  The American Recorder SPL-8810 Sound Pressure Level Meter serves its purpose in the simplest way. Just turn it on and watch the readings. It does exactly what it says on the face: Two bands range 70 dB each (compared to another model I researched that had seven 20dB ranges), A and C weighting, fast and slow time weighting, IEC 651 Type II. It also has backlighting, can monitor and/or hold the max reading, and is tripod mountable. As a power saving feature, the unit turns itself off after 10 minutes of inactivity. My primary use is measuring the volume of our praise band at church. It is also an interesting tool to use in general circumstances--for measuring loudness of ambient noise or household appliances.

• excellent low cost SPL meter

  I needed a simple SPL meter and the usual Radio Shack model was not in stock in their stores. This American Recorder was slightly more expensive but spec'ed well so I ordered it from GC. It has proven to be a better instrument and reads with a low end (in C weighting) that is more extended and linear than the old RS model. Very useful so far and I'm happy to recommend it as a great value.

  I bought the SPL-8810 Sound Pressure Level Meter and it works great, just by looking at the other competition online it has more features, and it's really easy to use, the backlight really helps in dark situations I would recommend this product to others.
