Bang for the Buck
The B2RE is an incredible head. The price is much lower than expected for something with this much power and of this quality. I run the head through an Ampeg SVT 4x10. The sound is amazing and it has more power than i'll ever need. If you are serious about bass sound, you need this head.

BASS IN YOUR FACE!!!
My very first bass amps were 2 Ampeg SVT heads and 2 SVT 8x10 cabs. Yeah I was 12 and didn't care about ruining my back for life, stupid me. I Always Loved Ampeg's Sound. Over the years and after Many Back Aches, I down sized to just 1 Full SVT Set Up. In the 70's I bought an Ampeg V6-B head and had an EV 2x15 cab with the Vented Midrange horn. I then switched to an SVT PreAmp with a QSC Power amp and an Ampeg 4x10 cab. Once again, it was Still Too Much to carry and I wanted something that would give me the same sound, but that weiged less and took up less room. I decided to get the B2R head and keep the 4x10 cab. I Was Very Impressed with the Sounds that I got from this Power House. The tone controls are Very Flexible and Very Accurate. The addition of the Graphic EQ opens up a Whole New World of Sounds and Harmonics. With it's built in effects loop and DI, I now had More felxability and Less to carry around. The B2R has Plenty of Power and Punch for Any Genre of Music!!! The Price is Very Affordable, and the Sounds are Unlimited. The built in Limiter works well for certain situations, and was also a nice feature. I am Very Happy with the Ampeg B2R and would Strongly Reccommend it to Any Bass Player that Wants Power, Punch, Flexability and a Great Sound for the price. Check it out, You Won't be disappointed. Ampeg, The Sound You Can't Mistake!!!

Ampeg by Name Only
I liked the Ampeg B2RE when I first got it, but it is definitely one of those pieces of equipment that you buy on the way to creating you perfect cabinet. For what you pay, you get one hell of a lot of power and features up the butt...but I eventually tired of having the lamest Ampeg head out there. The graphic equalizer isn't really solid: most of the sliders move with little effect on the sound. Also, when I got mine, I had to take it in right before a big show because the people of Ampeg (who are normally super-great) forgot to hook my fan-belt up. Other than those things, however, this is a great beginning head.

A good one
The SVT 450H is just the B-2RE in the "Classic Form". For less money, you can have the
B-2RE and still have the same sound. The only plus is that the 450H has a strong casing shell with handle bars" built around it and is not rackmountable. The B2-RE is rackmountable and has a strong steel outer shell. Both products have: excellent cooling systems, great tone shaping features, are very reliable, and will work for just about any Bassist. You can easily do slap, Jazz, Country, Metal, Rock, Pop, Blues, Punk, and whatever else your heart desires. Although the 450H and the B-2RE do not have the warm tone of tubes, they both have the thunderous Ampeg Low end! Along with that, the highs are crystal clear and the mids are growly. If you do not prefer the tube tone or if you need a reliable amp head check out the SVT 450H. If you love the tone of the 450H, but want to put the amp head in a rack mount, check out the B-2RE. If you want more wattage, check out the SVT 1000. The SVT 1000 has the same sound as the 450H and the B-2RE, just way more power. You really can't go wrong with any of these purchases.

NEW IMPORT AMPEG STILL ROCKS!
I've been playing a modified B2R for about the past decade. I'm very critical of tone and even chose this old head over the old B5R, which had more power, due to tonal qualities. After hearing that Ampeg was now made overseas, I heard the rumors that the quality had gone down. NOT SO!
I was at my local GC and plugged into one of these to try out a cabinet. The tone was great, so I assumed that I was plugged into an old USA model. To my surprise, it was a Chinese made one.
These amps are made to the same specs as the St.Louis made amps. They're just from overseas.
Do not be afraid to go for the killer Ampeg sound! Even if you get a lemon, it still has a warranty.
