Whoa! What a difference!!

I had recently "downsized" from a SVT5Pro and PR8X10 rig (Weight was killing me!) and was trying to match up a cab to my new SVT3Pro...I first tried a 4X10HLF (great cab but a tad "limiting" - 4 ohms) then tried out the 8X10. Being as this was going to be my "last rig" Weight was an obvious, and important factor in the final decision. Then I checked out the 6X10HLF. BINGO!!!! This cabinet seems to compliment the SVT3 perfectly! I get crisp highs and booming lows (and remember, these speakers are brand new and still a little "tight"). I can envision this bad boy getting "better" with age. It is, indeed, a smaller version of it's bigger brother, yet seems to be more efficient. The overall weight of the cabinet is not so much of an issue because Ampeg (in it's infinite wisdom) chose to put side handles on this model and left them off the 8X10 (go figure!) Yes, some will claim that you should "throw in an extra $50.00 and get the 8X10 and that is fine. But I found that the ports more than compensate for the other 2 tens and, at least in my limited experience, make the 6X10 MORE bass inclined. Finally, being in my 50s, weight was a very important consideration in my choice. This cabinet (along with my 6space rack) are just about all both me and my bandmates can handle and still be able to play without showering before the show! I HIGHLY urge the shopper to check out the 8X10's little brother before making a final decision. I honestly think that you will be as impressed as I was. To put it bluntly, this cab kicks some serious butt!

Great value in a classic cab.

The Ampeg SVT 610-HLF is an excellent working cabinet. When I purchased this cabinet I was using two 8 ohm 4x10 cabinets, and wanted to ease my gigging woes. My requirements were 6 or 8 10" speakers, 4 ohm load, speakon connectors, and wheels. I looked at the Bergantino, Epifani, Mesa, and Ampeg offerrings. There were several factors that swayed me towards the Ampeg. The 610 provided a good compromise for me between speaker area and weight. After looking at the 8x10's, the extra weight was more of a factor than volume due to the places I play. In fact, after running a DI line to the board, I rarely use even as much volume as I do in practice. The "towel" bar in the back is incredible. It is literally something straight out of a handicap accessable restroom stall. It is big, sturdy, and I would be absolutely shocked if it ever broke. The wheels are adequate, but then do get caught in large cracks, and do not roll up stairs very easily, some slightly larger wheels would be apprciated. The skid bars and kick plate in the back are very helpfil, and greatly ease loading and unloading this cab by yourself. The cabinet features dual Speak-on and 1/4" unputs, along with tweeter attenuation. This cabinet has done very well as far as tone goes, and after playing this cabinet, I prefer the sound over Ampegs non-ported offerrings like the 8x10. The non-ported design allows more speaker cone movement. The cabinet covering is the weakest part of the design, however, but also an Ampeg trademark. In a very short amount of time, the covering on my cabinet has acquired more wear and tear than I would like to see, and quicker than any carpet covered cabinets I have had in the past. I play one gig per week, in small and medium sized vanues, and have no worries that this classic cabinet will let me down. From thunderous lows, to clearly defined mids and highs, this cabinet allows me to fully express the voice of all the instruments I use, which include 4, 5, and 8 string basses. Highly recommended for value, reliability, and features.

One mighty cabinet

I am constantly amazed at the sound that comes out of this cabinet! With the SVT610 HLF, Ampeg has proven that you no longer need 15 or 18 inch speakers to deliver the chest-thumping lows every bassist wants. I use the 450 watt B2RE head to power this cabinet and the lows cut through very fat and clear, with no mud. The horn really lets the slaps and pops penetrate. This thing sounds MUCH bigger than it is! With the built-in wheels, handrail and skidrails, Ampeg makes it easier to move this beast around. Simply the best enclosure I have ever owned. Displaces enough air to make your ears pop!

Simply The Best!

Believe me when I say you will NEVER need to upgrade your amp again once you purchase this baby. Perfect for any bassist looking to bring the power. I have even hooked this bad boy up to my room's stereo, and let me tell you, I've never heard such a booming "sub" in my life. I nearly blew my house up! Very reliable too...still has the same clean sound from the day I purchased it.

Tone and then some...

This was the final touch when crafting my bass rig. I am running an Ampeg B2-RE through this cab and it is everything I had hoped for. This cab is a proven workhorse. Everything the 8X10 is but just not as much bulk (i.e. more room in the van) Still as much punch as the 4x10 as well. I even think this is easier to haul than the 4x10 due to the height and use of leverage. You will not regret this cab once you hear/feel the tone. There is no other cab imho. Even if you pair it with another fine Ampeg head(Pro3-6,CL,etc.) This cab can handle it and then some.
