Artist dreadnoughts are powerful and rewarding. Great for strumming, flat-picking and lead work. This acoustic-electric version is fitted with the fantastic L.R. Baggs Element pickup and StagePro EQ for optimal live performance.

After 50 years of making guitars, continual improvement through the use of emerging technologies, processes, and materials is still at the heart of Alvarez's culture. Alvarez guitars are constructed correctly in every sense, from raw material preparation to construction and manufacturing processes. Their tonewoods are carefully cured; components such as neck blocks and wood joints are carefully designed. The painting, sanding and polishing techniques used are continually researched and developed, and the tone is impeccably crafted and married to a stable, consistent and lively sound box.

This caring approach to development comes from one simple goal: To deliver the best guitars in the market at every price point, instruments that are truly amazing value and offer a fantastic player experience. Alvarez believes the multi-award-winning Artist Series is one of the finest solid top guitar lines in the world today and demonstrates their commitment to design.

Artist Series
The term “solid top” refers to the soundboard of an acoustic guitar being made of solid wood, rather than being laminated. However, just because the top is solid, it does not necessarily mean the sound automatically benefits from this feature. The tone of the instrument only improves significantly when the whole guitar is built correctly to optimize the energy a solid soundboard can generate. The Artist Series is built to do exactly this.

Each model is designed to get the best out if its components, and for them to work together to produce balance, lively projection and great response. These components include Alvarez's FST2 bracing system, bi-level rosewood bridge, real bone nut and saddle, great quality tonewoods and thin finish.

FST2 is a forward-shifted X brace design which means the axis of the X is closer to the sound hole to create a larger soundboard area allowing for more energy and vibration to be harnessed. Both the X braces and asymmetric tone bars are carefully scalloped. The scalloping design was the result of years of continual development in their Yairi workshops. The Artist Series sound and personality is open and powerful. FST2 also creates very good balance so both the treble and bass registers are clearly present and balanced in relation to each other.

Artist Series feel right and are exciting to play; no matter if you are strumming hard or picking lightly, the guitar will do what you ask of it. For a more focused sound with fewer overtones, choose a mahogany top. For power, go for Sitka. For warmth and response to a lighter touch, choose a cedar top. All of Alvarez's tops are selected by their team and graded independently of their suppliers. If it isn't deemed worthy, they won’t use it. Top quality improves as you move up the Artist Series models but all are stiff and finely grained.

Along with a more angled headstock, the Alvarez bi-level bridge increases string tension by making the break angle of the strings from the saddle to the top more acute. Improved string tension adds to the sound, feel and response, which are also heightened by the use of real bone nuts and saddles.

Artist Series also demonstrates their great finishing capabilities; the gloss models have a clear deep shine from a finish that is applied as thinly as possible, again to help optimize tone.

Comments about Alvarez Artist Series AD60CE Dreadnought Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

This guitar is high in playability and sound for it's price. It sounds great plugged in and the on-board tuner is a nice add-on. I have been playing guitar for 15 years and would prefer a guitar in the upper echelon but can't afford it and I am happy with this guitar. It has a tiny bit of fret buzz, but it still sounds great. Excellent choice for anyone looking for a great sounding guitar in the mid-range price.

Comments about Alvarez Artist Series AD60CE Dreadnought Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

Purchased to spare my $$$ guitars from risky travel and locations while providing great sound. The sunburst is much nicer than the picture in the ad. Construction is very nice, and the neck size and shape are just what I needed. I not yet used the electronics to play, but initial testing suggests the Sys550 system will work fine for my needs. This is my second Alvarez used as a 'beater' and am quite satisfied with my selection.

Comments about Alvarez Artist Series AD60CE Dreadnought Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

A great sounding guitar when used with the D'Addario EXP16 strings. There light gauge starts at.12. I think it is harder to fret than my other guitars. I switched to lighter gauge strings and sound was bad.

          Couldn't ask for better!

          By Michael Cottrell

          from Louisville, Ky

Comments about Alvarez Artist Series AD60CE Dreadnought Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I'm more of a metal style guitarist whose not usually big about acoustics but this guitar is just amazing. I've played some pretty nice sounding acoustic guitars before but this one is amazing. It's really durable, yet still light as a feather. It has beautiful pick ups and sounds to it. The strings are set a little further away from the bridge and neck so your chords and mutes are much cleaner but close enough it doesn't turn your fingers into a callous monster. It's the perfect acoustic guitar. Defenitely worth the money.

          Beautiful Sound and Tremendous Value

          By Greg Gordon

          from Dallas, TX

Comments about Alvarez Artist Series AD60CE Dreadnought Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I have been playing this particular guitar for four months and absolutely love it. The tone is pure with articulate lows and mids, playing either loud or soft. It is good for both strumming and fingerstyle as the action is somewhere in the middle, and in my opinion just right. I would highly recommend this guitar to anyone looking for a quality dreadnought in the sub $1,000 range. I debated the Taylor 214ce versus the Alvarez for months, and I have no regrets for choosing the Alvarez.
