective because mine has given me zero issues whatsoever and I would recommend to you and your mother.

Defective

By Matt Casey

from boston ma

Comments about Ampeg PF-500 Portaflex 500W Bass Amp Head:

I bought the PF-500 along with the 410HLF cab. Sounded good in the store but took a new PF-500 home, got it out of the box and played about 5 notes before I heard a buzz rattling through the cab every time I leaned on a note a bit. I assumed it was a damaged speaker on the cab and switched the cab out; still got the buzz. Took the amp back, grabbed another new one out of the box, hooked it up in the store and got the same buzz. Went back to the demo and made that one buzz too. That's three heads that sounded more like a kazoo than a decent amp, so I did a full return and started looking for a new head. Can't rate it any higher than a 1 because I couldn't find one that worked.

Awesome Amp and Power

By Luis Martinez Jr.

from Corpus Christi, Texas

Comments about Ampeg PF-500 Portaflex 500W Bass Amp Head:

I have owned this amp for about 3 months and all I can say is darn what power! It's very compact and light for 500 watts and weighs about 11 pounds. This amp was inspired by the iconic Ampeg B-15 of yesteryear. It has awesome tone which can be changed by a 5 postion frequency knob. It can also be changed by the standard bass, midrange and treble knobs. It has an ultra hi button which gives those tight crisp clean sounds and an ultra lo button which gives those deep, deep bottom ends especially when using a 5-string bass like I do. I have this amp paired with the Ampeg 610HLF which is a 600 watt rms cab and a 500 watt head so plenty of headroom. I would highly recommend this amp to anyone who is looking for that classic ampeg tone of the 60's or 70's as well as an excellent tone sounding amp for any music genre.
