On May 1st, 2009, the Mackie, TAPCO, Crate, Blackheart and Ampeg websites will be updated with the addition of warranty URLs (e.g. www.mackie.com/warranty) expressing new A Stock warranty terms. These warranty URLs will go live on May 1st, 2009. Formerly, warranty periods for these LOUD brands appeared in a variety of locations – in product manuals (for Mackie and TAPCO) and on warranty cards and hang tags (for Crate, Blackheart and Ampeg). In order to streamline and clarify this process, Mackie, TAPCO, Crate, Blackheart and Ampeg warranty periods and terms will be communicated in full on the warranty pages.
Any LOUD products purchased prior to May 1st will bear with them the manufacturer’s warranty as predates the new policy. Moving through this transition, in order for customers to obtain warranty service, both the sales receipt and a physical copy of the (older) warranty statement will be required by our Service and Support departments in order to issue Service Requests, etc. If the product was purchased on or after May 1st, 2009, but a physical copy of the older warranty terms is not presented, the new warranty terms and periods will apply. Meanwhile, the products that bear with them the new warranty periods (as reflected in the box contents of each product) are being tracked by serial #, and contain new warranty content referring customers to the appropriate brand website.
The information below reflects the product warranty periods that will be effective on May 1st, 2009 for the Mackie, TAPCO, Crate, Blackheart and Ampeg brands:

I currently own four of these amplifiers and power 4 SVT-810E cabs. Soon to be adding additional cabs and AMPS to my rig.
This amp is a great device and does everything I ask of it, but I will warn you it vents the hot air out the side of the case. In the manual AMPEG suggests 3" to the side, this is not practical.
When I bought my first head I installed it in a SMB Roto case, great case but not for a 4PRO. The case only had about 3/8" clearance at the vents. The side warped right into the outlet vents and blocked them within a couple minutes of playing. I heard the fan go to high.
Guys who have a problem with these amps rack them too tightly. A big wood ATA rack will need additional fan cooling. Now my 20U rack has 1" clearance and I have dual rack mount fans blowing air into the bottom of the rack and vent it with another dual fan setup at the top.
I do not have issues.
Should AMPEG have designed it differently? Well thats not my call, but just know its a fantastic box if you take these cooling steps to heart.

Have had mine for 6 yrs now and I still love it. It has so many useful options as to how to connect your cabs but typically I just mono bridge to a 2x15 Bergantino setup. There's plenty of headroom with the 4pro and The EQ is great. I can always dial in a similar tone no matter which bass I'm using or what room I'm playing in. The direct out is quiet, useful, and has worked well for all the venues it's been used in. Two design shortcomings I've found with the 4 pro are that it has no ground lift switch and that the fan vents on the side and not the rear. Why in the world would you have them vent to the side? That being said, I haven't ever had an overheating issue in a standard SKB case. As far as reliability, I'm still on the fence. The preamp board on mine died after 1.5 yrs but it was repaired under warranty at no charge to me. Luckily there was a warranty repair center 4 miles from where I work. Would be much more of a pain if you're not in a major city I imagine. My teacher's 4 Pro also had the same preamp blowout issue at 2 yrs or so and his was also repaired under warranty. I am now having issues with the amp muting randomly. I believe the foot switch mute jack is to blame and will be getting it re-soldered or replaced. My teacher ended up selling his but even with the few issues I've had mine's been reasonably reliable based on number of gigs and playing hours its been used. I probably won't ever sell it.
Best of both worlds. Three 12AX7 tubes in your pre-amp section provide the legendary SVT classic growl. A MOSFET Power amp gives you 1200 watts rms continuous and 1600 watts peak. EQ lets you dial in whatever tone you want. Pre-sets come in handy from classic growl to modern tones. This is a very powerful, versitile amp that deserves to be plugged into a powerful speaker cab to reap the benefits of all its capabilities. This amp will last a lifetime, but you need to protect your investment. Get an SKB or similiar flight or rack case to protect the amp. You don't want this amp banging around in the back of your pick-up truck. It will require a 3 space or larger rack case. A larger case will provide better ventilation and keep your amp cool. Tube amps are susceptible to damage from moisture or extreme changes in temperature, going from hot to cold and vise versa. If it overheats, give it more air, a small fan works good. I gig all the time and this amp has not let me down. It has never overheated, and mine is inside a 6 space rack case (no external fan). I've taken this amp to the limit and it has never let me down. I've played around with every setting, wiring scenario, and just when I thought this amp was mega loud, I decided to disengage the limiter and tested it to the extreme limit. It performed like a champ and a fighter jet would seem quite next to this amp with the limiter off. Not recommended to turn off limiter, but I had to see for myself. 136+ decibles is nothing for this amp to achieve. Read the wiring diagram carefully. If you wire it wrong, ie. reversing pin 1+= "+", pin 2+= "-" polarity, or using the wrong speaker cab, etc., it may produce some unwanted problems and diminished sound quality. Easiest set-up is to mono-bridge this amp into an 800+ watt 8x10 speaker cab like the SVT 8x10, or two 4x10 in stereo mode using SPEAKON connectors. My amp came with a 3 foot SPEAKON connector wire that had a SPEAKON on one end and a 1/4 inch connector on the other end. The 10:1 built-in compressor is a mild compression. I recommend a dbx 160 rack or a digitech squeezer foot pedal for more comp. The pre-amp only has three tubes, the rest is solid state. For more growl I recommend the digitech distortion pedal. Enjoy your new amp and go knock down some walls.
