Alvarez has been making the YB1 Alvarez-Yairi Baritone for years and its popularity has remained strong. Enter the Artist Series ABT60 Baritone Guitar, an affordable baritone guitar that will blow you away. The ABT60 is a member of the Alvarez Artist '60 Series. Alvarez was careful to get the construction just right to allow this series to sing, and deliver a player experience that's exceptional for a mid price instrument.

The term "solid top" of course refers to the soundboard of an acoustic guitar being made of solid wood, rather than being laminated. However, just because the top is solid, it doesn't necessarily mean the sound automatically benefits from this feature. The tone of the instrument only improves significantly when the whole guitar is built correctly to really release the energy a solid soundboard can generate. The Artist Series is built to do exactly this.

Each model is designed to get the best out if its components, and for them to work together to produce a tone and player experience, rarely found in affordable instruments.

The sound is warm, open and powerful, and both the treble and bass registers are clearly present and balanced in relation to each other. These guitars feel right and are exciting to play and responsive.

The solid ˜A' grade Sitka spruce tops are hand selected from quarter-sawn wood. This ensures consistent quality, and its no secret better guitars are made from better wood. These tops not only look great but they are stiff and strong and finely grained. This allows them to be cut just that tiny bit thinner, which lets them dance a little more and produce a lot more vibration, and ultimately a richer tone.

All of the components are made of natural materials such as mother of pearl and abalone inlays, real bone saddles and nuts and rosewood appointments.

Excellent Instrument for an Excellent Price

By Chad Zarn

from Culpeper, VA

Comments about Alvarez Artist Series ABT60 Baritone Guitar:

I've been playing guitar for over 30 years. In those years I've collected and played a lot of big name acoustics and I must say that the ABT60 holds its own and then some. You'll be hard pressed to find a guitar that sounds and plays as well as the ABT60 for under $1,500. I've had it for over a week and I can't put it down. The possibilities are endless with this guitar. Alvarez is on to something with this guitar. I wish all of the manufacturers would take some notes from Alvarez and realize that they don't have to charge $2,000+ for a great sounding and playing guitar. Buy one now! You'll love it!

Fantastic Value

By David La Fountain

from Bridgeport, Texas

Comments about Alvarez Artist Series ABT60 Baritone Guitar:

Wow I am blown away by this Baritone for the money. Looks, fit, finish, are all A+++ And the sound is like nothing you have ever heard before. For those of you who would like to experiment with a Baritone there is no better value. I still can't believe they can build this instrument for this kind of a price. I am pretty tight with a buck but this thing is so good that I am buying another for a friend. Enjoy the music while you can, Dave

today I fell in love with this guitar

from Thorofare, NJ

Comments about Alvarez Artist Series ABT60 Baritone Guitar:

well it was a ten week wait for this Baritone to come in. I guess a lot of people are looking for some thing a little different too. I was kinda apprehensive about ordering, not having played this model, nobody had one to try out, the only other baritone to try was the Taylor eight string and that was a religious experience goosebumps! at at the price it should be. finally got my Alvarez ABT60 after very careful inspection very impressed with workmanship, fit and finish excellent! it is a big guitar but very light for its size a little neck heavy but very cool. set up was good right out of the box tuned it up b to b sounded good, new stings making a lot of noise but it played well, liked it two weeks later after acclimation,I adjusted truss 1/8th turn for a little relief, strings broken in, the guitar is coming in nicely and am now playing in A to A and it sounds great. it is not the Taylor 8 at all, it has its own sound very deep and full, and as my technique improves It will only get better. Liked it, now love it .

Fantastic Value With Nice Appointments

By Dennis Miller

from Miami, Florida

Comments about Alvarez Artist Series ABT60 Baritone Guitar:

Ever since I played a Taylor baritone at a Taylor Road Show, I felt like I wanted one. Price being an issue, I was interested to try this guitar when someone pointed it out to me. (About 1/8th the price of the Taylor) The tone is like a cello, a very rich and different sound from a guitar. I tuned mine B-B and might go C-C to add some ability to strum it a bit more without the bass strings rattling. (I get really aggressive when I strum) Fingerstyle is a very different experience, giving a totally new sound to old songs I've always played. After stretching the strings a bit, it's held tune very well overnight and through a couple hours of playing this morning. Some appointments provide a little pride of ownership. There are 2 rings that make up the rosette, one of abalone and the other a wood inlay. The bridge pins are actually ebony. The nut and saddle are bone. In general, workmanship is excellent with no dye bleed from the back or sides into the plastic binding. Inside the guitar it's clean with no glue smears I can see. In short, I'm very impressed with what I got for the money and very happy with my new guitar. I'm going to record it this afternoon to see if it requires any special techniques. Alvarez hit one out of the park with this guitar.

Good Value for the Money

from Michigan

Comments about Alvarez Artist Series ABT60 Baritone Guitar:

I was pleasantly surprised by this model. My main instrument is a Gibson J-200 so a large body guitar is normal to me so no issues there. The strings are much larger gauge but not cumbersome. The clarity of most of the stings is nice (the low B will rattle if you ?dig? into it), but you may have to adjust your strum slightly. I play in a praise band and the response to this being added (we had another guitar and a bass player) was fantastic from the congregation. The guitar stayed in tune for two hour sessions after the initial ?break in? of the strings. Because of the larger strings, the nut height is larger than normal so you will need a strong Capo for the first fret if you use one, the rest of the frets seemed ok with a normal Capo, but the first fret can be a bear for tuning. It has a much better sound than the price tag would suggest.
