Artist Series classical guitars are beautifully made using a traditional Spanish heel construction. Their thoughtful bracing helps deliver sustain, balance and volume. This Hybrid version AC65HCE is a classical guitar with a narrower nut (48mm) and therefore thinner neck. The fingerboard is also arched with a radius similar to that of steel string guitars. So really, it's a nylon string guitar that sounds like a classical but plays like steel string. It's also fitted with the wonderful SYS550 EQ and pickup.

The Alvarez Artist Series AC65HCE Classical Hybrid Acoustic-Electric Guitar is a member of the Alvarez Artist '60 Series. Alvarez was careful to get the construction just right to allow this series to sing, and deliver a player experience that's exceptional for a mid price instrument.

The term "solid top" of course refers to the soundboard of an acoustic guitar being made of solid wood, rather than being laminated. However, just because the top is solid, it doesn't necessarily mean the sound automatically benefits from this feature. The tone of the instrument only improves significantly when the whole guitar is built correctly to really release the energy a solid soundboard can generate. The Artist Series is built to do exactly this.

Each model is designed to get the best out if its components, and for them to work together to produce a tone and player experience, rarely found in affordable instruments.

The sound is warm, open and powerful, and both the treble and bass registers are clearly present and balanced in relation to each other. These guitars feel right and are exciting to play and responsive.

The solid 'A' grade cedar tops are hand selected from quarter-sawn wood. This ensures consistent quality, and its no secret better guitars are made from better wood. These tops not only look great but they are stiff and strong and finely grained. This allows them to be cut just that tiny bit thinner, which lets them dance a little more and produce a lot more vibration, and ultimately a richer tone.

All of the components are made of natural materials such as mother of pearl and abalone inlays, real bone saddles and nuts and rosewood appointments.

SYS550 dual pickup
The SYS550 designed by B-BAND is a pro-level EQ and pickup that reproduces the sound of the guitar very closely with great clarity. B-BAND use a patented under saddle electret film pick up which eliminates synthetic or processed sounds often heard with piezo or other styles of pickup. The result is a very true, acoustic sound. SYS550 also has an accurate, backlit chromatic digital tuner.

Comments about Alvarez Artist Series AC65HCE Classical Hybrid Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I'll keep this one! After a year, it needed help with the low E string at the pickup. One call to St Louis Music (distributor) and parts were on the way. GC needs to become an authorized repair... they don't know why they are not.

I switch between my Silver Anniversary Jazz Fushion Alvarez (wide neck) and this ... nice combo. Cant wait for replacement Piezo to get the low end... it'll crank then!
I use this with a stereo acoustic processor, nice blend with my wife's keyboard in stereo. We play every weekend. So having a stage model was important to me.

Comments about Alvarez Artist Series AC65HCE Classical Hybrid Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

After a hiatus of 35+ years, I decided on this guitar to get back into playing. I have had it for about 8 months and use a Behringer Ultracoustic amplifier. The longer slimmer neck make it easy to play. I can hammer, pull off and bend the strings with ease. It has good tone and electronics with tuner, pick up and EQ. It stays in tune. But the best thing of all, is I am having fun with it.It was discounted by 33% and I used a groupon for further price reduction.

Comments about Alvarez Artist Series AC65HCE Classical Hybrid Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I paid 46% of the listed price. It has a tuner, EQ and pickup. It has good tone. The action was no problem. No buzzing sounds. The neck is narrower and longer giving it that regular guitar feel to it. This is a great beginners guitar for the price. You can pick modern ballads, classical favorites or possibly flamenco.

    Well made guitar

    By Larry

    from Eugene OR

Comments about Alvarez Artist Series AC65HCE Classical Hybrid Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I bought this to replace an older "standard" classical. Was looking to try a smaller neck and better action. Also wanted electric for direct plug in recording. I am not disappointed. The guitar is well made and is very easy to play. Beautiful finish and design. Pro music friends and local luthier impressed with the design, ease of play and sound quality.

An incredible guitar for the price!

    By Stephen D Patch

    from Columbus, OH

Comments about Alvarez Artist Series AC65HCE Classical Hybrid Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I have owned this guitar for over a year now so this is not another "wow, just bought this but really haven't checked it out" review. I wanted a fusion style nylon-string classical that had built-in electronics for amplification but did not want to spend much money. A couple of web demos of this guitar caught my interest. I knew it was made in China and wanted to see how their quality stood up in an inexpensive guitar. Plus, GC had a great sale that allowed me to have this delivered for a very low cost. The result? Outstanding! The guitar compares to others which cost much more. The build quality in the one I have is flawless. A great cedar top that allows good acoustic sound so I can practice on it unplugged and really enjoy it. The laminated mahogany back & sides give the guitar substance and are beautifully finished. The neck, fingerboard and tuners are equally well built. The rosette and dark wood bindings give a great, under-stated, traditional look to the guitar. The balance between bass and treble strings is excellent and intonation quite good. My guitar arrived with a high action and I expected that. At this price, so should you. The fingerboard and frets were well finished and very playable. So, I took it to a good tech and had the saddle lowered and rounded to more closely conform to the radiused fingerboard and now it plays like a dream. You can get that done for $25.00 to $50.00 or so and it's money well spent. Many players will be able to do it themselves. The B-Band electronics package is excellent too. I have played it through both an Ibanez Troubadour acoustic amp and a Fender digital solid-state amp and the sound is quite good and very adjustable. This is where this guitar really shines. It's made to be amplified. The under-saddle pickup and the microphone in the electronics allow a nice variation of tone quality, everything from a full traditional classical sound to amplified metal, with a very nice jazz tonality available too. Dial in a little reverb and chorus and this thing sounds like a million bucks! Played absolutely cleanly through the acoustic amp gives a very smooth tone too. The main thing is that one can adjust to get the tone that you want, whatever that may be. Played through a DSP this guitar is pure fun. Do my more expensive classical guitars have better acoustic volume and tone. Sure, but they should. They cost a ton more. But, when the Alvarez is plugged in, it sounds fantastic. In short, this guitar represents a great value for the money. Is there a cheaper electric classical out there that plays and sounds as good? There may be but I'm done looking. This one's a keeper.
